Why is everyone attacking me? Aren't we supposed to help each other and not attack each other? I don't get it.[/COLOR]
May I ask what you're perceiving as an "attack?" All we said is that the bag is authentic and that we hoped you didn't accuse the seller of selling a fake when you weren't sure.

Yes, we do help each other here. otherwise you wouldn't be getting free authentications, free advice, free further info with item names and care, etc.

But you'll also be called on misinformation when it's posted.

There's one bad bit of information you can get from reading rubbish guides, because no one calls it an "authenticity code" except some clueless guide writers. A stamp or a few numbers can never prove anything's authentic. There's nothing wrong with either part of the stamp FOR THAT STYLE, MONTH, YEAR AND PRODUCTION PLANT. You can never compare one stamp with another unless all those details are the same between both bags.

Are you reading the very early posts in this thread? That could be one of the problems. Some of the early info posted here is almost 10 years old and either out of date or was wrong when it was posted. The Salearea Guides posted at Ebay are the best source of accurate information, you can find them at the following link. And no one's attacking you, we're trying to keep you from making mistakes. It's called Tough Love and we want to make sure you use the right information and sources if you're going to try and figure out if something's fake or not, before you think a genuine bag is actually fake and return it to the seller or throw it in the trash.

Start here:

SALEAREA GUIDES
http://search.reviews.ebay.com/members/salearea_W0QQcpnameZmembersQQprZsaleareaQQuqtZg

There are six of them and the information in them is correct except for a recent change Coach made regarding creed patches and serial numbers. If you have any questions, ask.

And you should still post photos of the second bag you bought so at least you'll know either way.

I used the eBay guides as well. One thing that didn't seem right on the purse was the printed logo. I can't read "Coach" very well, but I can see the "authenticity" code and it doesn't make sense to me, but now that I've re-read it, it's sounding more realistic. I'll post what is stamped, but WHAT is that circle that looks like a copyright at the top right hand side of the stamp? That is never addressed. I've seen it on a lot of Coach purses. The REAL Coach bags NEVER have that on it and mine has it on it. Regarding the key tag, it's embossed with the Coach name on one side and is very shiny and on the other side it's plain suede. I thought it would be embossed with the Coach name as well. I don't know that much about the key chains. Anyway, here is what the authenticity print reads on the inside of the purse: THIS IS A COACH BAG. IT WAS HANDCRAFTED IN THE UNITED STATES OF COMPLETELY NATURAL GLOVE-TANNED COWHIDE. THE VARIATIONS IN THE GRAIN ARE CHARACTERISTIC OF NATUAL FULL GRAIN LEATHER." As I said, IT'S SOUNDING MORE REALISTIC NOW, But the letter "H" looks larger than the rest of the letters and numbers. I thought they were supposed to be perfectly even. Again, WHAT IS THAT DOUBLE CIRCLE AT THE TOP OF THE AUTHENTICITY stamp. Can anyone help with that? With someone here claiming I may have a fake satchel... I did do a lot of research on that satchel and there were a ton of fake satchels for sale. I waited and waited for this one to appear and it was one in about 100 and there was only another just like it for sale in 2004 and that was it, not another one since, except this one. Some looked better, but they weren't real. Now, I hope this bag, my SoHo, is real. I think Hyacinth posted photos for me to identify my new old purse. I vaguely remember seeing the SoHo in the department stores ages ago. I liked them back then and I still liked them now. They are wonderful and I'm happy to have one, real or faux. I'm happy. Thanks for helping me. I appreciate it. Now I have a name to put with my lovely bag. SoHo, oh SoHo cool! Two questions, what is the circle stamp on my SoHo and is my Coach key tag the real deal? Thanks for your help.

With Coach, there's no such thing as an authenticity code. Coach has a creed with a serial number but so do 99.9% of fakes. Having a creed and/or serial number does not mean a bag is authentic.

I'll post what is stamped, but WHAT is that circle that looks like a copyright at the top right hand side of the stamp?

That is never addressed. I've seen it on a lot of Coach purses. The REAL Coach bags NEVER have that on it and mine has it on it.
The stamp is an outlet bullet and in authentic bags, indicates that a bag made for full priced stores was sent to and sold at a Coach outlet. (A bag with a bullet isn't automatically assumed to be authentic. There have been fakes with bullets.) BTW, it HAS been address and many "REAL" Coach bags have it. Just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Regarding the key tag, it's embossed with the Coach name on one side and is very shiny and on the other side it's plain suede. I thought it would be embossed with the Coach name as well. I don't know that much about the key chains.
The hangtag that came with the bag was originally 2 pieces of leather that were glued together. They often separated and it sounds like one of the pieces is no longer there.

Again, read our previous responses. Your creed and serial number stamping and text are correct for THAT bag. It's NOT called and "authenticity stamp" and never was!

Again, WHAT IS THAT DOUBLE CIRCLE AT THE TOP OF THE AUTHENTICITY stamp. Can anyone help with that?
Read my response a couple of paragraphs up from this one. And again,
It's NOT called and "authenticity stamp" and never was!

With someone here claiming I may have a fake satchel... I did do a lot of research on that satchel and there were a ton of fake satchels for sale.
No one said you had a fake satchel because no one has seen pictures. I know I recommended having it looked at because you appear to have done a "lot of research" on this Soho bag and wherever you researched didn't give you good information.

Why are you saying that? Both Hyacinth and I told you it's authentic and Hyacinth posted the catalog picture of it.

I vaguely remember seeing the SoHo in the department stores ages ago. I liked them back then and I still liked them now. They are wonderful and I'm happy to have one, real or faux. I'm happy. Yikes! I don't know what ebay guides you're reading but many are filled with outdated information, incomplete info and some just plain wrong info.

I'll respond IN RED to your post within your comments.

PLEASE READ THE SALEAREA GUIDES because you still aren't "getting" it!

There are a TON of details that aren't in the Salearea Guides. Coach has a history of over 50 years of making handbags and there's no forum or guide in the world big enough to handle every piece of information on every bag ever made or every detail Coach has used, because details change constantly. That's why there are forums for buyers to come to and ask questions. EVERY SINGLE AUTHENTICATION IS BASED SOLELY ON WHAT WE SEE IN OR ON EACH INDIVIDUAL BAG. There's no "One Rule Fits All" with Coach, with 2 exceptions, and NO one or two things that can ever prove a bag is genuine. That includes any and all stampings, tags, zippers, hardware, receipts, or anything else you can find on or inside a bag or other accessory. ANYTHING A MAKER CAN MAKE, A FAKER CAN FAKE. There are NO authenticity stamps, numbers, papers, cards, or anything else. The bag itself and its details are the only proofs of authenticity.

There are also a lot of details that aren't in the Salearea Guides or anywhere else except our own heads, both to prevent counterfeits makers from using that info to make more accurate fakes, and to prevent crooked sellers from hiding those red flags when they post pictures of fakes they're selling.

We don't expect anyone to try and identify or authenticate their own bag or other items. That's why there's an Authenticate This Coach thread - actually about six threads, since older ones have been archived - and another thread at the main Coach forum strictly for identification. We've probably identified several thousand Coach bags and accesories, and authenticated several thousand more, all at no charge and little effort by the poster asking the question other than some photos and measurements..

We also often include names, approximate ages, and whatever other information we can, IF we have that info available and IF we have time to include it. What's being given out here - at NO cost to our users - is information that most Coach newbies probably would take days or weeks to find for themselves and even then might not be accurate. All you have to do is ask, and supply the information, photos and measurements we need for as accurate an authentication or ID as we can make it.

Unlike some of the other "designer" forums here, we don't have restrictive rules about what can and can't be authenticated. If you read the first post in the Authentication threads for each major brand you'll see what I mean. We authenticate for pretty much anyone as long as they follow the rules in post number One, unless for some reason they've given us reason not to trust them, or have bitten the hand that feeds them, so to speak.

We've also PROVED our abilities and experience over the last 5 or 10 years, and expect our members and posters to remember that. If sometimes we're short-tempered - sorry, I should say " if I'M short-tempered" since I'm the designated Forum Crabby-Arse - we have other responsibilities in our lives and things going on that may affect our responses. Speaking just for myself, I'm old and I'm sometimes beetchy - I figure the one partly justifies the other. That doesn't mean I don't know what I'm talking about. Just drop a 14-ounce medium-rare ribeye steak on the floor of my cage and wait until I've finished it before asking your question, and you won't have any cause for complaint.

Keep one important fact in mind - we donate our own time, and spend a large chunk of our own money, TO KEEP BUYERS FROM GETTING RIPPED OFF. Eveything posted here is a means to that end. We HATE crooks and anyone who knowingly makes or sells counterfeit items is a crook. We also love Coach products, MOST of them anyway, and want everyone else to enjoy them too.

I appreciate your time and effort, but there has to be enjoyment in this too or why bother? Yes? I come here because I love it, love purses and I enjoy hearing what my fellow purse lovers have to say about what they like and don't like and what is genuine and what isn't, plus I enjoy learning as well.

Praise the heavens there are people like the members at Purse Forum who DO care and are helpful and can teach me what to look for to save me from purchasing fake purses and getting ripped off in a BAD way.

Thank you so much for your time, everyone, and I mean that sincerely. I'm human and I make mistakes and I will continue to make mistakes and if I stepped on any toes, I apologize. I'm still not sure if I made a mistake purchasing the SoHo, but for eye candy, I'm very happy and as I mentioned previously I learned that the bag I purchased has a name and that's thanks to a member of the PurseForum :D

I hope you'll post about the other bag you're wondering about too. Better to know you have a fake than to keep wondering and have the doubts destroy any enjoyment you might have had in owning and using the bag. In the future, always ask before buying or bidding if possible.

