2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

So I was good and bad today, I took out a bag I haven't carried for a long while (Paperchase vinyl Skull-print keep-all - it used to be my martial arts bag but I haven't done martial arts for 8 years). Good.

Found another SLG (black alligator iPad sleeve). Good

I sold lots of bitty 9K jewellery I never wear and even broken bits. Good.

I also bought a thick Harris Tweed vintage jacket in a charity shop. Not too bad.

I bought another Cartier Trinity ring (small - classic 3 colours). A variation I didn't have yet. Very bad

I feel like the good outweighs the bad though. If I put all the jewellery I was never wearing in a heap and added it up then I downsized and only ended-paying £220 ($262) for the new Trinity. I also think the jacket will be good until the weather warms up.

I think I don't have any blue bags any more.

Blue is my favorite color, but that means I'm really really picky about it. And I don't wear navy, partly due to my mother insisting that navy suits me better than black (true, but beside the point) and partly the 80s child in me insisting that things must match and matching navies is traumatizing.

But my Longchamp white Roseau with blue cherry blossoms (someone posted the pink version above - so lovely!) finally sold at full price on VC just as I was about to pull it. Beautiful bag, so not me for so many reasons.

I took a bunch of bags to a non-luxury consignment shop around the corner and they took my Longchamp Neo shopper in a truly depressing mid-blue-gray, but didn't want my navy/black Neo Shopper (bought because the VC description said it was purple and they wouldn't take a return).

I finally took some pieces to the expensive consignment shop downtown and they took my Blue Jean Paris Bombay, though they weren't confident about selling it. And they took the navy/black Shopper I'd carried it down in!

ETA: Sorry to go on about it, but I'm so excited to have thing actually OUT, as opposed to sitting somewhere waiting to go out. And it's a bit my memorial for some very pretty bags that just didn't work out.

Agreed it's very hard to match navies!

Good luck with your Blue Jean Paris Bombay, not one of my favourite colours tbh, but certainly one of my favourite bag styles. I am sure it will sell.

Thank you everyone! I have told my SA I am not taking it. I only have 1 white bag and I only can wear with white clothes, during the summer, when there is 0% chance of rain because I am scared of ruining it (and it was "only" a small city bought in an outlet so nowhere near Hermes prices). The Bolide is honestly too pretty & practical to suffer the same fate. Fingers crossed the right colour comes along.

Well done @FizzyWater on all your sell/consignments ! I agree with matching navy, it's bloody hard so I just don't do it and wing it instead xD

@papertiger I would say very good for the Trinity as it looks like it's going to increase soon! I considered buying one for a long time but would rather focus on bespoke for now (despite the yearly crazy price increase on that collection :/).

Fingers crossed on the Bombay selling. I love the shape (and the lining, omg the lining is so buttery). I even like the color, though it's outside my usual palette. (And it clashes with all my other mid-blues. And with the Paperoles scarf that also clashes with all my mid-blues. How?!?) It's just that it was being used mostly as a travel bag, and it's very heavy and I worried about it being stolen/damaged.

I also consigned a Dogon in the same color, much floppier leather. It's so huge and heavy, and again the problematic color! I might ask for it back when they send the quote, though. It's ofc much less closet space and just feels so luxurious.

I have faith that the right color Bolide will come along. You're open to so many options they must be able to accommodate you.

Thanks re: the consignments. And you're much braver than I on winging it! :D

I was good this week. I bought one shirt for our upcoming Hawaii vacation. Called consignment store to find out what season they are currently accepting and have starting putting together a bag to take next week.

Blue and turquoise bags are my weakness. I decided to showcase my two favorite brands with one from each of them. Hermes Evelyne Bleu Atoll and Louis Vuitton Capucines Turquoise.

Still appreciating this thread as my inspiration!

I have a Dogon too but in Rubis ghw, it's so large I can use it as a clutch on holiday (don't have to carry my keys) plus it has a useful pouch.

So it's interesting about the problematic BJ colour. Rubis is not the best red on me but because it's either inside my bag or not near my face I don't care, it's the red I wish I could wear.

Another one? Cartier in the Uk has gone up 20-30% already. :annoyed:

I need your help to be strong guys. I just got offered a Bolide (it's the next bag on my wishlist, followed by the Trim), size 30 (perfect size) but it's cream (instead of black, navy, gray or green/burgundy if I really push the envelope).

My SA and the SM urged me think about it because I don't really do light bags and they said it might be better to wait for the right colour to come along... However, I feel like with Hermes you never know if that might even happen so would hate to not buy this one only for a dark colour to never arrive.

Tldr: Should I continue shopping my closet or take the jump for a cream (not my colour) Bolide 30 (desired size + style) ? Thank you !
Wait. I don't carry light colored bags, not because I'm afraid I'll ruin them but because they don't go with my wardrobe.

My first gut feeling says don´t settle. This is not a cheap bag. You aren´t keen on the colour.

IMO you did good! Upgrading is the right way.

My vote is wait. With the price of Hermes settling is a bad idea. If the color was close (dark navy instead of black, then maybe. But cream is the opposite of the colors you're wanting. And color transfer on a cream bag... :frown:
