2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

August 20 - Burberry, Celine

August 27 - Coach, Chanel

July stats:
I think I might have forgotten to post June stats. Anyway, I had one bag in, and two bags out. Carried a fair number of bags, but still not great at rotating, and need to work on that.
Not much luxe shopping on my end, but I have been shopping: it's just replacing stuff like coffee mugs, spoons, kitchen towels and suchlike, after a dishwasher mishap.

Over the summer, I found a box of scarves (not H), cardigans and some other clothing that my mom had stored in a box that we somehow overlooked (we assumed the box contained art supplies). Anyway, because the items have been sitting for a few years in the box unopened, they have a slightly musty smell. I am wondering if a soak in vinegar will revive them? Trying to decide what to do. Any suggestions or ideas are welcome!
(pleased to see in August's Vogue large bags are supposedly returning).
People have been saying this for a while, but mini bags still seem to be ruling the roost! Keeping my fingers crossed we will see big bags coming back over the season.
It looks insane and it probably is, but some of the bags are bags I have been wanting to try but the price point for nylon was stopping me. The 11 bags all together cost me less than my two Oliveve bags. Mz Wallace rarely has sales and does not allow other stores to put their bags on sale more than 15 percent. So when they do 40 to 70 percent off you jump if you are a fan.
Not insane at all. Given that they go so rarely on a big sale, you want to jump on it when they do, and try them on at leisure at home.
Because I'm on AL I'm doing some wardrobe management. Buttons to sew back on etc. I've been looking through shoes in order to edit. So far only one par of clog-boots have made the cut. Found my ombre lizard Prada '00s heals which I am newly in-love with, and actually felt quite comfortable. Heels could be my new (old) thing again. I would like to find my beautiful Prada '00s jewel-encrusted velvet wedge sandals
I need to do wardrobe management too, but my little pile of mending just sits (or grows bigger). I keep telling myself I will watch a nice movie one of these days and do my mending at the same time, but it hasn't happened so far!
Your Prada heels and sandals sound lovely. Would love to see pics when you find them.

Haven’t come across the velvet ones yet.

Vinegar seems too strong. Vinegar is more to strip grease, but it may strip everything it's acid. Try hand washing with delicate washing liquid first.

Ooh, love those heels! And the heel height is perfect!

Thanks, I would dilute the vinegar if I used it, as full strength might be too much for the delicate silks and wool, but will hold off using it for the time being. I will try hand washing, but I have a feeling that might not be enough. Will try airing in the sunshine too.

Thank you :flowers:

What about if you did a low temperature wool/delicate wash in the machine (mine goes down to 20C) and then added a thimble-full of vinegar to the rinse?

Yes, I will try doing that, thanks! The airing in fresh air might be necessary too. I don't have a clothesline in my backyard, but have a portable drying rack that I use for sweaters that I might place in the backyard.

July stats (I can't believe it's already August!)

Purses in or out - 1 in and 1 out. Sold the Tory Burch Fleming - a really nice bag with fab leather but it was just a tad small and with the new-to-me vintage Gucci - I knew I wouldn't carry it. I am thinking of listing 3 more bags this year. The new in is a Goyard Plumet crossbody in blue - something I have been thinking that I might need because whenever we travel - I need a small crossbody bag. Just really big enough for my phone, ID, credit card and a tissue... and a dog poo bag just in case. I have two small crossbody bags, but they are big enough for me to get alllll my stuff in them - I wanted something smaller.

Scarves in or out - 3 in (), 0 out. A Sabina Savage shawl, a McQueen moussie (it is stunning) and an H - Cheval Siren.

Books read - 3 - Wicked Appetite (started in February as a light piece of fluff), Mary, An Awakening of Terror (zoiks - scary as heck), and How to Sell a Haunted House (puppets - I don't need to say more ). Still reading A History of the Bible, and just started Sea of Tranquility.

I have a large pile of things to take to St V de Paul, but I haven't made it there yet.

Loving your new-to-you furniture
Here it is cleaned and touched up with the chair. It looks so happy and will greet guests, starting with my MIL this weekend. And here is another $60 find I recovered today with $4 worth of fabric. Such a cool chair hanging out with an even cooler bag (from my closet to stay on topic LOL)

Those shoes are TDF!!!! Very sexy in a “two to tango” kind of way!

I think airing them out will help a lot. You can also put them in a paper bag with one of those refrigerator boxes of baking soda. The screen they have on it will keep baking soda from getting on your items. Vinegar is too harsh and could make colors run.

Love your bag! Your new chair is so cool -- I have not seen that design before.

Thanks for the baking soda tip! I will start by washing and airing them, and try the baking soda as the next step.
