A Gathered Sophia "Wrinkle" Treatment that Worked!

Great tip!! I have a midnight gathered Sophia that I bought off #Bay and the auction pictures didn't show that there was a small "pucker" like you had on your bag. I was IN LOVE with the bag, so didn't want to return, but I'm going to try this method asap. It doesn't bother me much, but to return it to "perfect" condition would make my day! I can relate to your nervousness in using the iron, but sometimes you just gotta try! Just this morning I took some scuff marks off an LV epi bag using Lysol wipes (and holding my breath!). Thanks for sharing with us!

I tried on my grey gathered sophia and it didn't really have much of an impact. My problem is right where the pleat is toward the bottom of the bag. There are two gathers that kind of pucker out right where they made the pleat and I tried the iron on a very low setting and didn't notice any change. I gradually turned the iron up, but didn't see any change and I didn't feel comfortable going higher on the setting. Not sure anything will help, but at least I got a good deal on the bag :graucho: Glad to hear others have had luck! I think it just depends on the location of the problem.

Good idea. Maybe a regular iron is too big. A craft store like Joanns, micheals, or hobby lobby will carry a little triangle head iron in the quilting section. They are usually under 20 bucks. Maybe that will give better results in tight spots.

Two of my gathered leather Sophia bags had the same problem after a few days of use. I really like the texture of gathered leather. However, it is very hard to clean this leather since it has so many pleats. It also relaxes after just a few days of use.

As a perfectionist, I cannot bear this type of problem. I was also worried that ironing may void the warranty.

That was a smart fix! BEAUTIFUL bag btw:okay:
This is a good idea. I actually acheived the same results by placing my gathered sophia on a flat surface and carefully placing a very heavy book on the pleats and leaving it overnight. They never came undone again. This may not work if your problem is in a hard to get at area.

Thanks for posting this. I feel a lot better now if mine should start to relax. I wonder if an ironing board would help in some cases.

Thanks for posting this thread. I has an evil bay purchase arrive that was listed as "near mint" and had several areas of very loose, almost flattened gathers on the front and the back. I was so upset--seller does not accept returns and isn't responding to emails.

I got this thread opened and worked on the bag for a while, and it doesn't look near mint yet, but it looks way better than "used with damage" which is what arrived.
