Just a question, please.

There was recently a brief discussion on one of the eBay boards about Coach styles 9960 and 9791. There was a photo posted of both styles from Coach's Fall 1998 Preview catalog.

Was 1998 the year that these styles were actually introduced? I have seen so many earlier dates for these bags, and I'm really more curious than anything else.

Thanks so much for any input!

9960 is on the wayback machine for June 1997, so an intro date of 1998 is incorrect. Sorry, I don't know when they were introduced but I think I've seen them older than that.

Take a good look at the photo. ONLY the 9791 is shown as "New". The regular Daypack was introduced years earlier. The first catalog I have that shows it is Spring 1995

I have a COACH purse that I need to have authenicated. I received it from my mother-in-law and have it posted for sale on ebay. I thought the purse was legit but someone sent me an email saying that they thought it might be fake and told me that I should use this site to authenicate the purse.

Welcome to the purse forum! Links to your own listings are not permitted. A clear picture of the creed patch is needed to authenticate. Post pictures of your bag here: http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/authenticate-this-coach-818914.html

I'm a little concerned over the look of this creed in one of my geometrics. If the bag is fake, it is a really good one. All the details match my other geometrics. It is just the font of the creed and the fact that it starts with a J that has me a little worried. First picture is the J creed geometric. The others are other creeds I have that are on authentic bags from the same plant.

ETA: I think it is fake. I found a few differences. It is a scary good fake. I'm still going to keep it because I'm not 100% sure, but I'm a little sick about it.

Interesting. The other fake geometric I got last year had the same creed number, and I compared it to this fake! The other fake had many more things wrong with it.

These things are fake on this one: the inside zipper doesn't have a stop and is too short to go all the way to the end. The inside of the turnlock female part has extra grooves, like the one on the right in the attached picture. Other than that, it is a perfect copy.

I think we need to add J7C to the list of possible fake prefixes.

I don't see any obvious problems but as suggested, we need to see the creed.

If and when you post your own item on the authenticate this thread, just post pictures without any mention of selling.

Thanks, Hyacinth. I appreciate your clearing that up for me. I guess I was just assuming they started making both sizes at the same time and glossed over the fact that only the larger one was shown as "new" in that 1998 catalog. It didn't make sense, because I had so many examples of older 9960's in my files. (Maybe the 9960 was so popular that Coach decided to introduce a larger version later?)

Thanks again!

I wasn't sure where to post this question, as it is from an auction that ended some time ago. I was looking at pictures of some previous styles that I like and came across this picture that seemed different than some that I saw that looked like old Coach ads.

Here is the link to the old aucttion.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-6371-...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Did Coach do a version of this bag that did not have a center seam? (I'm also trying to decide if I see signature lining in there which would pretty much confirm a fake, I think.) But my question about the center seam still stands.

The ones I've seen from old ad photo all did. I wish I could post a pic of some of the old ad photos, but I really can't get picture loading figured out here on this forum. Sorry.

That style has a center seam on one side (front) and no seam on the other side (back).

The listing you showed looks fine. It has solid color lining.

Can someone please tell me during what period Coach used the glued-in leather strip for the "Coach bag registration number".

Was it it only used for certain styles or was it used on all bags during that time?

Are bags with this strip considered to be more collectable than those with the stamped serial number?
