2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

Mar. 5: Blue & Indigo (including turquoise & teal)

There aren´t many blue bags in my collection and they are all vintage. You´ve all seen the first 3 before. 40ies small leather handbag, 50ies vinyl clutch, later 60ies vinyl frame bag.

Number 4 is my latest addition, the water buffalo flea market bag. Second half of the 60ies. Sorry, it´s still the old photo. (Meanwhile the bag is cleaned and polished.)

They're all nice but I love the buffalo!

I thought of you yesterday as I polishing a Gucci 1969 patent leather. Oh dear, poor thing, old patent is so temperamental. If it were not such a sentimental piece and magnificent in its heyday I would get rid of it, but I can't. A train wreck can still be beautiful in its own way.

What do you polish patent leather with?

Is it too early to carry a pale pink bag?

I consider pale pink a neutral, so I definitely would not say it is too early !

Taupe unexciting - sacrilege! Just kidding - I know it’s not for everyone but cool taupe is my favorite neutral.
In terms of blue, I tend to gravitate towards dark blues.

Haha I’m with you, I love a taupe. It just goes with everything.

I need your help to be strong guys. I just got offered a Bolide (it's the next bag on my wishlist, followed by the Trim), size 30 (perfect size) but it's cream (instead of black, navy, gray or green/burgundy if I really push the envelope).

My SA and the SM urged me think about it because I don't really do light bags and they said it might be better to wait for the right colour to come along... However, I feel like with Hermes you never know if that might even happen so would hate to not buy this one only for a dark colour to never arrive.

Tldr: Should I continue shopping my closet or take the jump for a cream (not my colour) Bolide 30 (desired size + style) ? Thank you !

Don't do it. You will regret it later. Color transfer will freak you out.

The biggest lesson I've learned is to never settle. And when you're paying H prices, you definitely shouldn't settle. What you want will eventually come around. In the meantime, enjoy your closet. JMO and best of luck with your decision.

Don’t do it. There’s way too much of a difference between cream and the colors you know you want or will wear. Get the bag you want, not the one you settled for.

I love white, off-white and cream bags but if it's not your thing I think you may regret. I am sure a much more suitable colour will come along.

I think I don't have any blue bags any more.

Blue is my favorite color, but that means I'm really really picky about it. And I don't wear navy, partly due to my mother insisting that navy suits me better than black (true, but beside the point) and partly the 80s child in me insisting that things must match and matching navies is traumatizing.

But my Longchamp white Roseau with blue cherry blossoms (someone posted the pink version above - so lovely!) finally sold at full price on VC just as I was about to pull it. Beautiful bag, so not me for so many reasons.

I took a bunch of bags to a non-luxury consignment shop around the corner and they took my Longchamp Neo shopper in a truly depressing mid-blue-gray, but didn't want my navy/black Neo Shopper (bought because the VC description said it was purple and they wouldn't take a return).

I finally took some pieces to the expensive consignment shop downtown and they took my Blue Jean Paris Bombay, though they weren't confident about selling it. And they took the navy/black Shopper I'd carried it down in!

ETA: Sorry to go on about it, but I'm so excited to have thing actually OUT, as opposed to sitting somewhere waiting to go out. And it's a bit my memorial for some very pretty bags that just didn't work out.
