2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

Owing you all an update on the lizard BV Knot clutch:

I went to see it yesterday, optimistic, hoping to take it home.

Although the bag shut and stayed shut, to my dismay, it rattled when closed and had a slight gap all the way round.

It looks like the pin that slides through the hinge was bent at some point. Just felt 'unsafe'.

Otherwise the bag was OK condition and inside clean.

I went to BV straight after with a pic to see if it could be fixed, and they said they'd have to have the bag for a quote (of course). I haven't been in touch with the seller today. Suddenly, I realise why I buy most of my bags new. I wonder if the bag was over-stuffed (?). I don't hear this is a common fault.

Seems like the seller should get it sorted out, not me (?). It was being sold as excellent pre-loved condition, but ahem! I disagree with that description.

All seems like too much work for an extra evening minaudière that I don't really need. The matching bangle/bag thing is what really excited me. Sad, but I don't actually feel that disappointed, it obviously wasn't meant to be.
Disappointing, but you’re right to let this one go.

Thank you! It's a sort of light, summery blue. I am finding though, that as much as I love this color, it gets used very little. It felt like I had to make a special effort to wear this (white cotton summer dress), and find an occasion to wear it. Thinking about whether I should let it go from my collection, but undecided at this
Thank you! I don't have grey jeans, but I do have a buttery yellow summer dress (although it might be more on the yellow side, will have to try it out in front of the mirror). I have a cotton blue and white scarf somewhere. Not a premier brand though -- I need to up my scarf game, ha! Great suggestions, thanks!

It seems like more planning and thought is needed when wearing certain bags. Which brings me to a question for the group --

Do you have a certain bag (or more) in your wardrobe that needs some extra effort in terms of planning an outfit, or even planning an occasion to wear it? Perhaps it's the color, or the leather or even the shape and style of it? Evening bags excluded -- I am talking more about an "everyday" bag. Pictures welcome!
Kelly 35 and Sac 404….cooler weather and a little more put together/elevated outfit required for those. Maybe other people would wear them with super super casual clothes but it doesn’t feel right to me.

That really stinks, but it’s one of those things that would bother you and you would regret buying it after a time. Then you won’t carry it and will have wasted money. There’s another one out there that is meant to be yours, you just haven’t run across it yet…

I agree. Even if it was really cheap it would have been a mistake. I don't know what people do to/with their bags.

Search continues. No hurry.

oh man - what a bummer.
I agree with you - it's the seller's issue to fix not yours...
also - 'okay condition' is NOT 'Excellent pre-loved condition'. Erm - no. :blah:

You did the right thing!

This is a questions about storing my bag collection, not shopping it, but it's probably a dumb question and I feel safe enough in this Thread to ask it. :hugs:

I want my bags out where I can see them, not hidden away in my closet. Can I store them on a bookcase in my home office room (behind me when sitting at my desk, or I'd never get any work done for staring at the bags...) as long as they don't get direct sunlight? Indirect sunlight won't fade the colors / damage the leather, will it? I've left a limited number of bags out for weeks/months at a time as decor with no problems; but I'd be risking most of my collection this time, not just a few bags, so I wanted to double check with you guys.

I keep all mine out on a bookshelf. The way the windows are set up does not shine any direct sunlight anywhere.
I'm the type of person who needs to see all my stuff, otherwise I will forget to use them. It's the same for my clothes, almost all of my garments are hung so I can see them. (Drawers are for socks, underwear, scrubs, pjs, swimwear, etc.) The only exception would be knits, not great to hang them.
Like others have said, dust is an issue. I try to do my best to dust my bags and shelf, though I am not the best.
Seeing all my bags in front of me is a constant reminder to use them and maybe tell me not to have too many lol.

I think if they are out of direct sunlight, in a temperature controlled room with lower/normal humidity, it should be ok. Just make sure to condition them regularly.
Agree. We have a humidifier and air-purifier in our room where my bags are. Since California is so dry, we actually need to add moisture into the air sometimes. We adjust it based on the weather.
Unfortunately when we bought our house, the one thing we did not ask or test out is the ventilation system. The AC sensors are not the best and how the fans blow and air flow is not the best.
And regardless of how high or how long we turn on the stove-top air vents, the smell of food can still get in around the house and upstairs. :hrmm: We have to make sure all doors are closed when we are cooking and to turn all the air purifiers on.
That's one thing I will check for when buying our next house lol.

Similar to @Purses & Perfumes I have two bags I struggle to style, though I love them. One is my turquoise peekaboo ; I love the color but it sort of feels off with other pastels? Idk can I wear it with very pale peach or pink ?
The other is my navy bag , I feel like when I'm wearing blue ( rarely) or dark denim I rather use a red or burgundy purse for a pop of color. With white, I tend to choose a different bag. And I find it heavy with pastels. So it sits in my closet too often.
