Ok. So... :panic: I am loving on a bag like a madwoman. The Valentino Rockstud Spike is killing me! Every time I see a photo I love it more.View attachment 4106905So, I have got to get into a store and see this bag. It’s funny I never liked the shoes. But I adore this bag.

Has anyone seen this in person? I love the way the hand carry strap looks when it’s hand carried and when it’s draped (?) on the top when shoulder carried. It’s such a fun bag.

But my gosh. This has a lot of studs. I tend to stay away from bags with do hickeys because I worry about what happens if one falls off. And now I’m liking this and the Fendi with pearls all over it. Sheesh! LOL! I’m a little concerned because I’d be ready to throw the bag in the trash if a stud fell off. I wouldn’t be able to deal with the missing stud. Do these come with extras???? Anyone have any intel on Valentino after care?

I’d love to buy this in store on sale. Not sure what color though  I don’t want the black or red. I don’t really do beige although it’s nice in this bag because the studs blend in a little more. I saw the green but don’t think this is “my” green bag. Would the metallic be overkill? This is a crazy busy bag. Hmmmm... I’ll try to take a look this weekend.
Every time I see a photo of this bag I do a double-take, and drool a bit. So I know what you mean. (The red is the one that tempts me... but then again, red bags ALWAYS tempt me).

I've never seen it IRL. But I do have the same worry as you, about a stud falling off. Also about whether all those little studs would drill holes in my sweaters, since I wear a sweater nearly every day.

Also, that extra hand carry strap. Although I think I read somewhere that it's removable. It's pretty, but it seems fussy. I think it might get in the way of opening & closing the bag. And since it's studded, if you were to hand-carry with it, wouldn't the studs puncture your palm?

Lastly, I keep worrying that rockstuds are going to look dated in a couple of years, and at that point resale would be a problem. I do own one, but I got it "free" with Nordstrom Notes, and it doesn't have all that many studs on it, so I don't care much if it loses value or if I eventually get sick of it. But if I'd paid full price...

Anyway, that's just one person's rambling thoughts. You may feel completely differently, especially after you see it in the boutique. Will be interested to hear your opinion after this weekend.

I'm so relieved, I got all the visa stuff successfully done for our trip (only half of us have current US passports because my ex is a nightmare). It was looking like getting into the US was going to be hard but it all worked out. Drying all my tears of stress and just thinking about packing now!
So glad that this got resolved, HBG. I can only imagine how stressful it must have been, especially with a nightmare of an ex. :annoyed:
How many people are you packing for? Does it help you to make lists?

I would love the Delices in pink.

But I'm not able to play with only 50% off retail. 90% off and in my most versatile neutral color for my wardrobe was a no brainer.

Funny how you see a lot of bags listed at half off retail but when you search sold listings 80-90% off retail is more the norm, at least for Diors several years old. Which is exactly why I will not be selling my red. To get it sold you have to go so cheap. Not worth it.
I’ve noticed the same thing - many Diors listed for a small discount but solds usually having a 70+% discount except for a very few newer models.

Luckily I adore my Diors and don’t see them EVER leaving my closet (the only bags for which I can say that along with my remaining Chanels). But when I sold Diors in the past, I took losses despite getting them preloved. :-s
The leather was very nice. The chain seemed a bit heavy but it was black so I moved on. I saw it at saks off fifth.
Oooh! Off Fifth? I’ve noticed these can get pretty discounted. I’ve seen 30% off online for several colors / sizes. This is definitely a bag to get on sale.
By the way am I the only one who has a DH who says I should simply never acquire another purse ever?

Just me?
Mr. Sparkle is a ridiculous enabler. Partly because I’m the saver by nature and he’s the spender by nature. So, he knows encouraging me is “safe”. I’ll self regulate waaaaay before anything bothers the budget. And, partly just because he likes seeing me look nice.
I don’t wear uniform. Everybody else have to, but not me. I have one ordered just so if we have to go somewhere as a truly corporate team we’ll get the feel, but I never wear mine. The accounting department send me income sheet to see everyday. So, there’s no illusion that I should have more than they do. Expensive car is not easy to understand since I clearly can afford it while they can’t, although I’m happy with my Camry. People perceive cars as a long term buy. Unless you change it every a couple of months. (I know someone who does that.) Luxe watch? I don’t think anyone will notice unless it’s peppered with diamonds. It’s too small to get notice. Bag is another thing. It’s the item that fashion company tend to promote and put their names on. It’s the most easily recognizable out of the stuff, especially one plastered with logo and gossip magazine will often put the price on for the world to see. This is also part of my preference to keep my life private. I’ve been with some of my colleague for more than 10 years. They’re like a friend or a family. I prefer for them not to know too much about my spending habit. And I also want to be friend or get to know the new hired or young blood (We’re only about 200 people with the majority of women and I like to know them all by name and something about their life and how they work or what they think etc.) and if they put more attention on what I wear or use, then it’s not good. If removing one item out of my work days will help my work become easier, I’m willing to do that.

I think it’s the type of people you spend your time with and also your upbringing as well as your own personality.
I think I miscommunicated. Whoops. When I said wear a “uniform” I didn’t mean it literally. I meant people tend to dress very similarly within an industry. For example - financial services means conservative suits, consumer goods means the casual side of business casual, entertainment means trendy showy fashionable, etc. But I get your point on attire. And, I agree about minding what we wear around colleagues.

I read a thread about the bag. Someone asked if the studs poked when the bag was worn. Owners of the bag said that while the studs are “pointy” they never feels them against their body when worn shoulder / crossbody. And it’s not even a problem for the hand when the bag is a clutch. So I don’t think that’s an issue.

BUT, your point about the rockstuds potentially getting dated over time is a big concern for me. I wanted a Glamlock something like 4-5 years ago and didn’t get one because I worried about the bag getting dated. Now, I feel I missed a window though because Rockstuds are still going strong. Maybe Valentino will be able to innovate enough that rock studs become an expected, trademark element in their bags for decades to come. (?)

Wow, I'm late to the party. I'm just loving rockstuds NOW...

HBG, have a great trip! Sounds like you deserve it!!!
Oh I dunno if I do but I miss my mom so yay!

yay to vacs!!!

Exactly. Not that I'm really wanting to be in Tennessee for 4 weeks but it will be fun to take my teens around to my old haunts from when I was their age.

Yes for 15 years.
Thanks! I'm thrilled to finally get it in my most usable favorite purse color (warm beige/camel) after admiring it in grey and black for nearly a decade. I'm assuming the lambskin will be just as soft as my other 2010 lamb Dior so yes! But I don't have it yet so I can't tell how much I love fondling it yet. In one week I will.
Taler du Svenska? Jag kan forsto litten. Obviously, I can't spell in Swedish. And only understand some of it. :amuse: Suomea?

I actually like the bigger glam rock bag like the one Missie has. I was thinking whether or not I should get it. But they discontinued the bigger size which I was interested even before I made up my mind. I think it’s a very nicely design bag. Edgy while not being too much and has good potential to be classic if the brand don’t discard them like Dior does to their bags every season.

love the larger rock stud as well.

And why in the world does Dior change styles so often???? It’s maddening because I never get a bag the first season. I have to warm up to it and evaluate it.
