is there anything like "involuntary commitment" in the states? i know we have it here in oz and is very rigorous ( examination by mental health doctors and a review by the guardianship tribunal, etc) to avoid people being committed under false allegations or for personal gain
poor girl, she really needs treatment

If nothing else they should cut off her access to her money. Doesn't appear they have done so since she keeps being spotted in restaurants. I know we have been through the whole "she is an adult you can't control her" argument but where exactly are they? I feel like I would be shadowing my child's every move if I thought she was unbalanced.

Troubled actress Amanda Bynes grabs a bite at her favourite diner... before covering her face with a blue sweater as she exits

Amanda Bynes has been a creature of habit over the past few days, and on Saturday returned to the same restaurant where she had dined the previous two days.

The troubled actress was seen enjoying a meal at Mel's Drive-In, and while she appeared to have no problem being recognised while she dined, she was intent on going incognito as she made an exit.

Dressed in a plaid shirt, black skinny jeans and white platform pumps, the star covered her face with a blue sweater as she made her way through the car park.

While it is unknown if the 28-year-old dined with anyone, she was seen getting into the back of a car being driven by a gentleman and heading off afterwards.

Amanda had dined at the same spot the day before, while her desperate parents Rick and Lynn were at Ventura County court in Oxnard, California, where they won their bid to retain conservatorship of their daughter, according to TMZ.

The couple - who were made Amanda's conservators earlier this month - put on a united front as they arrived at the courthouse but it was clear the stress was taking its toll on the star's father.

She's got it covered: The actress sported a bandage on her face, which she'd previously claimed during a past visit to Mel's was to cover up the result of a cosmetic procedure

Off we go: Amanda got into a car that was driven by an unknown man

While Lynn smiled as they walked in hand-in-hand, Rick - a dentist by trade - looked very solemn.
The father of three - Amanda has older siblings Jillian O'Keefe and Tommy Bynes - no doubt has a lot on his mind.

According to TMZ, Amanda's lawyer arrived in court, but the judge ruled that he could not represent the star because under the conservatorship she was not permitted to enter into a binding agreement.

The hearing therefore concluded before it began, and the conservatorship remained in place.

It was not expected that Amanda would be released but, according to TMZ, the actress was allowed out on her own as the star - who has been taking her medication - went before a hearing officer at the facility asking to be released.

The officer felt the star was stable enough which meant she was no longer allowed to be held involuntarily under a 5150 psychiatric hold.

The officer proceeded to end the 30-day hold that had been granted October 10 and Amanda was free to leave.

Since she has been under her own recognizance, the She's The Man actress has once again accused her father of being a 'sexual predator' - a claim her parents have strongly denied.

Amanda was not in court despite stating in her earlier Twitter rant she was planning to attend to prove she is 'capable' of looking after herself following her Thursday release from a psychiatric facility.

The star wrote: 'I am going to court with my lawyer today to fight my mother and father over control of my personal life and control of my finances.'

However, just half an hour before she was scheduled to appear, the troubled starlet was busy eating lunch at Mel's Drive-In Diner in Hollywood.

TMZ reports she was sitting with a man, who drove her to the diner in a sports car.
The site reports: 'The waitress tells us Amanda was chatty, talking about her plastic surgery and requesting a hair tie.

'At one point Amanda started chatting with people at nearby tables, and when one person said "Hi," she responded "I'm fine."'

Ordering watermelon, the actress paid her tab with a $100 bill.

Her behaviour was erratic however, the website said: 'The waitress tells us she stepped out of the way several times for an imaginary person.'

The night before the Easy A actress had dined at the restaurant's Sunset Strip location, where she was seen ordering ‘fried chicken, salmon, Caesar salad with guacamole, and a house salad with Italian and ranch’.

Out again: The troubled star - pictured at LAX on October 10 - was released from the psychiatric facility where she was involuntarily committed after arguing she was stable and taking her medication.

Amanda was reportedly chatty with her waiter and was allegedly heard saying that she was shy because she had just had a procedure done on her face which required a bandage.

Explaining why she was wearing the bandage, Amanda revealed at the end of her Twitter barrage: 'I look horrible right now because I had a procedure done under my eyes to remove micro cysts under my eyes, so I need to wear a bandage To Court.'
Following her first meal since her release, the actress attempted to get a room at the exclusive London Hotel.

