2025 Resolution: Shopping my own Bag and SLG Collection

I'm in your lane with lipsticks as I think they can perk up any outfit especially having a "red lip"
which I'm a big fan of. The more shades you try the more you will find your comfort zone & don't
be so self conscious about your full lips. There are plenty who spend a fortune to have what you have.
Personally love La Bouche Rouge, Serge Lutens, Dries Van Noten, several Hermes shades of
lipstick , Tom Ford, YSL & By Terry
Just purchased the new Rhode lip shape contour. Will pass along a review

DvN and LBR are on my list, as is Lisa Eldridge. I have a few Hermes lipsticks but subtle shades. I'm going to work through a few now before I buy anymore. I would like to get into the position of a signature go-to red in terms of colour and formula. We shall see.

The Chanel formulas (Satins and Mattes) have had very good reviews, and if you buy a lipstick/case and 2 extra refills from the Chanel stores, you can 'upgrade' with a white wooden box and leather (or 'leather') lipstick holder for the glass (not plastic) case. The case is absolutely beautiful and not as heavy as I'd feared.

On a handbag note, February is our red bag month. I see Vogue has designated the red bag as a classic https://www.vogue.co.uk/article/best-red-handbags so we are totally on-trend. It could be advertorial (I know the whole of Vogue - maybe the Internet is advertorial for CNY and Valentine's) but I think a red bag is a good neutral. Now I have to factor in lipstick, I have to make sure the reds don't clash :D

January Stats

Firstly, at the end of every month, I am thankful that my very sick Mother is still alive-I have seen a lot of her, and intend to maintain this.

It’s been a very fast month, with a day out with my best girlfriend , Paris Haute Couture Week-lots of beautiful gowns, some unwearable pieces of course, only one dress which I would have worn had I been in the market(which I’m not).

Bags in-0, out -0

Footwear-3 in, all All Saints

Jewellery -1 in

Clothes/RTW- 0 in , 3 out.

The January clothing ban was surprisingly easy, made easier by the fact that my girlfriend bought clothes throughout January, and didn’t notice that I didn’t buy any-it gave me a chance to shop my closet.

I will attempt it again in February, but this may be harder as new collections will be coming in.
I’ll also be watching Fall/Winter 2025/26 collections from New York, Milan and London.

Happy February everyone!❤️

I hope everybody is doing well.

I impulse purchased a handbag. Sometimes we mess up and that's okay - we're only human and sometimes we falter, especially when we're under stress. This is me saying that making a mistake doesn't derail the process you've made. It's important to celebrate how far we've come and the places we have yet to be. It's something I'll definitely use ; however, next time I hope I am able to fight the temptation. Be kind to yourselves, please.

At least it's something I'll use... LOL.

lol confession time. I got an SLG.:facepalm:
broke the shopping ban yesterday.

I probably did it because it was bugging me all of last year that I was stuffing my cash into my cardholders and stretching them out.
I told myself, sometime down the line I needed a bigger SLG to hold cash comfortably (but not like a continental wallet, too big).

My Moynat SA knew I was thinking about it so she very kindly held a limited edition lunar new year one for me for a week! (policy is usually 3 days) During this time, I was umming and ahhing about buying it vs breaking my self-imposed ban.
It was also a time I was using a lot cash and it just annoyed me to the point, that I was like fine...I'll get it just because I've been needing it and I don't want to stretch out the beautiful YSL eel cardholder I got over the holidays.
I ended up picking up an SLG that I felt was more practical than the limited edition one. The limited edition one was cute, but I know myself. I do not use what I feel does not work for my purposes or lifestyle.

Besides being annoyed at myself for breaking my ban, very happy with the purchase. I will get a lot of use out of it. And my cardholders can breath a sigh of relief lol.

The ban still stands of course. I will do my best with my remaining self-control lol.

If you needed a wallet so that you didn’t damage your card holders then I would say your ban wasn’t serving you.

So congrats and enjoy!

For me bans are like diets. Enjoy the SLG and don't let it break the 'ban'.

Wonderful first line :hugs:

The first Chanel arrived and I love it. 8 out of 10. I also know I would wear it. HOWEVER!

Last year’s buying binge has really given me a lot of “data” to evaluate what makes me bag happy. I’ve learned there is zero correlation between price or brand and my happiness. My bag joy is based on design, functionality, quality and lack of visible wear.

Some people evaluate cost per wear. That isn’t important to me —> but I’m realizing happiness per dollar does.

So, I’m struggling with this bag which will give me the same “happy level” as some bags for which I only paid 1/10th of the cost. Even if I compare it to my recent LV Blossom tote purchase, it’s still twice that price. But, to be fair, 4 of my 5 most expensive bags are amongst my absolute favorites.

Is this justifiable to my brain? :confused1: I’d love to hear your perspectives. How do you justify spending more on a bag when a less expensive bag down the road possibly may make you just as happy?

I think I may be stress-shopping. I just want to get away.

Bags: in 0 / out 0

0 interest too. Only worn 5 different bags all month (plastic/cloth shopping bags not included). Next month I hope to do better.

SLGs in 2 counting Chanel beauty wood box and silver 'leather' lipstick case / out 0

Shoes/boots in 0 / out 0

Jewellery in 0 / out 0

RTW: in  7 Black single-breasted Saint Laurent Le Smoking (my others are double breasted); wide-leg pants (being altered) to be worn as a suit + striped tee- others vintage Burberry or Aquascutum / out 4 worn out basics + towel. I need to donate at least 3 things tomorrow.

Books: 2 in 6 out

Other accessories in 1 YSL 'made in Japan' sunglasses / out 0

Makeup in 4 lipsticks :faint: out 3 - including one an empty Chanel radiance powder compact

Apart from the ridiculous money spent, no regrets. RTW is nearly all tailoring and everything should work with my existing wardrobe. I love my new sunglasses and lipsticks too. I need to zip up my purse for at least a couple of months.

There a longterm personal style factor in it for me. If I've wanted something for a.long time, it may be expensive and I may not wear it straight away - but it's now mine. That piece can now be used in my wardrobe to complete a look, spice something up or dress it down. Something cute or useful may make me happier but it may not be a sensible acquisition.

I think it's OK, head or heart, preferably both, but never neither :D

Being happy with your purchase and knowing you will get a lot of use out of it should be the goal, rather than an out and out ban. Enjoy your new wallet. I'd love to see it if you are willing.

I'm not the person to ask since I already decided I can be just as happy with a cheaper bag, maybe even happier because of less guilt and less pressure to get my money's worth.

I would keep it….
