Am I nuts?Do you save your bags because you're afraid to carry them everyday?

I think if you worry about wearing a bag, you probably spent more on it than you could afford. I am not saying you should be careless, but you should be equally as comfortable with all of your bags. If you're not comfortable, IMO, you probably spent too much on it.

I don't think this is true for everyone. Some bags aren't easily replaceable, some are irreplaceable (e.g., seasonal colors/styles). I'm persnickety. With the quilted bags, I'm worried about deflating which I abhor. Certain defects cannot be reversed.

Maybe there is a thread like this somewhere, I'm sorry if this is a duplicate- but lately I find myself NOT carrying my AW Roccos or my Bal Work or Twiggy because I think they are too good for every day. I buy them, I love them, I won't carry them? Am I nuts? I'm just afraid they will get worn out looking and I won't be able to replace them. I have 4 Roccos and 3 Bals! What is wrong with me? I'm carrying a MBMJ bag I just bought to use "every day". It is a nice bag, about 400$, (but a bit too small for my liking), but I feel guilty that I have these fabulous uber-cashy bags in my closet..am I alone in this craziness?

You are not nuts...LOL.

I also carry my MBMJ leather Drawstringy in Raw Sugar colour as my "everyday" bag.

I keep my "premier designer" bags in the closet, and only take them out to use for the appropriate occasions/weather...

If you're like me- spending your own hard earned cash to buy these bags, then you are not nuts to not be using them all day, everyday. You tend to appreciate the bags more and end up "baby-ing" them.

That's not to say that people who get their bags as gifts do not also appreciate their bags...it's just that we might be more careful in trying to preserve the original condition/value of the bag since we put in so much money into buying them ourselves ;)

LOL!!! I so love the way you put this (although you have that little 'disclaimer' at the end!) I don't baby my bags and likes to wear it everyday, so maybe I should start looking at 2000 dollars bags! YOu are an enabler! :p:graucho:

I think most bags look better with a little age and wear. I definitely wear what I have, and I would not buy anything I didn't feel comfortable using. I only use my vintage skins for special occasions because they ARE more delicate, though.

From a pure economics standpoint, a bag you don't use is more expensive than one used frequently. Let's say I spend $2000 on a bag, and I use it 3 days a week, a total of 156 days a year. My cost per use is $12.82. Now let's say I buy a $400 bag and use it once a month. That's $33.33 per use - more than twice as expensive as the $2000 bag in terms of per-use cost. From a strictly economic perspective, your special ocassion bags should have the lowest initial cost and the bags you use daily can be much more expensive. It is the same principal that says your wardrobe staples should be the highest quality and most expensive, and the trendy items should be less expensive - the cost per use does not justify spending more.

So get that Bal out of the closet - it makes it more affordable!

I think that in that case, you're probably being overly sentimental. If there is something impeding your enjoyment of the bag, that can't be a positive thing - it is after all just a bag. Part of being stylish is having a confident and carefree attitude - if your overly concerned with the things you wear or your handbags, it translates negatively into your body language and makes you seem somehow less attractive.

That's just my opinion, because I hate the feeling of being overly cautious...made those mistakes before :)

BTW, a $2000 bag worn EVERY day over the course of a year works out to about $5.48 per day - the cost of a solid Starbucks habit. Make your own coffee - or do something else to cut about $5-6/day aout of your budget - and you can have one of these babies every year, guilt-free.

Good advice...now I'll have to carry around a glass jar everyday for TWO YEARS and put in $5.48 each time I have a craving for Starbucks!!:roflmfao:

And I still won't have enough for that Jumbo Chanel Classic Flap! LOL.

LOL! Or just stick to the outlets and try to find 1000 deals so I could have another one in six months :graucho:

You are so funny! omg. I can picture a tip jar all of our desks at work, for when our bosses are really pleased with our work! Roflmao! It could say " help me get my venti"! Hahaha! And wont it be soooo fun walking into Starbucks with a fabulous bag and dumping a bunch of change out of it for an order!

If I do spend a substantial amount of money buying a bag, I'd be sure to baby it.

In fact I try to protect most of my bags when they're still new. Maybe in a few months and then they'll be relegated as an "everyday" bag. I have plenty of cheap brandless bags bought from Thailand and Taiwan that I can "abuse" from everyday use

No, it's not being oversentimental (not more than anyone else here who is going on a forum about bags!) it's about aesthetics. ;) You're presuming too much about how people who like to take baby their bags are wearing their bags. I'm not walking around like robot  although that would be interesting. A lot of people like to keep their bags pristine and there's nothing wrong with that. Some people don't mind the look of aging - and that's ok too.

Some bags age better than others. The structured bags I'm thinking of IMO don't look good when they're sagging and deflated. And they're not easy to replace. There are a few bags that I wished I took better care of as they are no longer being made and they didn't age well. So I ended up getting rid of them.

I don't think I'm presuming too much. If taking care of your bag is interfering with your enjoyment, then there is some imbalance - either you paid too much or you're overly sentimental etc. The thread is about being overly concerned and if others feel the same way. It is all an issue of balance. I am not advocating throwing the bag around and not caring for it, but, over care is also a problem. I think bags are about enjoyment and about making you feel better about yourself, not worse. Again that's my opinion....but we can agree to disagree :smile1:
