2018 resolution - shopping my own bag and wallet collection. Any one else?

I went to the mall with Mr. S and the kiddos and looked at a couple of bags (recall I’m in my hometown so shopping is not so great.) Nothing excited me.

I was fairly half heartedly considering a bag when Mr. S declared that I should stop considering bags completely. :wtf:

He feels I’m doing this backwards - “hunting” for something to buy vs seeing something I love and then running to buy it. Further, he feels I’m self defeating by being too cheap to buy what I want but having desires and standards that won’t let me easily settle for a “deal”. So, he said I should just let myself buy whatever I truly love (that I will also actively use) and just limit it to a few bags a year so I don’t get freaked out about owning too many bags or get massive, unfounded (Catholic girl) budget guilt.

:whut:

:frown:

:blah:

I declared him a minion of Beelzebub and thought vigorously about burying him to his neck in a fire ant hill.

Ok. So...look. He may be right but, did he
have to call me out like that?

He asked me what bags I genuinely love right now without any overanalyzing and they are: Chanel black lamb sf jumbo, Fendi pink pearl Mon Tresor, Bal City Edge, Chanel iridescent green M/L, Strathberry green tote, Gucci velvet anything and my unicorn, the black Miss Dior w/ghw.

So then he asked why I wouldn’t get one of those. I said because I neeeeed a black tote. For some reason he doesn’t feel I neeeeed a black tote but some other bag that will function in that way and that searching for a tote doesn’t preclude me from getting something else in the interim. :oh:

Sheesh! Applying logic to bag acquisition??? What is wrong with the man. LOL! I’m going to agree partially, however, I need to sit still. I’ll just admire what you ladies are doing til “the” bag appears. LOL!

Happy Monday, everyone!

This week I'm carrying my Hawaii Neverfull.

There are times I get lazy and not accessorize. Today's bag doesn't have a charm on it, I haven't changed SLGs in a couple months either.

I think I'll spend July 4th changing up my SLGs and planning out my charm/tag combinations since I've gotten a few more since in the past few weeks.

What are you all carrying today/for the week?
Yesterday was Canada Day - yay to any Canadians on this thread! We are on vacation, yesterday was a travel day and I carried my Longchamp Le Pliage. Today I’ll be wearing my Gucci Soho Disco for exploring. Have a great week everyone!

I love this! Your DH is awesome! My DH said something similar to me re: jewelry. I was deliberating over whether to buy a necklace, do I need this, am I just attracted to it because it is on sale? He said buy it because you love it first and that it’s a good deal second. You have a wonderful collection of beautiful bags that you use. Anything new would have to be pretty special or serve a gap, as you’ve mentioned previously. Keep enjoying what you have! Best wishes to you and your DH!

Today I'm carrying my Polene (also carried yesterday), I'm really liking it!

I went to the mall with Mr. S and the kiddos and looked at a couple of bags (recall I’m in my hometown so shopping is not so great.) Nothing excited me.

I agree with Mr Sparkle.
You know what you want and what you love - that's what you should be getting.

Yesterday was Canada Day - yay to any Canadians on this thread! We are on vacation, yesterday was a travel day and I carried my Longchamp Le Pliage. Today I’ll be wearing my Gucci Soho Disco for exploring. Have a great week everyone!
I hope you have a marvelous vacation! Have fun!

Yes - I'm thrilled and honestly relieved. Every time I carried it I was annoyed with it - and when every thing fell out at the movie theater Saturday night, I was just 'THAT'S IT! You're outta here!'
Moral of the story for my purses- don't make me angry 'cause I'll sell you. (they're all cowering in the closet now :giggle:)
I had a bunch of offers almost right away - some ridiculously low of course - but one was determined! I mailed it out for authentication this morning, along with a copy of my receipt.
I’m still giggling at the idea of your bags quaking in fear in your closet while frantically trying to self repair any errant droopy straps or cavernous openings.

The Gucci Soho Disco is the bag that fanned the flames of my designer bag desires. I remember the exact moment I saw my first one in an airport security line. I was transfixed! LOL!

It’s also the “bag that got away” for me. I probably should have bought one. Enjoy!
I love this! Your DH is awesome! My DH said something similar to me re: jewelry. I was deliberating over whether to buy a necklace, do I need this, am I just attracted to it because it is on sale? It’s good to have built in accountability partners! LOL!

And thank you so much for your compliment on my handbags.

I agree with Mr Sparkle.

Yay! For your gorgeous Polene.

And, I need to get over my issues on buying more bags. I justified buying in the past because I was selling so many bags. In truth, what I sold - particularly in the last 2-3 years - didn’t come close to covering what I bought but, it “felt” sorta kinda like it. LOL!

So now spending completely new money, even though I can afford what I’m considering is making me a little bonkers.

Add that to only wanting to add bags I love, not wanting to over grow my collection and being more terrified of flipping than I am of a zombie horde and I’m at a bit of a holding spot.

It’s not so bad. My collection is solid and most of my needs are met. But I do have the “itch” for the new. LOL!
Following true love for bag acquisition is a great rule!
Any bag that we are not just gaga over is never going to last...

Absolutely. But why is this such a tough lesson to learn and remember?

I should mention I found a tote that’s exactly what I’ve been looking for. It’s the YSL Lou Lou. It’s gorgeous, fits every criteria I have...and I’m meh.

This was the bag that put Mr. S over the edge. Saks having a 10% coupon, him with wallet in hand, me staring at exactly what I should want and still balking like it was a poisonous snake. He was so exasperated that he said he was going to march out of the store and buy a $10 back pack so he could carry the extra stuff I claim I need to carry, IF I took a solemn vow to just wear my regular bags and stop with the Great Mystical Jackalope Tote Hunt! DS high fived him and started doing a goofy victory dance. DD and I were laughing so hard we could barely breathe! :roflmfao:

I’m tempted by deals (who isn’t?) but I just don’t sell bags (or buy preloved*; I like every scratch and sign of usage to be mine!) so whatever I buy is in it for the long haul.

My rule for bags - it has to make my heart sing

Mr Dawn says he can always tell when I’m about to say “I think I’m buying this one”. He says I stand straighter when I look at myself in the boutique mirror, and it looks natural in my possession, as if it’s already my bag. ** I like that. Me and my bags were meant to be ;)

* the one exception is a Gucci pochette I bought a decade ago, preloved.
** of course, he may just be projecting his own relief when it looks like I’m about to FINALLY make up my mind and get out of the store :graucho:
