2023 Resolution: Shopping my Own Bags and SLG Collection

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

A long standing tradition in this thread is to remind ourselves of how wonderful our own collections are by showcasing them. We can see how far we have come, collection wise, and we reminded that we have all (or most of) what we need making it easier to shop our own closets.

• New theme weeks start each Sunday

• Don’t jump ahead but, if you miss a week, please do show your bags “late”.

• Show bags individually or in a group

• You do NOT have to wear the bags that week

• For added fun, show old pictures from previous years to demonstrate how you have curated it over time.

• This is completely voluntary. There is no pressure to post at any time.

So what are the showcases? In the Fall, we group our bags by makers! Feel free to show bags, small leather goods, or however it is easiest to organize!

I picked up this bag I ordered a little while ago. It is Oliveve in a teal color. So even though I picked up this cutie, I still can’t get the Mz Wallace Large Pippa in Oyster out of my mind. I saw it at Bloomingdales a while ago. It is just a fun funky bag. What stopping me is for the price I could get a leather bag and it is I think a delicate fabric.

What a fun color and an unusual shape!

A couple of pics from last summer…I definitely carry my K32 in rouge H in the summer. I like it with cream/off white dresses too. And last week with denim shorts, white tank top and white Birkenstocks.
Great photos and styling ideas - I appreciate that!
I have 2 burgundy (one is Rouge H) and I'm going to try them both with cream or white - thank you!

June stats.. very belated!

Bags in or out - 0
Scarves in or out - 2 in, 0 out - both ins are :yahoo: - a Samourais CSGM, and a long searched for vintage scarf in the scallop jacquard - La Voliere des Dames

Carried 9 different bags - the Gucci Kelly and the LV Graceful were carried 8 times each... I think they are indeed good additions!
Read 3 books - Fortune Favors the Dead (okay, snappy dialogue), 11/22/63 (second reading, confirmed my dislike of it and it's in the donation pile now), and The Last Year of the War (okay).
We had our granddaughter for the last 10 days of the month - so not a lot got done!

You have great acquisition/hunting skills in finding the exact specs of your long searched for items. :yahoo: Congratulations on your new finds! I love your Gucci Kelly. Lovely to see you and hear your updates! :hugs:

It's fab - I need to lookup the other bag.

I can't get the Saint Laurent SdJ mini Mimosa eel out by head. Practically a brain worm. Sadly because of the dentist, I have no money.

Since this week does not have a theme, how about you show a bag you are interested in?
I have a couple that I'm interested in that I kind of can't stop thinking about lol. (besides my wishlist quota bag)

This Savette bag. I know a lot of people will say it is similar to the Kelly pochette, but I am just not a Kelly girl. I don't know why but I find this design much more appealing than the Kelly pochette, lol. They also come in lizard which look beautiful!

I'm still thinking about the Gucci Jackie. Either in white leather or a white canvas version that I tried on in store but is not on the website.

While I think burgundy is beautiful I never reach for my burgundy bags. I'm thinking of letting them go. I carry true reds more.
I have an issue with burgundy bags too! I love burgundy and wine red colors but whenever I try it in a bag, I just never reach for them. I tried reds as well and have the same problem, sigh...I just admire from afar now

I'm not sure why. It probably doesn't go with a lot of my wardrobe. It is definitely a fall/winter color for me. It is darker than most of the colors I use other than black, and black works better when I want something dark.

I'm torn because I do prefer dark red in the Autumn and Winter, but as an accent colour dark 'ink' colours are totally on-trend with pastels and light neutrals.

I have a BV Poupre (dark red) python tote, a vintage Rouge H Box Bolide  and 1970s vintage jacquard material Lanvin - the materials say dry weather but because they're dark red they're less worrisome in the Summer. I wear with black/white cotton or navy linen and they look right, even in the sunshine.

Love the off-white Jackie 1961, FAB!

Dark red/burgundy/wine are a bit like mid-dark browns (even navy). All of them still have a very 'old school' vibe. I always loved that classic look - but I know they were the colours of my/our grandmothers' wardrobes.

Tale of BV temptation:

I looked at the new Andiamo recently while out shopping with a friend. It really caught my eye, it's got a pretty '60s/70s vintage vibe about it, but  £3.5K, and it's not really a substantial work-horse nor oh so special fancy either. Glad I tried it on for process of elimination.

Made me think about BV though. About 'finishing' my BV collection.

I don't know if you are like me, I like a bag for all/any occasions within my favourite brands. Day/night/casual/travel/shopping/formal/work. Gucci and Hermes totally covered all bases, BV was always missing an evening bag.

I always wanted a Knot clutch and have an opportunity to buy one of the ones I most wanted. Same colour/collection as my silver/ombre lizard bangle, very statement evening, LBD perfect, fun too. It's a good price, but now I'm thinking, where the 'ell am I going to go out carrying something so tiny? Am I collecting for the sake of collecting? Am I buying the bag to match my jewellery?

So far, I have (deep-navy calf Large Roma, Poupre python tote, Cervo woven 'Ball' hobo, 1990s black lamb 'Jodie' (confusingly - formally called the Knot hobo) and very vintage green/brown hobo.

The Knot (expensive - now ridiculous in an exotic) or a (preloved) Lauren are possibly the only BV evening bags I like besides the new Mava (if you can call that an evening bag £2.240). So do I need a BV evening bag?

Do you have your one brand capsule collections or have another collecting strategy?

On and off-topic: Shopping from my own closet: Literally, dug out my Roma recently and have been using it for work. Cross-posting from BV action.

You always wanted one
you have found the specific one you most wanted
it’s a good price

I would seriously consider buying it if I were you (of course dentist bills are much more important though)

Having said that, I personally have sworn off ombré lizard ever since a pair of hardly worn Manolo s discolored on me

As my H SA always says when I 'um' an 'um' over something that fab "you're right, it's too perfect" LOL

It's interesting to note, I've actually walked away from 2 Hermes HGs I'll probably never find again. I mean, seriously, what are the odds of finding a pre-loved BV HG variation of a bag I drove myself mad over (it was sold out in that colour in London and Milan).

I have natural H Ombre Lizard, so I know all too well. They always yellow, can't be helped. This bag is already over-dyed so at least that won't be an issue, or at least it won't show as much.

I will say that the BV knot is small but will hold the essentials (perhaps not your phone)
It works for a summer night dinner out or for any event & feels so good in ones hand.
I would encourage you to rethink about the one you are eyeing. The vintage ones
& limited editions are special, as are the faille done in some really gorgeous colors.
The exotics & lizards done with the hammered corners are unique as well
What is "knot" to love! JMO

So glad you're chiming in, very grateful for your opinion.

I think I sometimes just go off shopping - like a phase. I think I would regret it, it's the price of a scarf at H.

I never really thought about having a one-brand capsule collection, but now that I am reading your post, I can see the allure of this collecting strategy. When I started my bag collection, I had intended to have a capsule collection by picking just one favorite bag from each favorite designer, and keeping the total under 10 bags. Well, that strategy has gone by the wayside long ago!

As for the Knot, they are little works of art. I own a gold one and a chain knot in black, which is a little bigger. I am generally not a clutch/hand-carry only person, preferring a slim chain for a shoulder option, but the beauty of my gold knot won me over. The capacity is tight, but my gold knot is my special occasion bag when I know I won't carry much. It sounds like you've found a special one at a good price. I would get it if it were me. I will add that collecting BV knots can become quite an addiction once you get started. I have resisted it several times, but some of them are just exquisite. Good luck!
