I used the eBay guides as well. One thing that didn't seem right on the purse was the printed logo. I can't read "Coach" very well, but I can see the "authenticity" code and it doesn't make sense to me, but now that I've re-read it, it's sounding more realistic. I'll post what is stamped, but WHAT is that circle that looks like a copyright at the top right hand side of the stamp? That is never addressed. I've seen it on a lot of Coach purses. The REAL Coach bags NEVER have that on it and mine has it on it. Regarding the key tag, it's embossed with the Coach name on one side and is very shiny and on the other side it's plain suede. I thought it would be embossed with the Coach name as well. I don't know that much about the key chains. Anyway, here is what the authenticity print reads on the inside of the purse: THIS IS A COACH BAG. IT WAS HANDCRAFTED IN THE UNITED STATES OF COMPLETELY NATURAL GLOVE-TANNED COWHIDE. THE VARIATIONS IN THE GRAIN ARE CHARACTERISTIC OF NATUAL FULL GRAIN LEATHER." As I said, IT'S SOUNDING MORE REALISTIC NOW, But the letter "H" looks larger than the rest of the letters and numbers. I thought they were supposed to be perfectly even. Again, WHAT IS THAT DOUBLE CIRCLE AT THE TOP OF THE AUTHENTICITY stamp. Can anyone help with that? With someone here claiming I may have a fake satchel... I did do a lot of research on that satchel and there were a ton of fake satchels for sale. I waited and waited for this one to appear and it was one in about 100 and there was only another just like it for sale in 2004 and that was it, not another one since, except this one. Some looked better, but they weren't real. Now, I hope this bag, my SoHo, is real. I think Hyacinth posted photos for me to identify my new old purse. I vaguely remember seeing the SoHo in the department stores ages ago. I liked them back then and I still liked them now. They are wonderful and I'm happy to have one, real or faux. I'm happy. Thanks for helping me. I appreciate it. Now I have a name to put with my lovely bag. SoHo, oh SoHo cool! Two questions, what is the circle stamp on my SoHo and is my Coach key tag the real deal? Thanks for your help.
There are a TON of details that aren't in the Salearea Guides. Coach has a history of over 50 years of making handbags and there's no forum or guide in the world big enough to handle every piece of information on every bag ever made or every detail Coach has used, because details change constantly. That's why there are forums for buyers to come to and ask questions. EVERY SINGLE AUTHENTICATION IS BASED SOLELY ON WHAT WE SEE IN OR ON EACH INDIVIDUAL BAG. There's no "One Rule Fits All" with Coach, with 2 exceptions, and NO one or two things that can ever prove a bag is genuine. That includes any and all stampings, tags, zippers, hardware, receipts, or anything else you can find on or inside a bag or other accessory. ANYTHING A MAKER CAN MAKE, A FAKER CAN FAKE. There are NO authenticity stamps, numbers, papers, cards, or anything else. The bag itself and its details are the only proofs of authenticity.
There are also a lot of details that aren't in the Salearea Guides or anywhere else except our own heads, both to prevent counterfeits makers from using that info to make more accurate fakes, and to prevent crooked sellers from hiding those red flags when they post pictures of fakes they're selling.
We don't expect anyone to try and identify or authenticate their own bag or other items. That's why there's an Authenticate This Coach thread - actually about six threads, since older ones have been archived - and another thread at the main Coach forum strictly for identification. We've probably identified several thousand Coach bags and accesories, and authenticated several thousand more, all at no charge and little effort by the poster asking the question other than some photos and measurements..
We also often include names, approximate ages, and whatever other information we can, IF we have that info available and IF we have time to include it. What's being given out here - at NO cost to our users - is information that most Coach newbies probably would take days or weeks to find for themselves and even then might not be accurate. All you have to do is ask, and supply the information, photos and measurements we need for as accurate an authentication or ID as we can make it.
Unlike some of the other "designer" forums here, we don't have restrictive rules about what can and can't be authenticated. If you read the first post in the Authentication threads for each major brand you'll see what I mean. We authenticate for pretty much anyone as long as they follow the rules in post number One, unless for some reason they've given us reason not to trust them, or have bitten the hand that feeds them, so to speak.
We've also PROVED our abilities and experience over the last 5 or 10 years, and expect our members and posters to remember that. If sometimes we're short-tempered - sorry, I should say " if
I'M short-tempered" since I'm the designated Forum Crabby-Arse - we have other responsibilities in our lives and things going on that may affect our responses. Speaking just for myself, I'm old and I'm sometimes beetchy - I figure the one partly justifies the other. That doesn't mean I don't know what I'm talking about. Just drop a 14-ounce medium-rare ribeye steak on the floor of my cage and wait until I've finished it before asking your question, and you won't have any cause for complaint.
Keep one important fact in mind - we donate our own time, and spend a large chunk of our own money, TO KEEP BUYERS FROM GETTING RIPPED OFF. Eveything posted here is a means to that end. We HATE crooks and anyone who knowingly makes or sells counterfeit items is a crook. We also love Coach products, MOST of them anyway, and want everyone else to enjoy them too.
