2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

Random related question, since you know so much about all this stuff! Do you have any suggestions on stain removers for fabric? I have a dress with a difficult one. Tried Tide stick and some gentle rubbing, but no go, so I took it to the dry cleaner (the dress is dry clean only anyway). The stains are a bit faded, but still there, and they put two, small holes in my dress, which they did not disclose when I picked up the garment!? One stain is in the front, which is also where the two holes are, so I would really like to get rid of it. I had the dress cleaned the last time I wore it, which was about 3.5 years ago, so I have no idea what it could be. Any suggestions would be most welcome, as I love this dress and want to save it!
I'm really sorry! Unfortunately I can't help you. I usually do not use any cleaning products. Stained garments go right into the washing machine on delicate, no spinning, with dish soap on the stains. I absolutely ignore " dry clean only" labels. Most of the times I get lucky and the garments survive. Most fresh or old stains come out, some need another wash, some don't budge.

If they really bother me, I will try to figure out how to cover them up with some kind of embellishment or embroidery or fabric paint/ printing a design on.

I'm shocked that your drycleaner put holes in your dress and did not disclose the damage. That's not acceptable!

The coat is amazing! I love that you have a tailor's dummy called Olga. I used to have one called Brenda.

I hope all goes well in Paris - you will be the la belle du bal!
Thank you so much!

I have a small army of dress dummies, which all are called "Olga". When my Mum bought me my first dress dummy (a padded, black, traditional one) a friend had a friendly overweight Labrador dog called Olga. Dog and dummy felt exactly the same to embrace.

Haha, Paris is fine, but completely different from my expectations. The weather is a cold and rainy mess. DH has a bad back... No ball! No belle!
My suitcase full of pretty vintage is under the bed and I haven't worn a single piece in last 5 days. Instead I ' ve been constantly wearing the only pair of jeans I luckily panic- added to my luggage at the very last minute, a t- shirt and a black mens suit jacket - the latter bought in the Emmaeus charity shop near the hotel on the first day- together with a belt and a pair of Geox sneakers from the same shop.
Everything I packed but the umbrellas didn't make sense...

Well, nobody will care and I meanwhile am fine with the look.

We don't go fancy places anyway.

For you

Haven’t come across the velvet ones yet.

Vinegar seems too strong. Vinegar is more to strip grease, but it may strip everything it's acid. Try hand washing with delicate washing liquid first.
Aww, great shoes! I have a very similar style of Prada sandals in bronze metallic leather. I bought them in sale in the 90 ies and still love them.

I agree about vinegar being a bit risky and Not the best first attempt. A gentle wash and airing could do the trick. Personally I always use ozone before washing.

Sounds very Parisienne! Enjoy your stay despite the weather (same in London) :winkiss:

July stats (I can't believe it's already August!)

Purses in or out - 1 in and 1 out. Sold the Tory Burch Fleming - a really nice bag with fab leather but it was just a tad small and with the new-to-me vintage Gucci - I knew I wouldn't carry it. I am thinking of listing 3 more bags this year. The new in is a Goyard Plumet crossbody in blue - something I have been thinking that I might need because whenever we travel - I need a small crossbody bag. Just really big enough for my phone, ID, credit card and a tissue... and a dog poo bag just in case. I have two small crossbody bags, but they are big enough for me to get alllll my stuff in them - I wanted something smaller.

Scarves in or out - 3 in (), 0 out. A Sabina Savage shawl, a McQueen moussie (it is stunning) and an H - Cheval Siren.

Books read - 3 - Wicked Appetite (started in February as a light piece of fluff), Mary, An Awakening of Terror (zoiks - scary as heck), and How to Sell a Haunted House (puppets - I don't need to say more ). Still reading A History of the Bible, and just started Sea of Tranquility.

I have a large pile of things to take to St V de Paul, but I haven't made it there yet.
I notice you got the H Cheval Siren scarf. I was going to order this too and was having such a hard time deciding which color to get (Wish I could get all of them lol). Which color did you get?

Would love to see photo along with other scarf you mentioned!

Fell down the H rabbit hole again. Not a bag this time…leather bracelets. I had gone to the boutique to look at and purchase a slim bangle but they are not the right size/shape for me. Saw the cadeau clic and loved it, but not the price tag, so I started looking at preloved bracelets. I always liked the looks of the Behapi and found a triple in brown PHW for a great price. Bought it and loved it! So I got a black/brown GHW for a steal and loved it too! They are so light and comfy, perfect for summer. Well…saw a Kelly Dog in red PHW for a great price too and bought it. Wow, what a stunning design. Waiting for the weather to cool down before wearing it. While I was looking at that one, a Kelly Dog Extreme in Gold/GHW came on the market for under $300…the perfect piece to bring some edge to my conservative Bolide and Museau. Plus if I ever get a Birkin, it would be in Gold. Arrived yesterday and it is gorgeous!

Well…I had seen the CDC and was unsure about the “bondage” qualities of it, plus it is a very expensive bracelet. Started looking at blogs/YouTube videos about them, if people thought they were worth it/satisfied with their purchase/would buy again. Then I watched a video with Colorful Noir, a conservative Asian woman, who was talking about something else but had on a black GHW CDC with a simple crew neck sweater. I had to look more closely to make sure that’s what it was because in the context it just clicked. It read completely different. I had seen one at a great price, with a discount, then I got a coupon. So for $275, I bought it. It was the most expensive of the bracelets.

I think I am done. I need to be done. LOL

Completely relatable, I have enjoyed and still do enjoy Hermes bracelets, multiple styles. Take the time to wear them and enjoy them, show off some pics if you feel up to it. Have fun!

This is a questions about storing my bag collection, not shopping it, but it's probably a dumb question and I feel safe enough in this Thread to ask it. :hugs:

I want my bags out where I can see them, not hidden away in my closet. Can I store them on a bookcase in my home office room (behind me when sitting at my desk, or I'd never get any work done for staring at the bags...) as long as they don't get direct sunlight? Indirect sunlight won't fade the colors / damage the leather, will it? I've left a limited number of bags out for weeks/months at a time as decor with no problems; but I'd be risking most of my collection this time, not just a few bags, so I wanted to double check with you guys.

I don't own any really expensive bags. They are all prescious to me though.

Some are packed away in dustbags, but many are out in the open and of course get indirect sunlight. I haven't noticed any discolouration or damage so far. ( After years)

I think it might be even safer to have them out and visible as you can see anything that happens right away and take action.

How much you love your bags matters so much more than how much you spent on them. That last point is excellent! Thanks!

Not a dumb question at all. I think they should be fine as long as they don't sit under direct sunlight. It would take a very long time for indirect sunlight to fade or damage the leather, IMO. They will collect dust though, unless you are actively rotating them and/or dusting them off. I have mine on the top shelf of my closet and they're currently not in their dust bags. I do pop them back in their dust bags every now and then. There is not much natural light in my closet though. Does your room get a lot of bright natural sunlight from the windows? Even if your room gets a lot of natural light, I still think it would be okay as long as they're not in direct sunlight.

I think they'd be fine. I have mine on a bookcase, but most are in dustbags. I think you really only have to be careful about not letting patent leather touch other bags.

Thank you! :flowers: I will rotate them, since 1/3 to 1/2 will be out at a time. It does get plenty of light, but I am very careful to close the blinds when the sun could be coming directly into the room.

Yours will be more protected than mine..

Mine live in my wardrobes with my clothes, but I use the same one all of the time.
Some are in dust bags, but some just sit there, eventually they’ll get dusty, really I should give them some love.

I think your idea is a good one. I might use mine if they were more visible..
