Thank you for answering. :) That's what hit me as strange about them, as they seemed so exaggerated. I am used to that happening with wearing leather, but it looked really odd on that bag.

The stretch marks on that brown bag are in an area where the leather is constantly being bent when the flap is opened so they aren't 100 percent proof that the bag is fake, although they're a lot bigger and more obvious than they would normally be. The stretch marks are suspicious but the serial number given in the listing is absolute proof. And for some odd reason, someone ASQ'd the seller asking if the strap was adjustable and the seller said it was. Doesn't look very adjustable to me.

Here are the "stretch marks" we're talking about:

The sad thing is someone bought it and probably thinks they got a great deal on a vintage Coach bag. :yucky:

I did a search for the seller's name here and it turns out she has been discussed before as a seller to avoid. I feel bad for that buyer!

Yep, that seller is a real prize, isn't she? If anyone wants to search the posts here for " clotheshorsegal " they'll see for themselves. Instead of removing a proven fake, she takes new photos and removes photos showing the areas that prove the bag is fake. NOT someone I'd EVER do business with or recommend anyone else to buy from either. Wonder how many fakes that makes so far?

Hi everybody! I just joined, it's nice to know I am not the only fanatic out there.

I was wondering if someone could help me determine the authenticity of a Penelope 14422 Coach bag I just purchased on Ebay. I did a lot of research and looked really closely at the photos - and most of the details passed the 'fake' test. I got no red flags. The C's line up perfectly, and they look good (I compared them to the Coach bags I bought from a local Coach store), the stitching is tight and perfect, everywhere on the bag. The creed looks real, the part number does indeed match the part number for the one I bought. The hardware is nice heavy quality, and the metal rings don't have any weld seams, and they all say 'Coach' on them. Even after I received the bag, it seems to be nice quality. The seller has a 100% perfect record, and has hundreds of nice comments from happy customers.

BUT there are two things which give me a little twinge of doubt: The dustbag does not have a red edge. Every site I see which tells how to tell a fake Coach says "the dustbag always has the red edge". The one I got is a very nice dustbag, and has that same quality silk feel as the ones I got when I bought bags from the Coach store...but it's a chocolate brown bag with a pale gold string and the Coach logo. There is no red anywhere. Does anybody know - Did Coach sometimes use this color dust bag?

Also, the bag feels lighter than I thought it would feel for its size. My small signature Coach bag from about 6 years ago is much heavier than this larger bag. Did Coach lighten up their bags in recent years?

I am attaching a photo ...first time, hope this works!

For authentication questions, please post here in the format requested in the first post of the thread: http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/authenticate-this-coach-577470-260.html

When you post the listing and the seller ID, if the listing doesn't show interior lining and creed pictures, please post them.

As for guides, please don't read them, and if you do, be very skeptical of what you read there. Most guides are (at best) incomplete and partially obsolete and (at worst) completely inaccurate.

OK, I will copy and paste the question all over again to that other thread.

But just an observation - since this thread is called "Answers to Authenticity Questions" I bet you're going to get a whole bunch more newcomers like me who post their authenticity concerns here. Might want to change that thread title.

I know it's confusing and overwhelming as a newbie to try to wade your way through this huge forum.

I found the listing you purchased from:

http://cgi.ebay.com/PENELOPE-Chocol...tem&pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item3a5c74a670

The bag is fine. Coach has made several different types of dust bags over the years and your dustbag also looks good.

Thank you so much. What about the fact that the bag feels sort of lightweight for its size? Has anybody else made the observation in here that newer sig Coach bags feel lighter than older sig Coach bags? I don't think it's inconceivable that Coach might have reduced the weight in response to customer feedback.

A lot of newer bags both in leather and Sig fabric are lighter. Coach has often trimmed off extra weight or introduced bags with less and lighter hardware and thinner leathers. As someone who's suffered muscle and nerve problems in the neck and shoulder area from carrying heavy, overloaded bags, I appreciate their efforts to make their products easier and safer to carry. Bags with a lot of shiny hardware may look cool but they can tear the heck out of your shoulder.
