2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

Hermes CDC- black epsom/GHW
It is definitely a statement but I like it! It is heavy for sure for a leather bracelet but in a good way. It feels solid and secure. I get why they are so popular.

I have one in Epsom and another in Box (both black ghw).

I often say I have no Epsom leather SLGs, but if you include fashion jewellery I have. My Epsom is more than 15 yo. That leather is a great choice for a CDC in terms of durability/ longevity.

As we are slowly approaching fall. I am starting to think about replenishing some things and reorganizing my closet. How do you organize your closet? Mine is by color and type of item.

Good point, good reminder.

I still have Summer break to get through and so it's hard to think about Sep yet :D. However, that's when I'll have a little more time to look through things.

Wardrobe: Mostly, I just keep mine the way it is for fear I'll forget where something is.

I'm determined to make more of my more expensive jackets next reason. I've separated them (taken them out from under bigger coat and jackets) and put them into a separate wardrobe. So far that's my only nod to 'good intentions going forward'.

The only changes I always make are changing my bag and scarf rotation. I don't put my scarves away until they're all washed, bags don't get put away until cleaned and reconditioned (or spa'd if that's an option).

Similar to @Purses & Perfumes I have two bags I struggle to style, though I love them. One is my turquoise peekaboo ; I love the color but it sort of feels off with other pastels? Idk can I wear it with very pale peach or pink ?
The other is my navy bag , I feel like when I'm wearing blue ( rarely) or dark denim I rather use a red or burgundy purse for a pop of color. With white, I tend to choose a different bag. And I find it heavy with pastels. So it sits in my closet too often.

I totally get this.

It seems you like your colour-value similar or high.

You could try with light neural (stone, khaki, beige, cream, white, pale grey etc) for a pop (high-contrast) or find some leafy greens, oranges, bright pinks, green-blues/blue greens, tans, strong sherbets or sunny colours for more equal-value colours.

What do you do with clothing that is good but doesn't fit your current size? Does it stay in your closet, or do you store it elsewhere?

Happily, I only only been one size for 20 years. UK 10/ US 6 apart from a few jackets that have had to size up because of shoulders. That means clothes could either be tight or loose but if I lost weight I think I would just enjoy the looser fit. Before I went to uni I was a UK 6/US 2 - that ain't ever gonna happen again

I try never to buy clothes that don't fit me with the hope of slimming down, and if I did, I'd just add a belt or wear loose.

I have just the one BV, my Cabat. I did have a deerskin baseball hobo but it started to show wear very quickly from new (very disappointing- and I’m not rough on bags) so that got the heave-ho, and one another Cabat. Given I don’t use the Cabats much at all these days I kept my favourite of the two.

If you gotta have one BV, this is definitely the one to have :ps:

I feel a lot more disorganised than most of you.

BV and Bals

I only have one Bag bag (more Nicolas Ghesquière RTW though)
It's the mirrored leather silver Bowler/Bowling from a Holiday collection (Madeline (rag doll) is sitting behind it in the pic) This is like a Kering family bag pic, so take no notice of the SLP/YSL or Gucci

Bal notes:
There are no cooler bags out there, most of the Bag bags I see are on fashion insiders - still, even now.
I like the Hourglass, but I don't really like the 'B' dangle.

I have these and another 2 BVs.
Calf Navy Roma, Nero lamb hobo (used to be called a Knot hobo - now basically a non-woven Jodie) Gunmetal cervo hobo and python Poupre tote.
I also have a woven Ebano tote and very vintage hobo in greens/browns (no idea where the pics have gone).

BV notes:
I think BVs are brilliant for the extremities of my life. Perfect for work (totes) and perfect for holiday (hobos). For me, BV make the quintessential sophisticated work tote, not too formal/stuffy, and also the best hobos.
I don't usually like BVs with any hardware, the gunmetal hw on Roma and the python tote are fine, as it the cute look of the hw on the new Adiamo and all the Knot clutches (which I didn't have) but otherwise I like minimal flash on BV.

I think turquoise would looks great with tan/beige or white, or with the right shade of grey; if you wear those colors.

One side of my closet is split (two rails). The top one has my summer shirts, the bottom one my winter shirts. I switch them fall and spring, so the 'current' season is on top, which also gives me a chance to see if any are worn out and need to be removed from the closet. The other side holds my pants/long skirts/dresses.
I sort them by casual/work/dressy.

I looked at it again yesterday and realized it is RGHW. Explains why it was such a steal. At first I was not happy about it, but then said “what the heck!” I know rose gold is trending out, but my skin has a pink undertone, it looks great with white metals, I have some rose gold earrings and my Trinity ring, and it is not a super copper/pink rose gold, which is why I did not immediately pick up on it.

Mostly by type, kind of by color but I have mostly neutrals so there isn't much to put in order honestly.
I have a lot of black, white, gray, and beige with a little blue and green.
I am looking forward to fall and winter in California, my favorite times of the year to wear my clothes!

I usually sell them.
I generally have been the same weight most of my life but I dropped to a very unhealthy weight during the pandemic years (healthcare work + poor work-life balance) and it started to gradually go up in 2022. I've gained weight back and stabilized but there are items unfortunately, while they do fit, they're an uncomfortably tight fit. And I cannot stand wearing uncomfortable clothes unless it's just for a photo and change. (The only thing I'm okay with discomfort is my heels lol.:P)

H rose gold as you say, is very subtle, and gets more subtle as time goes on. It sounds like it's the perfect combo for you.

I would wear a turquoise bag with dark or light neutrals as a fun pop of color. Black, Brown, burgundy, Navy, Dark Green, Beige, or White. If you wear it with pastels, you might feel like an Easter egg

I wear navy bags with black (I like mixing navy with black a lot). But I would also wear it with any of the above dark or light neutrals. I mix my neutrals.

@dcooney4 , I organize by type of item (jackets, pants, tops etc). Then, if it’s one of the main brands I buy,by brand. Then by weight of fabric within that category. But, not by color. I have a lot of dark neutrals and tend not to see some items (like a specific black jacket) if they are in close proximity. Bags are organized by brand, then size, then color
Not organizing specifically by color and type does require you to keep track of your purchases which I like.

Navy/black is a favourite combo of mine too.
