2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

There are several more pictures of the same scarf and of other cws on the seasonal (2023 SS) thread! Temptation awaits!
I don‘t have a mod shot of the Sabina Savage yet, but I do of the McQueen:

I am assuming maybe you are not in the US and we have different colorway names here. Is the reverse side of your H Cheval Sirene green? If so, I would LOVE to see a modeling shot. I think that is the one (on website here referred to as Marine / Rose / Jaune) which I am torm between along with the Rose Poudré / Vert / Corail. I am leaning towards the latter as that was what first caught my eye but I keep going back and forth.

Nice! I'll have to check in to that. A d see what my landlord says. Almost undetectable is good.Thank you! :flowers:
I recently tinted one of the windows in my house and it wasn't too expensive. I have vaulted ceilings and while I have custom shades on all other windows, there is a high, oddly shaped window that does not have any covering in my family room. The sun here is so bright and hot and distracting while watching TV (of course the one window I can't cover is in the room with the 86 inch TV and a large sofa where we spend most of our time). Anyway, you can still totally see throug it but it does cut down on the blinding brightness/heat and hopefully would also serve to protect to some extent from UV rays as well.
I am attaching a photo for your reference - they had to do it in 2 sections and if you look at the line in the middle, you can see the tint compared to original (also opened 1 shade so you can see compared to an untinted window below).

Over time, sunlight will fade leather as I recall a sofa in window of a West Elm store I was obsessed with and after I ordered for my garage-turned-game room, the leather was darker than the floor model in store, which they pointed out had faded over time. That of course waas in a storefront full of windows with no coverings for years, but be cautious and maybe don't leave any bag in particular out for too long at a time.

I love that color! So pretty and different for a Chanel bag. I think it would be great with jeans, grey or especially buttery yellow or peach/coral/soft orange. Though with white and a blue and white scarf accent somewhere…*chef’s kiss*
I love these suggestions. I was thinking it might look nice with a lighter blue, or even an aqua or mint color. Also, could look good with light to medium shades of pink or rose and ivory/cream.

ETA: Adding color palette photos. If the blue is how I am picutring in a shade similar to this, here are some samples of what I think will coordinately nicely.

It is indeed!
Cw 03 is Marine/Rose/Jaune

I happen to be wearing it today on the green side.

Wow, I am so torn between that one which offers such a variety of vibrant colors and the one I was originally drawn to. Might need both LOL Thanks for sharing - just my luck you were wearing today

This is a questions about storing my bag collection, not shopping it, but it's probably a dumb question and I feel safe enough in this Thread to ask it. :hugs:

I want my bags out where I can see them, not hidden away in my closet. Can I store them on a bookcase in my home office room (behind me when sitting at my desk, or I'd never get any work done for staring at the bags...) as long as they don't get direct sunlight? Indirect sunlight won't fade the colors / damage the leather, will it? I've left a limited number of bags out for weeks/months at a time as decor with no problems; but I'd be risking most of my collection this time, not just a few bags, so I wanted to double check with you guys.

Some dyes are more stable than others IMO, but I always keep my bags under wraps (dust bags) or occasionally in boxes with ventilation. The sun will bleach eventually, but usually only direct sunlight will be that strong. A few bags in rotation for weeks at a time should be OK. If a bag has got wet I leave out until completely dry, otherwise it's away.

Can't wait to see how this turns out! When I recently did a custom closet in my bedroom along with the smaller "his" closet which is my handbag closet, I was tempted to just turn another room (formerly a den when I bought house before I ripped wall down to make it open to the main entrance/formal dining/formal living room) into my closet and have bags on display along one wall with a place for me to sit and get ready and enjoy them. However, that did not happen and now they are all in this small closet which is already about out of space and don't really get to see them.

I can't speak for how sunlight would impact them and would be concerned as well. I do know that growing up my parents formal living room was huge and had a white sofa we were not allowed to sit on. I laughed years later because it yellowed from sunlight and after being so careful about not letting anyone sit on it, it ended up discolord and damaged anyway. That was fabric not leather.
Thank you! :flowers: My Aunt had that kind of living room as well. Yeah, direct sunlight can damage most fabric, given some time. But since fabric, and leather, furniture that has been in my indirect sunlight filled living room for years doesn't show sun damage, I think it's only direct sun that's really an issue.

While black is darkest, I'm actually a bit less concerned with my black bags, since they are easy enough to use some shoe polish on and get black again (at least for most black leathers). I totally agree that some dyes are more stable than others. I imagine the quality of the dye has even more influence on that than the actual color of the dye. At least, I'd hope higher quality dye would be more stable - all other things being equal.

Owing you all an update on the lizard BV Knot clutch:

I went to see it yesterday, optimistic, hoping to take it home.

Although the bag shut and stayed shut, to my dismay, it rattled when closed and had a slight gap all the way round.

It looks like the pin that slides through the hinge was bent at some point. Just felt 'unsafe'.

Otherwise the bag was OK condition and inside clean.

I went to BV straight after with a pic to see if it could be fixed, and they said they'd have to have the bag for a quote (of course). I haven't been in touch with the seller today. Suddenly, I realise why I buy most of my bags new. I wonder if the bag was over-stuffed (?). I don't hear this is a common fault.

Seems like the seller should get it sorted out, not me (?). It was being sold as excellent pre-loved condition, but ahem! I disagree with that description.

All seems like too much work for an extra evening minaudière that I don't really need. The matching bangle/bag thing is what really excited me. Sad, but I don't actually feel that disappointed, it obviously wasn't meant to be.

I don't wear this bag enough, but always admire it when I do get around to wearing it.
I love the color. I struggle a bit to carry lighter colored bags. I have a pink bag I rarely carry but I love the color. I just bought a light blue bag I love. Yours is such a pretty bag, I hope you wear it more.

Worst bags for sunshine are ironically usually white or natural skins (yellowing). Some natural leathers can also literally tan darker or fade, which is OK if even. I have the problem with my deep turquoise sheepskin, slightly faded on the edges. I think it's also dryness though so I keep feeding it. I shouldn't complain because it's really old, but I just love it.

I like it with dark blue. I hadn't thought of light pink; that's a combination I might experiment with. Pale rose, ivory and cream all sound lovely.

I find that the pastels are not what I call automatic reaches in terms of daily bag selection. I have to think about it a bit, and plan the outfit to make sure there are no color transfer possibilities, for instance. The leather matters too. A sturdy saffiano or epi leather in pastel colors is less concerning in my mind than lambskin (although I find lambskin beautiful).

Light blue is a lovely color. Congrats on your new bag! Thanks for the compliments, and I am hoping to get a few more wears before the summer ends, and hopefully into the fall. I have dark blue blazers and a deep blue winter coat, and the bag goes really well with those colors.

It's a good thing you got a chance to check it out in person before purchasing. This one was clearly not meant to be, but perhaps there will be other Knots; maybe you'll even find the same clutch or similar in excellent condition sometime in the future.

You're right. This one fell through, but at least I know what I'm looking for now and can keep my eyes open  .

I should also start using my existing clutches more too.
