2025 Resolution: Shopping my own Bag and SLG Collection

Great prompt. :)

I think my most useful hack to shopping my own is comparing anything I am dazzled by to the ones in my own collection. For example, if I see a blue bag that tempts me, I pull out my own blue bags and always find that I have something in a close enough colour, size or style that the new one would be redundant. It's crazy how often I am drawn to bags similar to what I already own. It's good that I'm consistent in my taste but, ridiculous that I somehow forget that I already have that niche covered and still want more. :lol:
I am often drawn to bags similar to what I already own. When I'm out shopping, sometimes I'll forget what I have until I bring the new bag home.

I personally never buy anything I don't want, it's not a killing-time kind of thing. What I learned from selling to so-called consumers is there are plenty of people who don't know what they want, they just shop.
I don’t like to shop so it’s never a killing time thing for me. My issue in the past was 1) early on not knowing my own mind and getting caught up in the bags I was told (by tPF culture, etc.) I “should” own and then 2) buying for occasions / a lifestyle that I don’t have.

Now that I’ve moved past those two issues, my collection is stablizing. I don’t mind slow growth when it means adding a bag that’s good for my wardrobe. I just can’t take selling buying mistakes.
I wish I could swear off the selling cycle but I feel guilty at wasting the money if I don't at least try to recoup some of it. One of the reasons I'm focusing on buying cheaper bags these days.
See my comment above. When I was buying badly, I definitely sold because I wanted to recoup some of the expenditure. So, I’m on the same page with you on that.

But, now that I sent my last set of “outs” to consignment in January, I’m being very focused on shopping my closet and buying sparingly and wisely so I never have reason to sell again.

Speaking of consignment, I just sent a pair of Christian Louboutin So Me 100 to consignment. I wore those beautiful shoes ONCE and my feet almost died. I’m a huge fan of high heels so I was shocked that I was in such pain. I don’t “do” uncomfortable shoes so I’ll limit my Louboutin wearing to boots. I own 4 pair and find them easy to wear. But not those demon strappy heels. :lol:

Oh, I can't wait to see (or hear about) when you buy a wonderful piece of art.

In the past 5 years I have just donated bags, mostly to a charity I am a patron of. Most of things go to young, young-at-heart fashionistas that just love dressing-up and do their shopping in charity shops. I am not going to give head-space to haggling over £10 and time to making boxes and then hanging around for returns.

I remember from eBay days someone returning the most beautiful Italian sheepskin and goat-hair, apres ski boots I'd sold for a bargain price because I'd written they were fleece-lined and she'd argued they were 'only wool' inside. If you turn a sheep inside out, suede is on the outside and wool's on the inside.

You are so right about buyers, especially on eBay. Too many shop and then try to force a return. I gave up selling things on eBay years ago after a buyer left negative feedback for a 40 ies dress she had bought at a bargain price months ago saying it was polyester. I don't need this! At all! If I sell at all ( and don't remodel/ repurpose my things) I use the classifieds and PayPal friends. Selling definetely has become a hassle.
It used to be fun- a long time ago!

Aww, I know this experience very well. I usually don't buy, but I browse and think:"I' d like this," until I turn my brain on and realize I actually already own the very same or a very similar piece.
For me it would be ideal to have all my bags, clothes and shoes on display all the time.

I watched a documentation on M. Louboutin yesterday. He was asked whether he thought his shoes were comfortable to wear. "I don't care about comfort," was his answer plus a remark about grandma slippers.

@sweetaure beautiful brown bags, thanks for sharing. Welcome!

@Sparkletastic your metallics are stunning! Your bag tower is :loveeyes::loveeyes: :faint:
I prefer your silver floral Fendi bag over the Dior. The Fendi is prettier.

@papertiger well done and congrats on your recent additions. I love seeing your Bolide(s). I hope DH is doing well. Your Bal Bowler is amazing and you look gorgeous!

@cecchetti and @Bag peace sending virtual hugs and good wishes. :hugs:

@baghabitz34 great to see you!

@whateve pretty metallic bags!

@dcooney4 I love the colour of your pale rose gold Mz Wallace!

@cowgirlsboots fantastic Dior metallic SLGs!

@880 love your whole metallic collection - all are beauties!

He’s said some really careless and weird things. Ultimately, he is clear he designs for the male gaze (which is irrelevant to me. I like to look good for me.)

Because I’d bought CL boots first and easily wear them, I foolishly dismissed the talk that his shoes were uncomfortable. Those strappy heels taught me a hard lesson.

Hello friends! It’s been a while since I last peeped in here. Glad to see familiar “faces” still here. :heart: I have taken on bigger responsibility at work and that cuts on my free time.

I don’t rotate bags a lot nowadays. 2 bags in a week is already an improvement! And I’ve limited my rotation to maybe 5-6 recent bags! What to do with the collection that I’ve built up over the years???! Consignment shops are getting more popular here now, but in truth, I am not sure I am ready to let go! Old dilemma, lol. But I really have not used a lot of them in years.

In the time I had been away from TPF, my brown bag collection grew - Loewe Puzzle in tan, Gucci Ophidia (don’t know the model name), Mulberry small Bayswater in Oak, Fleuron Trinity, APC phone pouch! And I get to use them more than my blacks as neutral. Just sharing as I didn’t have tan bags before the pandemic. Preferences do change. :smile:

How nice to see you posting! I hope you are fine in spite of the increased workload.
Preferences definetely do change, taste changes.
As long as you are not 100% sure to be ready to part with the bags you haven't used in years I would go by the German saying: " das frisst kein Brot" and leave them where they are. (Given you do not need the room or the funds they could turn into when sold. Selling seems to be rather difficult nowadays and most bags won't recover their original price by far.)
Who knows, maybe your preferences will change again in the future.

Until then: enjoy your new tan bags in good health!

It’s so good to “see” you again! You crossed my mind a couple of weeks ago and I hoped all was wonderful with you.

Congrats on the new role as well.

I agree with @cowgirlsboots. If you don’t need the funds or space, don’t sell just yet. Who knows how you’ll feel in a couple of years. Styles, life stages and our preferences always change.

(P.S. We’re the same on brown / tan bags. I just added them to my collection in the last 2 years.)
