2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

Here it is cleaned and touched up with the chair. It looks so happy and will greet guests, starting with my MIL this weekend. And here is another $60 find I recovered today with $4 worth of fabric. Such a cool chair hanging out with an even cooler bag (from my closet to stay on topic LOL)

Those shoes are TDF!!!! Very sexy in a “two to tango” kind of way!

If it's still available, next week I am going to look at the BV clutch in person, so there maybe a bag coming in. Meanwhile I've been carrying my Intrecciato 'ball' Cervo Gunmetal hobo (I think @880 has one, perhaps @Vintage Leather too(?)) and Large Navy Roma non-stop (pleased to see in August's Vogue large bags are supposedly returning).

How do you like the Roma? Obviously enough to carry it, but anything unexpected about it? It hits all the buttons of impracticality to me: Open top, divided interior... but for some reason my brain finds the Mini Roma the most beautiful bag ever.

I love that desk! Petite but so practical!

Do you happen to know the name of the style of the corner chair? I have one in that shape but ridiculously ornate.

Take what you need from my review because I have the Large (I needed a large for work)

Overview:
I love my Roma. It's 8 years old. I consider it one of BV's must iconic designs that mixes sophistication, practicality and coolness. I always wanted one and have not regretted it for a moment, even though it may have some aspects that may make it less than perfect. I wouldn't mind a Mini too.

Funny thing is, even though I always count it with my BV total, sometimes I forget about it because my H Garden Party I bought a year or two later took over and had the same function (work tote). Whereas I can carry the GP as a smart shopper, the Roma is a bit more professional. I would consider it the perfect woman's sophisticated work bag.

Style: Looks equally good with a trouser/skirt suit, smart dress or other work wear, but also good for non-meeting days, dressed a bit more casually. I don't feel the need to constantly do it up because the hop-handles pull it shut. I suppose if I had the mini on a strap, I would be more diligent.

Love that no-one knows WTF it is (unless they do). Perfect quiet luxury.

Handles are very comfortable in-hand. Large feels wide on the shoulder but still comfortable. Just have to be careful I don't scrape anything.

Large (38): Doesn't have the strap (unlike the smaller) but does have adjustable handles that even on mid-hole can be used over the shoulder over a light jacket (like a denim) or Tee. I don't alter the handles very much but in the Winder I may make them shorter since I don't carry work totes on my shoulder. I don't like the look of longer handles on a tote so I never use the last hole. The mini has a shoulder strap.

Hardware: The reason I bought mine (gunmetal hw) is because (unlike Gucci) I like my BVs to have minimal hardware. I could never work out why I hesitated, then when the gunmetal hw came along I knew it was perfect.

Leather: Amazingly silky, creamy leather. Feels luscious.

Durability: Needs more care than a cervo. Calf can be scuffed but also fairly refurbish-able too with neutral leather cream. Suede lining is easy to brush out and keep clean. Lighter may pick-up dirt more but it may not show the scuffs so much if you don't like to polish your own. 8 years and no corner wear. I'm not careful with it, but I wouldn't/don't put it on the floor even though it's quite large for my lap.

Storage: When set down it can crease horizontally at the back (where the inside pocket cuts across). A way to get over that is to hang it up with a book in it. The mini may not do that.

Weight/volume: It's NOT light. It has 3 compartments (centre wider). With an iPad, keys, phone, paper notebook, sunnies, folded umbrella and my bits (inside a pouch) it's fairly heavy. At work I need to carry my 'traveling office' (since upper-management turned our communal, but personal desk-space office into a hot-desking table 'experience'. The Roma holds enough and it's organised, but it's not capacious despite 38cm across. Not as heavy as a H 35 Birkin but heavier than a Vache Country H all-heather GP 36

Not a clue. The tag just said “MCM corner chair” and the booth owner was not there to ask. When I took the seat off to recover it, I didn’t see any kind of stamp from the maker.

Wow, that is a lot of insightful detail. Thank you!

It is such a beautiful bag, in all sizes. So unexpectedly prim and proper for a modern bag, but in those luxurious BV leathers and colors. I just feel like I can't justify an open bag for anything but a casual shopping bag, especially if it will be holding electronics. (We've had torrential rain for a month here. I'm glad we're not on fire like half of southern Europe, but...)

I have a silvery grey BV that's more of a briefcase, with a top flap that makes all the difference for my practical brain. And it's gorgeous in its own sake. I really need to carry it more. It feels like too much for my casual workplace, so I usually use my Longchamp Pliage Neos that are pretty waterproof.

Thank you again for your deep analysis. I think I need to concentrate on my budgeting for a bit right now, but when I get a breather I'll give in to one of the Romas.

DH is the one who usually calls me on my crap in this regard. The only good news, if you will, is that he acts more and more like his dad as he ages and, since we both have issues with the other’s parents (I think that’s in the OED under the definition of in-law :P), I guess we’re both headed down similar paths. Oof! Need to get that in check as I do not want to become my mother!
It's absolutely the same here I must admit: I repeat my parents ' behaviour, which covers a wide variety, because Mum and Dad were very different from each other and DH far too often acts like his mother. Of course both of us always found the other's parents difficult.... Haha... Let's say at least I am aware of it....
