I have two weaknesses...
1) I love lady-like bags. The sort of bag Grace Kelly would carry, the darling little bags that I see on Insta from @focusonthefrock. My Miss Alligator is a lady-like bag and so is my new Gucci Padlock. They are terribly impractical for me - I need a bag I can put on my shoulder and get right into - but ohmigosh - how I love them. Like cray cray love. :panic:
(btw Sparkle - you were right about the Padlock - it is smaller and dressier than my Loewe, and not as easy to use…. but I still love it!)
2) Black purses. It's hilarious how much I love them. I'm always looking at them! In the past (as in pre-tPF) I bought them willy nilly and then either wore them to death (I still have a small Coach from the 80's) or discovered I didn't like something about them and then donated them.
I’m so glad you love the Padlock despite it being different from the Loewe!

We have the same passions. An updated, ladylike pocketbook / handbag is exactly what I’m craving. But, I know arm carry drives me crazy.

And, I have to stop myself from getting and wearing black bags. To me getting striking black bags is difficult because they absolutely have to have good design and materials. There is no color to “make” the bag. But when you find one they are irresistible.
Sparkle, you just described my comfort zone. Often in fun colours, which takes away the stately, but this is the style I need for work most days. I have so many structured top handle bags. It’s a style I gravitate to, and I do wear it, but I like having a shoulder strap option to vary with hand carry.
The photos you shared aren’t what I’m thinking of. I know I mentioned the Burberry and I think I’m off on what I have pictured in my mind. Ugh. I struggled to come up with the short list I mentioned and, in hindsight, I think I’m off. I’m thinking of more prim and less practical arm / hand carry, more rigidly structured lady bags. Maybe the Kelly is a better example? Or the Strathberry tote with the one handle and bar. Certainly my frustrating Celine Edge was that sort of bag. Even my Gucci top handle stirrup qualifies. It was big, very structured and only arm / hand carry. (I still think I was in error to sell that bag. But, for 2.5 years, I wore it 4 times. Over that same kind of time period, I’ll wear my favorite bags 60 times. How could I justify keeping it?? Plus it was a PITA when I went out to dinner. It needed its own seat at the table.)

Your bags, however, are in the bullseye of the one of two preferred styles that I own, use and love. What I think of as the “lovable & wearable” satchel / tote. Lol! My Prada’s and YSL are right in line with your bags. And, I love the SDJ. I just haven’t found mine yet. These bags are more accessible than what I’m thinking of. I’m just struggling to describe it.
We celebrate everything too  Here’s a "just because” surprise that was waiting for me when I finished work today
Yay!
And high 5 for celebrating random Thursdays! :ghi5:
I appreciate your input. Only thing keeping me from purchasing is the price. I'd probably have to take a hit of $1-2.5k when I decide to sell it later.

So sorry to hear about your low ball sales. At least you don't have to allocate any time trying to resell them anymore. I'm glad you had better luck with jewellery. My instalment buyer offered to pay the rest before Christmas so I do hope to get at least one bag sold.
My cravings literally get smashed in a second when I figure out certain models just don't fit me but I do have addiction towards white purses and lamb leather besides tan bags which are hearder to smash. White just doesn't work since I hate seeing stains. Lamb is so butterly soft and I do realistically believe it could work in smaller bags but I'll never buy a hollday in lamb again. Lesson learned.
Good luck on getting your bags sold. I’ll say a prayer to the purse gods.

I’d be ok taking that kind of hit if I get at least 3-4 year’s fairly regularly wear out of it. I expect to pay for use and depreciation. I just don’t want my bags’ value plummeting like a rock.

Re: lamb. A larger and larger percentage of my bags is lamb. And I haven't had any issues. Maybe because all my lamb is either Dior (which is ah-ma-zing in its butteriness and durability. I’ve gotten Dior lamb bags soaked in the rain or splattered at dinner and was able to tidy them up like new.) or 10+ year old Chanel (?)

Interesting your thoughts on white bags. I REALLY want to add one to my collection but, I haven’t found one that doesn’t look so... er... WHITE. Too many look like white boxes on the side of someone’s body. I’d like one that has great design and a white leather that isn’t off white but still not blindingly iceberg / paper / burn your retinas white. I now own two not quite white bags - ivory and pale cream. While they are gorgeous. They aren’t substitutions for pure white. What great white bags have your seen / owned?

Gosh. I’m going to say it again. I kinda miss hunting for bags. It’s like I lost a hobby. :-s Buying clothes and shoes isn’t nearly as fun. Only shopping for my house makes me as happy.

I have a list of bags I want but they are unicorn level. I doubt I’ll find any of them any time soon. Especially since I don’t hunt any more.

Wearing my papillon one more day so I can complete the least worn challenge. All the others that had no ticks are at the consignment shop. Next up I will have to wear my clutches .
I did the most / least cost v. worn challenge and completed it. I’ve actually worn my 3 most expensive bags this months so that works. And I wore my least expensive bag - the $25 Aldo evening bag to an event.

I still have to complete the Festive challenge but, it’s still early days in December.

I think I mentioned have 3 BFF’s and we are all VERY different. One is married, an extreme extrovert, is whimsical in her fashion tastes, in her late 20’s with 2 kids under 3. Another is married, prefers fashion to have clean lines with some preppy elements but bold colors like orange and lime, is almost 60 and is as crotchety and anti social as Scrooge’s granddaddy (Lol!). And the 3rd is a year older than me, divorced, no kids and very ethnic / boho in her styling.

