Just sold the Coach strap I bought and never used. (For a huge loss) It was gorgeous. I just realized I have zero desire to change out straps. LOL!
I enjoy browsing the straps. But I also do not use them much.
I’m tempted by deals (who isn’t?) but I just don’t sell bags (or buy preloved*; I like every scratch and sign of usage to be mine!) so whatever I buy is in it for the long haul.
I still buy pre-loved once in a while, but lately I really prefer buying brand new.

Yesterday’s bag - SL tote

Today - AMQ Padlock. The skull padlock itself is a heavy piece of metal, I think why the leather tends to fold on that side

(there is no color variation in the leather; just lighting)

I realized that I have so many blue blouses (short sleeves, sleeveless, long sleeves; cobalt, navy, midnight) and several pairs of grey (light, medium, dark) slacks that I could be in “uniform” for a whole week or more in them. I didn’t want to change bag from yesterday but I also didn’t want to wear the same color combo. So change I did!

I’m still giggling at the idea of your bags quaking in fear in your closet while frantically trying to self repair any errant droopy straps or cavernous openings.
The Gucci Soho Disco is the bag that fanned the flames of my designer bag desires. I remember the exact moment I saw my first one in an airport security line. I was transfixed! LOL!

It’s also the “bag that got away” for me. I probably should have bought one. Enjoy!
It’s good to have built in accountability partners! LOL!

And thank you so much for your compliment on my handbags.
Yay! For your gorgeous Polene.

And, I need to get over my issues on buying more bags. I justified buying in the past because I was selling so many bags. In truth, what I sold - particularly in the last 2-3 years - didn’t come close to covering what I bought but, it “felt” sorta kinda like it. LOL!

So now spending completely new money, even though I can afford what I’m considering is making me a little bonkers.

Add that to only wanting to add bags I love, not wanting to over grow my collection and being more terrified of flipping than I am of a zombie horde and I’m at a bit of a holding spot.

It’s not so bad. My collection is solid and most of my needs are met. But I do have the “itch” for the new. LOL!
Absolutely. But why is this such a tough lesson to learn and remember?

I should mention I found a tote that’s exactly what I’ve been looking for. It’s the YSL Lou Lou. It’s gorgeous, fits every criteria I have...and I’m meh.

This was the bag that put Mr. S over the edge. Saks having a 10% coupon, him with wallet in hand, me staring at exactly what I should want and still balking like it was a poisonous snake. He was so exasperated that he said he was going to march out of the store and buy a $10 back pack so he could carry the extra stuff I claim I need to carry, IF I took a solemn vow to just wear my regular bags and stop with the Great Mystical Jackalope Tote Hunt! DS high fived him and started doing a goofy victory dance. DD and I were laughing so hard we could barely breathe! :roflmfao:

Dear Spark,

Life isn’t always a check list. You can make a list and cross it out once you come to it, but doesn’t mean that everything that fit the list will be perfect. Don’t obsess too much with the list. Get what you love. It’s bag, not how to take a rocket ship off the base or matter of life or death. You take it too seriously with all the thinking and analysis sometimes. Loosen up! You did well for the last couple of years. You sold out lots of junk in your closet and got what you like. Just get what you love and stop analyzing for a while. Have fun. And enjoy the beautiful thing you have and like. And I think you should get that damn black single lamb flap since yesterday.

With love,

So I've been making my way up the east coast on vacation, and back in my hometown, I took my mother to a local antiques mall to browse. What do I find that I've always wanted? A vintage Coach Willis, made in the United States, in navy and in almost new condition! What really blew me away was the price- $17.50 I couldn't believe it! View attachment 4119320

That's nice to be within quota!!

On wallets, I'm actually looking for flat pouches that would serve as my wallet. If it was your Marni Trunk for you, it's my BV Pillow for me. My wallet eats up space inside that small bag! Plus, there is also the weight even if the wallet does not hold much except bills and cards. Debating with myself on a lot of choices for this one.

Ooh! Then I can photograph mine for you to see! [emoji38][emoji38][emoji38] Today when I can! [emoji4]

I have too many white tops, but I’m too lazy to change bags so... [emoji28] I think your bags must be happy it gets to see the world outside the closet. I think my bags have such a sad life sometimes because of my laziness. [emoji28][emoji28][emoji28]

I went to the mall with Mr. S and the kiddos and looked at a couple of bags (recall I’m in my hometown so shopping is not so great.) Nothing excited me.

I was fairly half heartedly considering a bag when Mr. S declared that I should stop considering bags completely. :wtf:

He feels I’m doing this backwards - “hunting” for something to buy vs seeing something I love and then running to buy it. Further, he feels I’m self defeating by being too cheap to buy what I want but having desires and standards that won’t let me easily settle for a “deal”. So, he said I should just let myself buy whatever I truly love (that I will also actively use) and just limit it to a few bags a year so I don’t get freaked out about owning too many bags or get massive, unfounded (Catholic girl) budget guilt.

