2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

I think regular leather bags would be fine, although they’ll get dusty as others have already said. I wouldn’t leave patent out all the time, though, or white either just to be on the safe side.
My house gets lots of light in every room, and I keep the bags I’m not using in cupboards with the doors closed except for the bag I’m using, and my BV Cabat which is huge, and lives on the surface all the time. It’s metallic and it’s been fine. I don’t keep bags in dust bags - I put tissue in the dust bag and then stuff the bag with the dust bag. That way I can see what’s where easily.
Thank you! :flowers:

There is also a film you can get for your windows to block out harmful UV rays. It’s kind of like sunglasses for your windows and might help cut down on any potential damage. And the tints vary, with the lighter shades being almost undetectable.
Nice! I'll have to check in to that. A d see what my landlord says. Almost undetectable is good.Thank you! :flowers:

I think they'd be fine. I have mine on a bookcase, but most are in dustbags. I think you really only have to be careful about not letting patent leather touch other bags.
Patent leather is a diva! From experience I can say, that it is much better off when stored out in the open (ot touching any other leather) than in a dustbags.
My mustard patent New Lock bag lives on a chair on a pile of clothes and hasn't got any stickier than it already was when I bought it. My patent red New Lock WOC was in its dustbag for a few months and it didn't do it any good. It had turned much stickier than before. No dustbags for patent anymore!

Here are pics. First is the Kelly Dog Extreme in Gold with GHW. Second is the Kelly Dog in a shade of darker red with a hint of pink with PHW. Any help ID’ing the color would be great. Next two shots are the brown/black reversible Behapi Double Tour with GHW. Last is a Hapi 3 in I think Barenia with PHW. I will post a pic when the black CDC with GHW arrives this week.

Good to know! Thank you!

It's gorgeous. What color is it? Hard to tell on my phone if it's blue or black.
Thank you! It's a sort of light, summery blue. I am finding though, that as much as I love this color, it gets used very little. It felt like I had to make a special effort to wear this (white cotton summer dress), and find an occasion to wear it. Thinking about whether I should let it go from my collection, but undecided at this point.

I LOVE the color. I thought it appeared almost like a denim shade of blue but never know how accurate the colors appear on my phone. I have so many bags that are pretty and rarely (or never in many cases) get used, I need to make effort to do so. Good for you for doing so and looks nice with white. For what it's worth, I could see that color working with a number of different outfits!

It's definitely lighter than denim, but it probably looks a little darker in the photo because of the lighting. I love the color too, but I've noticed I tend to baby my lighter colors (other than this, my other light colored bag would be light pink). Thank you, yes, it does look nice with white, and I also have lots of blue clothing in my wardrobe that I could see it going with, although sometimes, some shades of blue clash with each other, rather than harmonizing, so I will have to try on a pairing first to make sure it's harmonious.

I don't wear this bag enough, but always admire it when I do get around to wearing it.
I love that color! So pretty and different for a Chanel bag. I think it would be great with jeans, grey or especially buttery yellow or peach/coral/soft orange. Though with white and a blue and white scarf accent somewhere…*chef’s kiss*

Thank you! I don't have grey jeans, but I do have a buttery yellow summer dress (although it might be more on the yellow side, will have to try it out in front of the mirror). I have a cotton blue and white scarf somewhere. Not a premier brand though -- I need to up my scarf game, ha! Great suggestions, thanks!

It seems like more planning and thought is needed when wearing certain bags. Which brings me to a question for the group --

Do you have a certain bag (or more) in your wardrobe that needs some extra effort in terms of planning an outfit, or even planning an occasion to wear it? Perhaps it's the color, or the leather or even the shape and style of it? Evening bags excluded -- I am talking more about an "everyday" bag. Pictures welcome!

Here it is cleaned and touched up with the chair. It looks so happy and will greet guests, starting with my MIL this weekend. And here is another $60 find I recovered today with $4 worth of fabric. Such a cool chair hanging out with an even cooler bag (from my closet to stay on topic LOL)

Those shoes are TDF!!!! Very sexy in a “two to tango” kind of way!

Turned out great and fits perfectly in your room as does the new chair - love this corner design. You found the perfect spot for it!

June, July & Aug stats:
Bags in: 0
Bags out: 2

I am at my purse peace. Stopped at 15 bags. I have more than I need and I am very happy and contented with my collection.
My bank account is jealous! LOL I keep thinking I am maybe almost somewhere close to purse peace but do not believe such a thing really exisits in my world.

This is a questions about storing my bag collection, not shopping it, but it's probably a dumb question and I feel safe enough in this Thread to ask it. :hugs:

I want my bags out where I can see them, not hidden away in my closet. Can I store them on a bookcase in my home office room (behind me when sitting at my desk, or I'd never get any work done for staring at the bags...) as long as they don't get direct sunlight? Indirect sunlight won't fade the colors / damage the leather, will it? I've left a limited number of bags out for weeks/months at a time as decor with no problems; but I'd be risking most of my collection this time, not just a few bags, so I wanted to double check with you guys.
Can't wait to see how this turns out! When I recently did a custom closet in my bedroom along with the smaller "his" closet which is my handbag closet, I was tempted to just turn another room (formerly a den when I bought house before I ripped wall down to make it open to the main entrance/formal dining/formal living room) into my closet and have bags on display along one wall with a place for me to sit and get ready and enjoy them. However, that did not happen and now they are all in this small closet which is already about out of space and don't really get to see them.

I can't speak for how sunlight would impact them and would be concerned as well. I do know that growing up my parents formal living room was huge and had a white sofa we were not allowed to sit on. I laughed years later because it yellowed from sunlight and after being so careful about not letting anyone sit on it, it ended up discolord and damaged anyway. That was fabric not leather.
