A great alternative is to buy shoes from the outlet for those who don't believe in designer shoe prices! I only have 3 shoes that aren't from Macy's lol: Burberry sandals, Coach ankle boots, and Saint Laurent Mary Janes. The Burberry I bought secondhand for $140 like new (I probably overpaid, but they're from the runway collection and so cute!), and the Saint Laurent for $180 from the YSL outlet. Both totally worth it and way less than the usual $400-$1000+ designer shoe price tag.

That's the kind of thing I'm drawn to. My favorite shoes are my slippers.
Me too. But I can’t wear my Scooby Doo or Hello Kitty slippers out in public.
Premier, I think it has to be Jimmy Choo or Manolo Blahnik. Like you, I LOVE the look of Louboutins, but I just find them unbearably uncomfortable. And their lower heels are just not flattering on me for whatever reason. So it's not a brand for me.

Manolo and Jimmy Choo though? They're gorgeous and comfortable and I have a range of styles from both. I have this one pair of Jimmy Choo heels that's just like walking on clouds, and I wish my whole shoe collection fit like that.

I'm not sure I have much in the contemporary section, but for sub-contemporary, I still like Nine West. I think their latest designs borrow from bigger designers more than I care to support, and the quality on a couple recent purchases hasn't been great, but I have a lot of older shoes from them that have held up well and feel great to wear. I'm actually wearing a pair now. It's kind of a fun take on leopard:

I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but I wear more shoes in heavier, more wintry materials (suede, tweed, felt) and with chunkier heels--I think tall, thin heels can look too spindly paired with a drapey sweater or blazer. I also wear a lot of closed-toe kitten heels. Here are a few I have:

OK, now reading your post and thinking a bit I’d have to say my favorite shoe brands are Jimmy Choo and Nine West.

JC shoes are pretty and so easy to wear. Even the highest heeled shoes are balanced so your weight is well distributed. And, they don’t do the evil pinch your toe thing.

Nine West is just a good all around brand. Not stellar but they get the job done so well. They are cute enough, reasonably price enough, and more comfortable than most.

I’ll also mention that I used to love Coach shoes. Years ago (say 10 - 15 ish years ago) their pumps were well made and so comfy. I tried some on last year and was disappointed to find they changed and weren’t super comfy anymore. I have a pair of booties and a pair of pumps I refuse to give up.

I like the shoes you posted! And I agree on the chunkier heel, darker colors, weightier materials. But, I’m looking for closed in options. Shoes where my instep is also enclosed but still aren’t boots or booties. When I googled it seems senseless and creepers are the go to shoes for casual / flat heel. I’m surprised there aren’t other options. For heeled shoes I’m seeing mostly booties. Or a term I hadn’t heard before - Shooties.

Good suggestion!!! I need to see if there are premier designer outlets near me.

Am I the only one who hates pointy toed shoes? Raise your hand if you think they’re demonic!

I have an average American foot. Size 8.5 M. No bunions or other issues with shape (even my wound site from toe surgery is back to normal size after looking like a cartoon motorcycle side car for a few months). No especially slim heels or ankles. No fallen arches.

Yet most pointy toed heels KILL my feet!!!!!

It sounds goofy to some but, one reason I wanted us to move to a warm weather city was to be able to wear open toed shoes (and no coats, and no hats, and no long underwear and no tights and no scarves) most of the time. Boots are the only closed in pointy heels that I find to be reliably comfy. I think it’s because my leg is held in place so my toes don’t slide forward into a closed in prison. In any case, closed in, pointy toed heels are no go 90% of the time.

Almond toe is so much more reasonable. Round toe is a beautiful thing. Open toe? Hallelujah!

But pointed toe, closed in heels????
:whut: :panic::crybaby: :cursing:

So, I wanna know... I have zero problems wearing non pointy high heels. I walk, run and dance in them while some other people say “Heck no!” and can’t believe I can actually be comfy. (I am)

Well, I’m like that with pointed toe closed in heels. Do I just own feet that say HECK NO while some other angelically blesses souls find them perfectly comfy? I can’t see how. Blind spot + American feet? Or are they suffering for beauty?

I hate pointy toes! Not only are they uncomfortable, but they make your foot look bigger because they have to make the shoe longer to accommodate the point.