:whut:

:frown:

:blah:

I declared him a minion of Beelzebub and thought vigorously about burying him to his neck in a fire ant hill.

Ok. So...look. He may be right but, did he
have to call me out like that? :roflmfao:

He asked me what bags I genuinely love right now without any overanalyzing and they are: Chanel black lamb sf jumbo, Fendi pink pearl Mon Tresor, Bal City Edge, Chanel iridescent green M/L, Strathberry green tote, Gucci velvet anything and my unicorn, the black Miss Dior w/ghw.

So then he asked why I wouldn’t get one of those. I said because I neeeeed a black tote. For some reason he doesn’t feel I neeeeed a black tote but some other bag that will function in that way and that searching for a tote doesn’t preclude me from getting something else in the interim. :oh:

Sheesh! Applying logic to bag acquisition??? What is wrong with the man. LOL! I’m going to agree partially, however, I need to sit still. I’ll just admire what you ladies are doing til “the” bag appears. LOL!

I have to say, Mr. S is fabulous! Also, I truly hope he and my DH never meet! :P They make too much sense and call us out when we’re not going about things the absolute best way. Which is good, but also a little disconcerting at times!

I coerced DH into going through my Hermes 90 cm silks yesterday — a true case of be careful what you wish for! First, he said he needed to see ALL the scarves, not just the ones I was thinking of selling. So, one by one, we went through all 16 scarves, both unfolded and laid flat, and worn. Then, he told me to put them all out, folded, so he could see them all together on the guest room bed. Then, as I watched with my mouth open, he quickly organized them by usage and color, and very matter-of-factly said, “OK, so these are the ones you keep and use. These two don’t get worn much but are special so they don’t get sold (this was referring to one holiday-specific scarf and the very first H scarf I ever got). This one goes because if you’re going to wear a scarf with orange, you have this one and this one. This one goes because you don’t like the design and the colors are similar to this one that you do wear. And this one you don’t like the colors on, and this one you never wear. And these two are on the fence for you to decide.”

:wtf:

Wow. Four to be sold, two still to be determined, the rest to keep. Just like that. I was a little stunned, but the thing is, he was right. So, I sent photos of the four to Fashionphile, have two others in the To Decide category, and the rest are back on the shelf in my closet.

It’s kind of funny when we ask our DH’s to pay attention, and it turns out they were paying attention all along — if not to the tiny details of leather and silk, to the larger picture of who we are and what makes our hearts sing.

What a deal! I think I’d be running out of there, clutching the bag to my chest, hoping I’d make it to the door before they changed their minds!

I hope this does not come off the wrong way. I think you are "overanalyzing" because you do not want a repeat of the accumulating frenzy you went through years ago. Some sort of trauma, maybe? But maybe it is also time to enjoy bag shopping. As Mr. Sparkle said, let "the" bag appear. Or, my own is this - let bags you like be in your collection. I no longer think of forever bags when buying. Just lovely bags that I will use for a few years and will enjoy doing so. I consider them sunk cost, so recouping is not a big part of the equation. This is just me.

And maybe, also, you have so many nice pieces already from high end brands (Chanel, Dior to name a few) that your bar has gone up. Maybe it will be H that will truly satisfy you at this point? Though I'm not pushing you really, just thinking out loud. Btw, on your other post about the Lou Lou. I can't recall if I expressed it in this thread, but when I saw that bag IRL I really felt it could be the tote you're looking for. I would like to have that tote for me! So pretty! But aside from the price, it's a bit too flashy for work for me. I want to be able to use my bags for daily wear (i.e., work). Going back, then you said you're meh about it. That made me think that you might have reached your threshold for a certain level of premiere. Maybe you're ready for the next level?

That’s a really good point about considering bags to be sunk costs. Before I joined tPF, I never would have considered selling any bag. And selling can be a good option, if your tastes have changed, or you’re done with a bag, or if you just flat out made a mistake buying something. But. I see so many posts (it seems especially prevalent in the Chanel forum) where people ask about the resale value of this bag vs. that bag. And I think, If you really love the bag, why are you asking about resale? I mean, you haven’t even bought it yet! Not that resale value doesn’t matter at all, but it seems to take the fun out of buying something you love to have to think that analytically right from the start. Just sayin.

Just curious, is the skull padlock removable? In case you wanted less weight or just wanted to put something different on the bag? The leather on both of those bags looks lovely, BTW.

Skull padlock is removable. The key is there at the clochette. Thought about removing it and replacing with a lighter charm. But then again, what is a Padlock bag and a McQueen without a padlock and a skull? The tradeoffs that we face! Lol
