My skinny tote has a registered trademark sign next to Coach on the creed. There is one listed on ebay that also has the trademark sign and the seller says it is from 1977 - I guess because of the brochure that shows all the styles. Mine came with the same paperwork but not the same brochure as in the listing, because in mine the slim tote isn't on the last page.

What years did Coach use the trademark sign in the Creed? Is mine older or newer than the ones skinny totes that don't have it? There is one on ebay that doesn't have the trademark sign and doesn't have a serial number and so I assume that one is older.

Just in case you can date mine from the brochure, the brochure number is 8005, and includes styles 8920 Courier Pouch large, 9085 Duffle sac, 9235 Crescent, 9441 Watermelon tote, 9455 Zippered Clutch, 9546 Skinny tote, 9565 Shopping Bag large, 9590 Buckled pouch small, and 9635 Convertible clutch.

Thanks!

I have NO idea, sorry.

I figured it out. Most likely, it is from 1980 because the factory brochure says "In the almost 40 years since it was established..." My style brochure is numbered 8005, which might stand for May 1980 or the fifth version for 1980. My brochure also states "for more than 15 years Coach has been producing the same great-looking bags." I wonder if this means that they were making the skinny tote for that long.
The bag from 1977 has a brochure that says 1977 on it and that purse also has the registered trademark sign, so they must have used it in 1977 and 1980 and probably the years in between.
I bought my first Coach bag in 1977 but I can't remember what it looked like. I don't recall seeing any bags with the kisslock. I wish I had a better memory.

No one's memory is perfect when it comes to remembering what they bought 30 or 40 years ago. Almost every time an Ebay seller claims to have a bought a bag in a certain year, they turn out to be way off just based on the age or date code in the bag. That's why the older and vintage bags are almost impossible to date unless the original receipt or some other dated paperwork is still available.

So unless it's something someone bought to connect to or to celebrate a birthday (or a divorce!), accurately remembering the year something was bought is almost impossible. ;)

Apparently I won this bag on ebay. I bid and then asked a question (I know, wrong order). However, the seller never responded so I don't know what the creed looks like or even the creed number. Should I keep bugging her for information before I pay or should I just pay and hope for the best? If it is counterfeit, I will lose the shipping cost both ways.

Yes, please keep bugging her for the picture of the creed because it's absolutely necessary in order to authenticate it.

Don't pay until she sends it, and once you get that picture, post in the AT Coach section in the format so Member id sandi7213 's listing and name will be out there.

As for losing shipping in the event it's fake, at most, you'll only lose shipping for the return. If the seller doesn't agree to refund the full purchase price, in the event of a SNAD/counterfeit dispute, you will get the full refund. (IMO, the seller should offer to either allow you to destroy a fake -- if it is deemed as such -- or should pay return shipping too.)

Thanks. I was worrying about getting a NPB against my account if I didn't pay.

Good point, but why wouldn't she agree to send you the necessary picture(s) in order to prove her honesty?

She sent me the creed number, not a picture, and at least it is the proper creed for that style. I decided to pay and get it authenticated once I receive it as I don't want to alienate the seller. She was upset that the auction didn't go higher and I thought about telling her that it would have if she had posted a picture of the creed, but then I thought that if she had, I wouldn't have won. If it is real and in good shape, I got a good deal.

So many of these sellers that aren't familiar with selling Coach don't understand the importance of the creed and even fewer understand the meaning of it (I would say that less than 1% know how to read a date code). One seller told me he wouldn't post the picture of the creed because then someone else would steal it and use it for their auction.

BTW, the seller of the red fake (probably) geometric agreed to take it back although she insists that it is authentic, so most likely, it will be relisted.

04M-5661 or O4M-5661 - ALWAYS FAKE whether the first digit is the letter "O" or a zero. The first half is invalid and is missing a valid month code, and the style number in the second half should belong ONLY to a multicolor Scribble Tote.

In fact, ANY style number that has only O4M- or 04M- in front of it with no other digits in the front half is fake.

I found a coach bag in a box at my mom's, and I'm trying to find out how old it is, etc. Does anyone recognize it? The No. on the inside is 0587-210
It is brown leather with 2 pockets on the outside on one side of the bag and zippered top. It's about 10.5 inches wide. I can't seem to get the picture to attach.
I am new to Coach, don't know if I will keep it or sell it and for how much. Can't seem to find info about it anywhere. Thanks!!!

You'll need to post pictures of the front, back, inside, creed and side view. If further details are needed, they'll be requested.

Dear All,

I was wondering what you all think of this odd little bag. The leather looks good quality and I assume it was made in 70th so that is why it has no serieal number, but I can't imagine they already use magnetic closure 40 years ago. Any thoughts on its authenticity? Thanks!

The question was answered in the Authenticate thread.

I am curious about the serial numbers for the Olympics items. I found this listing:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-100th...=170847432208&ps=63&clkid=8770163768465226153
It shows a catalog page which identifies the item as #657. I noticed that the creed number starts with 657. I noticed that items of the same style all have numbers starting with 657 as in this listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NWOT-COACH-...718?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item4165dfcf8e
So I am guessing that the numbers after the dash are unique serial numbers -are they? Was there a limited edition, i.e. a certain number of items made?
I am also wondering about the part of the Salearea guides that says that the Olympics items can have 6 digits. Was this only for some of the items?