And I just said not serviceable / wintry but then I googled and saw these. Don’t they just make you want to snuggle your feet into them? View attachment 4283870
Ooooh, YES! I don't live in a very cold-weather place... it only gets down to the 40s at night here, but the wind does blow off the ocean. But in the winter time I get really, really, REALLY cold. Especially my hands and feet. When I'm in the house, I wear knee socks and then shearling-lined Ugg slippers on top. Hey... it's a look!

These are the slippers... the style name is "Ansley" and they fit like a loafer, including a lightweight sole so they offer a bit of support.

That sounds like a terrific alternative. The Saint Laurent mary janes must be adorable. I wish there was a YSL outlet near me... I'd be stalking those.

What you do with shoes, I do with cashmere sweaters! I absolutely live in cashmere sweaters all winter long (see previous post about my Ugg slippers, lol) so I tend to stock up. But I can't abide really cheap, really thin cashmere. :yucky: It pills in five minutes, it's see-through, and it only lasts for a season, so it's no bargain. On the other hand, I can't abide the high prices of better-quality cashmere either! So I stalk the sales at Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus, Saks, and so on. This time of year, and also in January post-Christmas, there are real bargains to be found.

I was surprised that a pointy pair of shoes I got online was comfortable enough! I risked it because it was cheap and on sale. It's Dune, a contemporary British brand I believe. I thought to myself - a pointy pair does not always bring misery after all! The con is that I sometimes miscalculate the length of the front so I sometimes bump that into the edge of stair steps. Maybe it's finding the right one after all?

I had those but didn't find them comfortable. They are really short height-wise in the toes, so I felt like my toes were being squished down. For slippers, I'm happier in Minnetonka. I used to buy the sheepskin mocs but they wore out quickly. Now I get these: https://www.minnetonkamoccasin.com/women/styles/slippers/sheepskin-ankle-boot-women-1

My dad used to call them Roach Killers because he said you could get to a roach in the corner of. the house.

All of them aren’t horrible. And I just bought 2 pair that are comfy. But, again those are booties and boots. It’s the VERY rare high heeled pointy toes pump that I can stand to be in. So I was wondering. Is it just my feet? Or are women just willing to be miserable. Because they sell like hot cakes!

I don’t like pointy toes and I’m not one of those witches from Roald Dahl’s book. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] Round toes for me all the time. I don’t care for fashion that much. I know I look good enough without having to sacrifice my comfort and safety. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

I don’t know if it’s too quick to recap my year, but since Egg has the new one up and running, I guess it’s time I look back and see what I’ve been doing this year.

My resolution at the beginning of the year

1. Allow one bag per month with a carry-over quota so basically, I allow myself to buy no more than 12 bags this year.

What happened: I bought 10. But this doesn’t include bags I order from MM closing down sale. If I include that, it’ll definitely exceed the quota of 12. I wonder if I should include those coz for me, it feels like a special order coz if it’s not for him closing his business, I won’t order them all now at the same time and will pace them out a bit.

2. Get rid of some old bags I don’t use anymore or repurpose those that I couldn’t let go.

What happened: I did get rid of some bags. I sold some and gave away some. Some are so new I basically just got them. Some have been sitting in my closet for too long I think it’s time for them to go. I don’t keep track of the number. Just know it happened.

3. Exercise a better self-control during trips.

What happened: I had 3 trips abroad this year. I bought quite a lot during the first one. (2 bags and some SLGs) No bag and SLG during the second one. I did get some brooches. [emoji28] That doesn’t count, right? And I got no bag and no SLG during my last trip. Again with a few brooches. But I plan to cull my craziness toward this brooches next year. Hope that Chanel will not release anything cute. [emoji28]

4. Have fun and enjoy my bags.

What happened: I enjoy my bags a lot. Of course, I didn’t get to use all of them. I simply have too many. But I love what I have and enjoy going back to some that I got long long time ago. For example, I was digging through my closet a couple weeks ago trying to find something else and found this tote which I think I bought more than 10 years ago. It’s been a long time since I wore it last time so I changed out of MM citrus Juliet into this bag and has been wearing it since. I find myself still like it and enjoy using it. Somehow it escapes my mind that I have something awesome hiding in my closet coz I have too many and even though I try to keep track, I think I didn’t do a good enough job with the non-premier category. But so far, I have fun and enjoy what I have a lot. Finding this tote again is quite a surprise and a fun thing for me, too. [emoji4]

Overall, I don’t think it’s a bad year for me goal-wise. I went overboard with MM closing sale, but aside from that, everything else is pretty much under the goal.

And this is the tote I’m using now. It has different pattern on the front and back.