Well the 3rd BFF visited me last weekend for my bday. (We had a blast!) We NEVER agree on ANYTHING fashion (or politics or religion or pop culture or men or.... you name it related. Lol!) In fact the only thing we agree on is we both are unnecessarily frugal yet both love diamonds.:no::giggle: Oh and we both love Prince’s music. Ha!

Anyway. She arrived with a really cool functional leather tote from Cuyana. It was zip top and had her initials heat stamped on it. I was floored. This is my friend who is an SVP for a Fortune 500 company but is as likely to wear Birkenstocks to work as she is pumps. :whut: She wouldn’t know (or care to know) Dior from a door stop. Lol!

But, even better than that the tote is she’d bought the best organizer for it. Lightweight with pockets for everything. She cracked up when I went into CSI mode pulling everything out, measuring pockets, and vainly trying it in my (non tote) larger bags. I’m super excited. I’ve been limiting myself to totes with a center zip pocket for organization. This may seem odd to most of you but, I hadn’t seen a good organizer in person. Now with this option, I’m super excited to tote shop.

Fun handbag trivia. Did you know that many times, the costume departments of TV shows and movies will create handbags out of bits of other bags for actors to wear? This way they don’t give free advertisement to brands who don’t pay sponsorship fees

There are people who specialize in handbags for TV. I guess like some people specialize in lighting design or soundtracks. http://dallas.culturemap.com/news/f...welry-tv-shows-dallas-tnt-crazy-ones/#slide=0

The tote carried by the lead actress on The Closer was made up from concepts from Furla and Prada. It was so popular they eventually sold its lookalike on QVCView attachment 4278584
Do you do any bag spotting on TV? Seen anything cool?
Not recently. But I bought a YSL Muse when I saw Robin Wright carrying one in the first season of House of Cards back in 2014 (though she carried the large version, and I bought the small one). She looked so tall, blond, and elegant! I had the (very silly) idea that if I owned a YSL Muse, then I could be tall, blond, and elegant too. :annoyed:

Fortunately, I bought it pre-loved, so it didn't cost me a fortune.

Carried it maybe five times in four years. Sold it this year. Lesson learned!

I know what you mean! When I get that urge, I do an on-line crossword puzzle until the feeling passes. I like the Wall Street Journal one (free) and the one in the New York Times (you need to subscribe, but it's not expensive). Don't know if you like puzzles, but this honestly works for me! ;)

That organizer sounds perfect! That's my big problem with totes... they are like a big black hole. Did she say where she got it? I've seen a ton of organizers on Etsy (speaking of black holes, LOL! That site is dangerous!) but I've never purchased one.

All I've done is take advantage of the holiday sales to stock up on boring consumable things for the house. 20% off and free shipping gets me every time! But it feels good to be stocked up on supplies I would have purchased anyway in the next few months.

I did, however, treat myself to a really cute pair of sneakers, after not buying shoes all year. These were 40% off at Zappos, they only had one pair in my size, and I just thought the stripes on the sides were adorable. Zappos has free shipping and no-questions-asked free returns for 365 days, so I figured I had nothing to lose. Thes are super comfy, and they look very cute with light denim jeans, a white tee, and a pink cardigan.

Cute sneakers!! What brand is this pair?
My bag wardrobe
Tidy bag setup = peace of mind :smartass:

And updated family pictures of what’s inside :hbeat:
I love your collection!! Such variety!

Organizers also made shopping totes palatable for me. I have my zipped top from Samorga. They customize so you can have one made according to your needs/liking.

Back to handbags.

I have a craving for a type of bag that I know is a disaster for me. I feel like I need a proper every day satchel / tote in my collection. Something serious and stately like a Birkin, LV Capucines or Burberry Banner that I could arm carry.

But, whenever I buy something like that, I don’t wear it. I’m not “stately” in my personal life. I like fun, small / medium (not mini) shoulder bags. The closest I have to a proper satchel is my YSL sm mono cabas. But it having black hardware makes it a little edgy. And it’s structured but soft so while it looks sophisticated, it doesn’t feel serious.

Do any of you ever get bag cravings that you know won’t work for you? Do you ever give in and just have the “one” of that style you couldn’t resist? Do you wear it?
Shoulder bags! They look so chic with a bit of slouch and there are so many I love, but now that I'm trying to prioritize back health over fashion, I don't really plan on buying any more totes or shoulder bags. So sad for me - I've always wanted a Liberty London or MCM tote!

Do you settle for dupes, or end up buying another bag that looks similar to the bag you originally wanted because you couldn't go for the first one (price too high, sold out, some element just wasn't right)? If you have, have you ended up more happy with the dupe or do you still wish you had gone for the original?

I bought the Dooney Valentina because I wanted a Saint Laurent Sac de Jour so badly, but I'm happy I went for the Dooney! It's still love

On the other hand, I bought a Lanvin Happy because I had thought it would be the perfect Chanel reissue dupe, but I just don't think it sat well when worn and the color was so blah to me. I ended up selling it after owning it for just 4.5 months.

The sneakers are DVF (Diane von Furstenberg.) I haven’t ever worn this brand before, but they look nicely made. Good padding inside, which is important in a sneaker.

My white/off white/cream family

This is enough colour and style variety for me.

The only gleamingly white one is my Mulberry Bayswater. A variation on a classic theme. These are all quite wearable. And all are in really good condition despite the light colours.

The Dior had some stains but it spent 7 weeks in the Dior spa in Italy last year and came back brand new, pristine, in new limited edition dust bag and box with a Dior book. Fantastic customer service! (Or the SAs really liked Mr Dawn who took it to Dior for me. Always a possibility. Everyone makes friends with him )
