2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

I'm scared of color transfer with the darker colors and the turquoise, and most of my summer clothes are pastels or white. But you're right it probably would look nice with navy.
I try not to mix navy and black idk why but in my mind they don't go together.
Once the kids are back in school I shall have to play around in my closet

I don't think I've ever gotten transfer from my bags onto my clothes, just the other way around - jeans stains on bags.

I feel like this is a dated notion? Maybe 20 years ago? I used to be the same, but… I’m about to turn 51 and my grandmother, who is/was 45 years older than me, would never wear black and navy together. It was an unwritten rule! But I feel like this became a thing maybe eight to 10 years ago? Wearing navy and black together? Around the same time it became acceptable to wear white after Labor Day? Or so my (admittedly not great) memory is telling me!

I think it was probably a bad idea when navy was so dark you couldn't tell it from black except by putting the two colors next to each other. In the Coach forum, we call the navy color of vintage bags "blavy" because they are so dark you can't really tell what color they are. Most navies these days are obviously blue.

I feel a lot more disorganised than most of you.

BV and Bals

I only have one Bag bag (more Nicolas Ghesquière RTW though)
It's the mirrored leather silver Bowler/Bowling from a Holiday collection (Madeline (rag doll) is sitting behind it in the pic) This is like a Kering family bag pic, so take no notice of the SLP/YSL or Gucci

Bal notes:
There are no cooler bags out there, most of the Bag bags I see are on fashion insiders - still, even now.
I like the Hourglass, but I don't really like the 'B' dangle.

I have these and another 2 BVs.
Calf Navy Roma, Nero lamb hobo (used to be called a Knot hobo - now basically a non-woven Jodie) Gunmetal cervo hobo and python Poupre tote.
I also have a woven Ebano tote and very vintage hobo in greens/browns (no idea where the pics have gone).

BV notes:
I think BVs are brilliant for the extremities of my life. Perfect for work (totes) and perfect for holiday (hobos). For me, BV make the quintessential sophisticated work tote, not too formal/stuffy, and also the best hobos.
I don't usually like BVs with any hardware, the gunmetal hw on Roma and the python tote are fine, as it the cute look of the hw on the new Adiamo and all the Knot clutches (which I didn't have) but otherwise I like minimal flash on BV.
Love your bags! I also love the little handmade doll in the photo.

Thank you, it had been my friend's mother's doll, and she gave the doll to me. They (my friend and her mother) were both from Ghana, so I believe Madeline is also from Ghana too. Madeline wore 'pearl' jewellery which fascinated me as a kid. Everyone used to ask me why she was called by a French name, her name was Madeline before I got her so I don't know. I'm guessing because she looked 'fancy' and fashion is associated with France.

I actually gave her away a couple of years ago to someone who collects dolls and studies them from a sociological POV. As you know, I hate letting go of things, One of my little worries is, if I give this away (including bags) will it be taken care of? I had assurances she'll be well taken care of.

What do you do with clothing that is good but doesn't fit your current size? Does it stay in your closet, or do you store it elsewhere?
Great question. Sadly the majority of my clothes don't currently fit bc I have gained about 20-25 lbs in the last 1-2 years. I was extremely thin and probably needed to gain a little weight but I'm upset that I have so many gorgeous clothes just hanging in my closet that I can't wear. I keep them there with hopes they will one day fit again but starting to think that might be a pipe dream. The worst part is I wasted so much money having most things tailored in addition to purchase price (in some cases alterations cost nearly as much as the garment) bc when I was very thin everything I bought was too big. Now I can't squeeze my butt into if my life depended on it :crybaby:

I am in the same boat. I have started working on it , but will never be as thin as I used to be.

As we are slowly approaching fall. I am starting to think about replenishing some things and reorganizing my closet. How do you organize your closet? Mine is by color and type of item.
I love questions like these!

My closet is also arranged by color and type of item.
Skirts - dressy - light to dark, casual - light to dark.
Blouses - each color is arranged light to dark, sleeveless to long sleeve.
Dresses - light to dark (dresses are behind blouses because that part of the closet has the length)
Trousers (anything not blue jeans) - light to dark
Blue jeans - light to dark
Jackets - light to dark
Comfy clothes - light to dark
Shorts - light to dark
Casual shirts - light to dark
Golf clothing - long shirts, sleeveless shirts, skorts

Typing that all out made me think "holy moly - that's a lot!"
