Are there any books dedicated to the construction/design of Hermes good? I love reading about and looking at the process of something coming together and find the detail and adherence to quality fascinating.

some of the volumes of La Maison show detailed photographs of the artisans at work; volume two shows a saddle and volume three is devoted to the Kelly; there is virtually no text and they are not step by step photographs but they do show the level of skill employed

So this isn't a book about Hermes specifically, but there is a book called "The Primates of Park Ave" and there is a whole chapter about the Birkin in it. It is a fantastic read and one of my favorite books about the high life in the Upper East Side of NYC.

Also have this book on scarves. Almost everybody here already knows it, but was surprised it’s not on this thread, so wanted to include it. It’s from 2009 (but has been reprinted several times, incl 2017).

Always attentive to collectors and art lovers in general, Geneviève Fontan conducted a study that will provide the reader, a better understanding of the techniques and practices of manufacturing Hermès bags and luggage. In this illustrated book, she gives appropriate vocabulary, so as to to describe each part of a bag and the codes that allow find out the vintage of the bag or the species of the crocodilian. The marks and signatures are reproduced and commented. Materials and manufacturing techniques are explained with pictures to discern Hermès finishes, used in manufacturing. Tips for maintenance and repairing a bag will help prevent mistakes. An illustrated list of different leathers and their characteristics will provide the elements in order to identify the many varieties of leather. She conducted a study of the forms as for the classification of bags and therefore gives the essential elements relating to the legislation on species protected under the Washington Convention. With the help of all the information that the reader will find in this book, he himself will be able to recognize a genuine made bag, in the workshops of Hermès.

The reader will discover the various ranges of the model in this book, its year by year history, in order to ensure accuracy, through the quoting of its sources. Interspersed with anecdotes and unpublished information, this richly illustrated book can be easily read and is a great pleasure. This should not only interest professionals and collectors, but also a wide audience who is eager to learn about the creations of the Hermès heritage.

There is also a little series of illustrated books by Hermes, can't remember all their titles now. Anyone else has them?

My Geneviève Fontan Hermes books arrived this morning and are superb.
I have only just had a chance to flick through them, but they appear to be full of the kind of background information you would expect from the titles and publishers descriptions.
They are both fully illustrated with many colour photographs.
I am pleased to have bought both.
They do make a good reference source.

The English translation is not of the highest order.

Thank you for this :hugs:, going to order both of them immediately!

And I hear you on the English translation, Carrés d’art is the same.