To reinforce what you've already been told, the Soho is genuine. Buying it was ONLY a mistake if you decide that you don't like the bag. At least since you know it's genuine, you always have the option of selling it if it doesn't work for you.

REALLY? IT'S REAL? THANK YOU! I DID GOOD THEN, by mistake, but I did good!

Would you happen to know about the key chain? I'd hate to spoil the utterly beautiful SoHo with a fake keychain, HARK, THE HUMANITY! Now I'll take better care of my beautiful SoHo!

You made me SO INCREDIBLY HAPPY! THANK YOU, HYACINTH! By the way, I love the show, own the set of DVDS! She is so funny! Her BIL (Otto?) is hilarious! Her set of Royal Dolton (SP) and her neighbor, that show was incredible!

BUT, back to business, I did inquire about a Dolce & Gabbana bag. That question is on another board.

Oh, my SoHo isn't going anywhere! I haven't had a chance to take her out yet. It's been so messy outside with the yucky weather. I'm using a Target baby diaper bag, only I didn't realize I bought a diaper bag! Duh?

Thank you so very much again! Perhaps 2016 is shaping up to be a better year for me than the past few which sucked big time.

I'll post more photos and ask more questions before the fact. Sometimes transactions happen so quickly there isn't time for questions, but I'll try my best and when in doubt, don't do it unless you can afford it :graucho:

The Soho is absolutely authentic. Didn't you understand that from the first posts of Hyacinth and BeenBurned?

The hangtag (what you are calling the keychain) is most likely authentic as well. It's hard to tell since they would be very easy for counterfeiters to copy.

In the future, when you ask for authentications, it helps if you post the name of the ebay seller. We often will know if the seller is someone we trust to only sell authentic, or if the seller has ever listed fakes in the past.

So you understand something about how the Coach forums work - no one is allowed to authenticate unless the experts here are sure they're qualified to do so. The regular authenticators for Coach are BeenBurned, Whateve, Noshoepolish and me. We're all buyers, collectors, and in everyone's case but me, sellers of Coach and a few other brands. A few of us were authenticating back at Ebay's old Shoes and Purses Forum more than 10 years ago until that forum self-destructed.

We all have different specialties, for instance I specialize in older styles, mostly before 2010 but newer than the mid-1980s. Whateve is our "everything" lady, she knows true vintage all the way back to Bonnie Cashin but also knows a lot about new styles. BeenBurned knows quite a bit about classic and vintage (1980s to around 2000) but tends to leave authentications of older pre-China bags to me or Whateve, and she knows everything there is to know about newer styles and most accessories including shoes and scarves. Noshoepolish stops by when an opinion is needed on business items like briefcases and also travel bags. In an emergency any one of us can give an educated opinion on something that's not one of our specialties but it may take longer because a bit more research is involved

We have all worked together a long time and trust each other's judgement implicitly. If someone actually does make a mistake, the others will catch it and post a correction, but mistakes are extremely rare. We also can't be faulted if a seller posts doctored or even stolen photos in their listing or if critical details are missing, although BeenBurned is better than Sherlock Holmes at spotting stolen photos. We always recommend that posters wait to hear from one of these members before accepting any authentications posted here, just to be sure some new poster hasn't decided to voice an opinion that may not be correct. When one of the regulars says something looks ok, it's ok. You don't need to wait for more opinions unless the authenticator says so.
If we can't be 100 percent sure about an item, we'll say so, or we'll ask for more opinions from the other authenticators. Some things just are almost impossible to authenticate, especially things like wallets and new styles that no longer have easily-visible stamped serial numbers.

Keep in mind that authentications here are educated opinions. We can't always be right, but I absolutely guarantee that we're more accurate than ANYONE working at a Coach store, and more than at least 90 percent of the "professional" authentication services. If any one of our Coach authenticators says that something's genuine, there's about a 99.5 percent chance that we're right.

If it sounds like we're proud of what we do - we are. We've saved a lot of members a TON of their hard-earned money by warning them about fake Coach items and shady sellers. All of us have gotten stuck with a fake at one time or another, and it's not a pleasant feeling.

Remember, use the Authenticate This Coach thread for requests, and follow the format set out in post # One of that thread.

Thank you for explaining to me how everything works at PurseForum. It's quite complicated and a true business.

Hi everyone!! I haven't been on in a couple of years. My collection and rehab projects have been idle ever since. Anyway, I found this little number at the thrift store. Wondering about authenticity and what style name is

Please use the Authenticate This Coach thread for all authenticvations. This one is meant to be a reference thread only. And read the first post in that thread to see the information we need for authentications.

Yours is genuine.

hi,

I've got a I believe HOBO style bag
serial number UOK-558...

would this be authentic?

everything seems to check out when looking at it...
