Another diamond stud question!

of the 3 options you mentioned, I'd definitely go with blue nile. they are definitely trustworthy, & they will help you as you select the stones. remember that the cut & proportions are everything, & I personally wouldn't go above SI1 clarity for earrings.

The pair that you wanted to show us did not post, but that's just as well as I think because in my experience, it's not so safe to post a link to a pair of diamond that you are considering buying. There are people who will buy them out from under you, unless they have been reserved, if they are a really desirable size (which a .80 ctw is).

On another note, I don't think larger earrings look like a rap star or look fake. I could be prejudiced because I have larger earrings (1.81 cttw, just slightly smaller than 2 cttw-- I got them for my 51st birthday). I made sure to get a great quality--H color, VS clarity, and especially, they are ideal cut (AGS 000, hearts and arrows) and they do not look like CZs of a similar size. When I used to wear CZs I never wore over .50cttw because over that, it is easier to tell they are fakes, but these do not have the same look at all.

This is the exact size that I want--others may prefer smaller or larger as budget and taste allows. And my earrings are actually bigger than my rings. I have smaller fingers but substantial earrings look better next to my round face. I personally cannot wear an RB much bigger than 1 carat(and my largest solitaire is not even close to THAT) though I can wear some other shapes bigger, particularly long narrow ones such as marquise, which lengthen my fingers when worn the old-fashioned way, north-south. Anyway, sort of a long post to say that different things suit different people, that's all.

I'm with black jade on this. I have 4cttw and the last thing I look like is a rap star. I have a smaller pair about 1.5cttw but I prefer to wear the larger pair most of the time. Just wanted to point out that not everyone thinks bigger diamonds are rap star or fake, and that comments like these may unknowingly offend.

No offense was meant whatsoever. Of course this was a huge generalization meant with humor. No, most women I see with large stones do not look like rappers! Nor do I assume right away they are fake.

Many may think earring under 1ct look cheap. That is ok. Whatever makes you happy, right?

Anyway, I do truly apologize if anyone was offended.

I was definitely not offended.
I was just pointing out that its different for different people. I wear larger earrings because I have a big round face and need something larger near it. Doesn't have to be diamonds. I wear larger gold earrings too--notihng petite because it does not suit me.
But my rings are petite because rings with larger center stones don't look good on my fingers. My biggest diamond in a ring is .65. When I got my earrings, my husband actually gave me money to spend and I could have got a big ring but I didn't want one because it would not suit me, personally. But that's just me. I would never say that no-one should have a ring with a large center stone jsut because I don't like them on me. I like them on other people--and even if I don't, what's the difference if THEY like it?
Honestly, the only time I think someone shouldn't have something is if they a) got it dishonestly or b) foolishly got into debt, especially for something that was not a necessity. If they like it, they can afford it and they paid for it, I think they should enjoy. It might not be stylish to say so in some quarters, but I LIKE living in a capitalist country where you can work hard and get rewarded. From what I have seen (and read) the alternatives are pretty awful.
And by no means do I think earrings under one carat look cheap.I have seen beautiful earrings a great deal under one carat. And something could be beautiful for another reason. The only other pair of diamond earrings I have is .10 cctw and not even very sparkly. But my hubby got them for me when we were first married and that was all he could afford and even though I don't look great in small earrings, believe me, I wore and wore those, and actually, I take out my 1.80's sometimes and I STILL wear them. Had I had to do a trade-in or something like that, I couldnt' have done it.

I just received my studs today from blue nile. I got 0.94ctw/G/SI2/Ideal cut. I paid $1,688 including 18K martini setting. I was worried about the screwbacks but they are so comfortable! My MIL bought me a pair of .25ctw basket set screwback from sam's club 2 christmases ago and I can not wear them bc they are too thick. The post are also long. Slightly longer than other earrings I own.

I think blue nile has great prices. I was looking into white flash and they were more expensive but I do like the fact that they are upgradedable.

You can compare different earring pairs and then send it to a specialist on blue nile and someone will email you back stating which would be the better pick. Also before placing an order you can email them asking if they are eye clean as well.

I am now in search of a solitaire fixed bezel pendant and am waiting on an email from blue nile as to what specs I should stay with.

Thank you for the info regarding Blue Nile. It sounds like your earrings are pretty similar to what I am looking for. So, what do they look like?? Do you love them?? Is the quality of the stones what you had expected? did you design your own? Congrats :D

frick&frack: I didn't think I did, but thanks for confirming :smile1:

Sounds BEAUTIFUL. Post photos SOON.
Can you email the specialists at Blue Nile now? When I bought, I didn't know that, I just called them on the phone. And I always found them to be great, friendly, informative and accomodating. I was so confused all the time by all the people on Pricescope insisting that Blue Nile 'dropshipped' and that they couldn't tell you what your diamonds would look lke since they weren't there--in my experience THIS IS NOT TRUE.
Whiteflash is definitely more expensive, but as I said, I liked them too.
I think you would get a great pendant from Blue nile. When I got my pendant, I was done with buying luxury and went to the local pawn shop, picked out a ring with a pretty diamond (heartshaped) and went and had it reset in a pendant, the whole thing cost $350 to do, including the price of the diamond and it is .75 ct, white, sparkly and eyeclean. And I still have the ring of solid 14k gold to put another stone in whenever I want to. I was thinking of a spessartite, but have been lazy about buying it.

I think photos of my pendant are in the pawn shop finds thread.

They will say anything over there to make sure people buy from their beloved. ;)

*I* am the one who made the "offensive" comment about oversized studs, and while that was not my intention, I apologize if it really did offend someone.

I think we need some photos of these new Blue Nile Studs.

Pics of my blue nile studs. Again they are G/SI2/Ideal cut. I also included pic of the post to get an idea of the length