TMZ reports that the She's The Man star demanded a room for the night but was denied by staff - something the embattled actress did not take well.

Sources told the website: 'When she got there she was turned away. Amanda has stayed there before and caused big problems.'

Trying to prove she could pay for the rooms - which start at $299 a night - the actress 'made it rain' dollars in the middle of the lobby.

TMZ reports: 'We're told Amanda became angry, grabbed a giant wad of cash, and tossed the bills into the air in the direction of the front desk.'

Also concerning, was the star's return to Twitter, as she sparked further fears for her mental well-being on Friday morning accusing her father of being a 'sex predator'.

The latest allegations come weeks after Amanda accused her father Rick Bynes of abusing her as a child, a claim her parents have previously vehemently denied.
'The police filed a report against my dad - I am not able to be in the same room with him. He is a sexual predator and he SHOULD BE IN JAIL.'

An LAPD spokesperson confirmed to MailOnline that the department had not received a report from Amanda that she was sexually abused by her father.
West Hollywood Sheriffs also said they not 'seen or heard' from the star.

In previous deleted tweets earlier on Friday, she had also accused her attorney Tamar Arminak of being corrupt, adding that she 'belonged in prison'.

The star also briefly claimed her phone had been hacked but then removed the tweet.
In the tweets she also takes aim at Sam Lufti - who managed pop princess Britney in 2007 when she had a mental breakdown - who was reportedly approached by Amanda's parents for advice on how to help their daughter.

The claims are similar to the ones she made against her father earlier this month, when she accused him of 'fondling' himself in front of her.

Just hours after her barrage of tweets, she claimed that the 'micro-chip' in her brain had made her write the posts.

Her parents quickly released a statement in which they spoke of their devastation at their child's comments.
Her mother Lynne said in a statement: 'I am heartbroken today for my husband of 47 years. Rick has been the best father and husband a family can ask for.
'He has never abused Amanda or our other children [Tommy and Julian] physically or sexually. These accusations are absolutely horrible and could not be further from the truth!'
Amanda's parents applied to be her conservators on October 22.

TMZ has claimed that her parents told the judge that their daughter is a ‘substantial risk’ to herself and others.
The site also claims that legal documents have revealed that Amanda has been spending a large amount of her savings and has been buying jewellery such as Cartier watches for strangers.

The 28-year-old actress, was arrested for driving under the influence [DUI]in September and fled to New York.

Once there Amanda's behaviour became more bizarre and she was accused of shoplifting and was caught on camera dancing around and singing to herself in a store.

Her parents, with the help of Sam, were able to convince the star to fly back to California, where she was out into a mental health facility.

Amanda spent five months in a treatment facility in July 2013 when she was placed under involuntary psychiatric hold.

There's been scuttlebutt for a while that Amanda was abused by a Nickelodeon producer, a known pedophile.

I also have concerns that Amanda may not want to get help because she really has problems with her parents. Surely there is someone else who could take the conservatorship?

She believes, (rightly or wrongly) that she was abused. I don't think them having control is the right step to ensuring her mental well being.

Something is not right in the milk here. Why did her parents engage Sam Lufti? That really throws me. Why does her mother always feel sad for her husband but not for her daughter? I've seen that statement from her more than a few times now.

My main point. If the control of her by her parents is the issue, surely they would look for another guardian. It's just exacerbating the problem IMHO.

I've previously been erring on the side of her parents, but something just isn't feeling right to me.

Just to clarify...it's the same statement, she made one statement, they just keep reprinting it.

Fair enough. My concerns remain the same. Perhaps she wasn't abused by her father, but perhaps she was abused by someone else and maybe blames her parents for letting it happen on their watch.

Before anyone jumps on me, yes it could be to do with her mental illness, but it also could be that something really did happen to her.

You just have to google the Nickelodeon guy and a lot of semi-creepy photos of him with both Amanda and other stars of the Nick shows come up. Very possessive - always a controlling hand on their shoulder - and some where they are on his lap.

I've heard that as well. I actually did a lot of reading about the guy (Dan Schneider) and the things he's allegedly done. It's pretty messed up if it's true. And would definitely explain a lot about Amanda's mental health and her relationship with her parents.
