2018 resolution - shopping my own bag and wallet collection. Any one else?

I know what you mean! When I get that urge, I do an on-line crossword puzzle until the feeling passes. I like the Wall Street Journal one (free) and the one in the New York Times (you need to subscribe, but it's not expensive). Don't know if you like puzzles, but this honestly works for me! ;)
This is so funny. I just downloaded a game app (Plato) and it takes up some of the down time when I’m in line waiting, etc.
That organizer sounds perfect! That's my big problem with totes... they are like a big black hole. Did she say where she got it? I've seen a ton of organizers on Etsy (speaking of black holes, LOL! That site is dangerous!) but I've never purchased one.
I think it’s from Cuyana. She’s gong to send me a link. I need to remind her. I’ll share when I get it.
Cute sneakers!! What brand is this pair?

I love your collection!! Such variety!

Organizers also made shopping totes palatable for me. I have my zipped top from Samorga. They customize so you can have one made according to your needs/liking.
I haven’t given serious though to organizers. I carry so little that things don’t get “disorganized” unless I’m carrying a tote or unstructured bag like a hobo.
Do you settle for dupes, or end up buying another bag that looks similar to the bag you originally wanted because you couldn't go for the first one (price too high, sold out, some element just wasn't right)? If you have, have you ended up more happy with the dupe or do you still wish you had gone for the original?

I bought the Dooney Valentina because I wanted a Saint Laurent Sac de Jour so badly, but I'm happy I went for the Dooney! It's still love

On the other hand, I bought a Lanvin Happy because I had thought it would be the perfect Chanel reissue dupe, but I just don't think it sat well when worn and the color was so blah to me. I ended up selling it after owning it for just 4.5 months.
Wow! This a great alternative to the SDJ and a great bag all on its own.

I used to buy alternates (never found a duplicate) and I was NEVER happy. I would always think about the bag I really wanted. For example, I really like the Chanel totes. But I haven’t found one that has the exact specs I want. That is really why I keep waiting. Unless I find something I like more (which I hope I do because the price point on Chanel totes is stupid), I’ll just have to wait. So like @vink, for me it’s either the exact bag I want or I just go without.

My white/off white/cream family

This is enough colour and style variety for me.

The only gleamingly white one is my Mulberry Bayswater. A variation on a classic theme. These are all quite wearable. And all are in really good condition despite the light colours.

The Dior had some stains but it spent 7 weeks in the Dior spa in Italy last year and came back brand new, pristine, in new limited edition dust bag and box with a Dior book. Fantastic customer service! (Or the SAs really liked Mr Dawn who took it to Dior for me. Always a possibility. Everyone makes friends with him )
These are some very pretty soft white bags. I have an ivory and a soft white bag. I really want a pure white bag. I need to keep an eye out.
Sparkle, I don’t get it. What style do you mean? It can’t make that much difference whether you have one top handle or two top handles! Surely what matters is the structured silhouette, to tip it into formal feminine vs more relaxed?

And I would describe the Gucci stirrup handle as more of a hobo rather than a top handle bag?!

If I am following your stream of consciousness then the only bag I have which is not in your lovable satchel category is my Coco Handle. Which is a fabulous silhouette and very wearable. I would highly recommend it. It’s a better capacity and more flexible than both my classic flap and Boy bag (although I love them dearly too).
This is a top handle Gucci Stirrup. Definitely not a hobo. That is the soft version. 89A88693-2B55-48C1-A8E9-30491ACD8559.jpeg
I’m really struggling to describe what I’m thinking of. LOL! But, I’m craving a very structured, semi boxy, arm / hand carry bag though I know they don’t work for me.
Well I had to go back and check the challenges. I did the metallic, did the least worn twice, and most worn once. I was going to do evening / clutches but I really need my big bags right now. It is cold here and I need a bag big enough to add gloves etc. I was going to stuff the gloves in my pockets but it just looks to lumpy. So this challenge will have to wait for me for better weather. What challenge are you doing if any and how is it going?
Finished the most / least expensive. Now I’m working on Festive.

Back to handbags.

I have a craving for a type of bag that I know is a disaster for me. I feel like I need a proper every day satchel / tote in my collection. Something serious and stately like a Birkin, LV Capucines or Burberry Banner that I could arm carry.

But, whenever I buy something like that, I don’t wear it. I’m not “stately” in my personal life. I like fun, small / medium (not mini) shoulder bags. The closest I have to a proper satchel is my YSL sm mono cabas. But it having black hardware makes it a little edgy. And it’s structured but soft so while it looks sophisticated, it doesn’t feel serious.

Do any of you ever get bag cravings that you know won’t work for you? Do you ever give in and just have the “one” of that style you couldn’t resist? Do you wear it?

Yes, all the time! What happens is, I’ll be schlepping a ton of stuff, a tote and a water bottle and groceries, and I’ll see some stylish woman with nothing but a tiny, structured crossbody bag and I’ll just want to switch bodies with her!

Seriously, there are a few bag types I swoon over and need to firmly talk myself out of. The first is the small structured cross-body. (And I do have one — my BV Mini Montebello. It doesn’t get used very frequently but it fills a hole in my bag soul! And I will be carrying it to a cocktail party next week.) Formal-looking hand-carry bags are another — love the look but I know I need a shoulder strap. And deep slouchy bags are a third, although those no longer tempt me like they used to.

I usually don’t buy dupes. I know once I want the original, nothing else will satisfy me. BUT, I do have an Anya Hindmarch Ebury that I’ll probably never get rid of. It is basically that designer’s version of the Prada Galleria tote. The irony is, the Ebury existed first — apparently, it “inspired” the Prada Saf Lux totes. Anyway, I got my Ebury about 5 years ago, partly because the Galleria bags were everywhere and while I loved the style, I wanted something less conspicuous. The Ebury is goatskin and came with two straps — a black one that matches the bag, and a green one for contrast. I love the feel of chèvre over the saffiano leather, although the bag has lost some structure over the years. I wish Anya Hindmarch still made this model — I would have probably gotten another in a different color.

I have used organisers in my bigger bags. I bought them on Amazon last year. I have two felt ones in a medium and large size, which fit several of my bags.
I love how they look, and they keep interiors clean as well. The main benefit is that I don’t like slouchy bags, and these keep the shape of the bag really well. The problem is that they do add weight to the bag.

Here’s an example of one inside my Ferragamo Fiamma and in my Prada Galleria.

You carry multiple bottles of fragrance? I am also a Dune fan!

I've bought a few bags because I saw someone carrying them and decided I wanted to look like that!

I generally swoon over certain colors and have to talk myself out of the bags because the styles don't suit me.

Once I get a style in my head, I can't get it out until I get the bag and try it out. Most of the time, I'll try to find a used one at a bargain so I can resell if it doesn't work out.

I love the look of lady like and dressy bags, but they don't go with my lifestyle. Comfortable mid-sized shoulder bags are what I reach for most of the time.
