In honor of Kate Spade, let’s make this week’s “challenge” to wear KS bags / SLG’s etc. theoigh Sunday if we own them. If we don’t own them but did in the past, feel free to share stories or old pictures of your bags.

Kate Spade used to be one of my favorites brands. I loved the feminine style. I still remember when her bags were mostly nylon. They seemed so expensive to me at the time. So I just admired from afar.

Once I started upgrading my bags I took the plunge. I didn’t get nylon but I bought several leather and straw bags. I was particularly crazy about her bags with bows.

These three bags were the ones that were hardest to let go.

I still love bows and anything else girly. So the first two bags were much loved. The black one was a surprisingly great workhorse. I wore it sooooo often for work View attachment 4090315View attachment 4090316
I recently sold my last KS bag. I think it’s adorable but it wasn’t exactly what I wanted. I still am on the hunt for it’s replacement.View attachment 4090317
What are your favorite KS bags or memories?

Great idea! I have a few. I’ll upload them tonight. [emoji4] [emoji1360]

BTW, I like that First bag. ;)

Thanks for your support ladies! I know most of you do not agree with my refund, but I guess that's the tradeoff for wanting industrial peace, plus it was more blood pressure friendly.

Backpack kind of day!
This is pretty! And leather is gorgeous!
Gucci Animalier Bright shoulder/cross. Great little bag, just enough room for essentials, it has 5 pockets inside all luscious suede, meticulously made. I had it a while before I carried it regularly.

Reminds me of searching for our house, we would ring up the estate agents after just seeing property and they would have gone already, when DH saw our house and he liked it I told him to say YES without me seeing it first. Visited our house 4 years ago wearing this bag.
What a memory attached to the bag! And, wishing your mom speedy recovery.

They're reporting Kate Spade dead of suicide today. [emoji22]

This is extremely sad. It’s a real reminder to hang on to the happiness you have, which is more precious than silver and gold. I want to give all my pocket friends a hug. Let’s be kind and take care of one another.

I have only my Kate Spade Tokyo clutch and the bag charm. The clutch is not too practical this week, but I will carry the bag charm this week for remembrance.

I agree with your decision, msd! It’s a difficult position, both of you being co-workers in the offfice and you being senior to her. It was a small financial cost but you saw her true character. It’s a good thing she works in a different department but in any case you know that she is an unreliable person and try to avoid working with her in future,

Absolutely do what’s best for your health. That’s what I tell myself when I get stressed, i’m only shortening my own life! Better to chill and be calm.

 bless her soul, I am so sorry for this lady's family.

My mother had an operation today so I'm still waiting for her to come round. Life is so precious.

I don't have any KS bags (or her new Line Frances Valentine) so any suggestions of what type of bags I may own that will give a sense of Kate Spade's style I could wear to honour her will be greatly welcomed and I will do my best to make it happen. I'm guessing lady-like, themes, straw.
Best wishes to your mother.

I think one of the most iconic things about Kate Spade is her sense of whimsy. She has her proper fashion lines, but she has so many prints and shapes in her bags and accessories that are fun and playful and comical and whimsical. My lime-in-the-coconut wristlet cracks me up. I think tomorrow I will wear my Janie and one of the wristlets, maybe the lime/coconut one, maybe the black and white polka dot one.

What are your favorite KS bags or memories?

I posted the first picture in the "Show Us Your Kate Spade Bags" January 23, 2013 (which is where I copied the attached picture.) It was one of the few bags that made the move with me from Illinois to California in April, 2014. I still have her and I should pull her out and wear her at least a day in honor of Kate Spade. I just took a picture of the inside. The first memory I'll share was when I was carrying this bag to meet my BFF at Ulta. She thought we were meeting at the Ulta by her house and I thought we were meeting at the Ulta across from Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg. She called me to ask where I was and I told her I was sitting in front of Ulta. She said she was inside. I went inside and didn't see her so I went back out to call her. When I opened my bag to get my phone again a woman stopped in her tracks and said how much she loved the lining of this bag. She wanted to know the name of the bag and I told her Kate Spade and that I had just bought it at the outlet in Aurora. She asked if her friend could come over and see the lining and I said of course. After they left I called my BFF back to tell her I went inside and didn't see her. She said she came outside to meet me and she was standing in front of Ulta. I asked her how she could be doing that since I'm standing in front of Ulta. Finally, she asked me which Ulta was I standing in front of and that's when we realized we were in two different places.

My second memory is Thanksgiving, 2012. I really wanted to win the auction on a red KS agenda. The auction ended late afternoon on Thanksgiving. I remember being at my mom's house surrounded by family and I kept running to the computer to check to see if anyone else placed a bid. I ended up winning the auction and couldn't wait to get the KS 2013 refill and start using my agenda. My winning bid was....$20.49!

Kate had such a whimsical style that made you smile when you carried her bags and accessories. I'm saddened by the news.

One last Kate Spade memory. My first (only) trip to New York City was in August, 2007. My sister and I were staying at a friend's apartment in Chelsea. We walked forever from Chelsea to Kate Spade on Broome St so I could see the attached bag in person. I wasn't sure if I wanted it, I just wanted to see it. When we got to the store they had it on sale but I still wasn't sure. I told the SA thanks for her time and started to leave the store. My sister didn't move and said, "So we walked ALLL the way here so you could LOOK at it? You better buy it!!!!" I think that was the push off the ledge I needed. I carried her for the rest of the trip. It's another bag that made the move to CA with me because of the memories of my NYC trip!

I can't tell you how mad this makes me. There is so little social awareness. Anyway, next time she compliments any bag you have, any time she asks if you have any lovely bags you longer need, don't say thank you and don't say no, say nothing. Silence says so much.

I don't lend anymore (all offers of people wanting to lend me things is just a precursor to "BTW..you know that 'x' you have?."). My Niece may have whatever at the end if its life with me but she better not 'fish'. Even gently used bags, unworn shoes and coats I've given to friends they think is their right to give back years later when they move house or run out of space (we have charity shops here that would greatly receive). I gave my convertible Prada to someone who swore she loved it and it was all she ever dreamt about, next month it was on Ebay - I could have done that myself. People are nuts.

She sold it on Ebay? That’s incredible. Did she think you wouldn’t know she was making a profit off of your gift?

I can sort of understand someone giving a bag back if they’re moving — they may think you might still want it and don’t want to throw it away or give it to someone else and then find out you would have wanted it back. But selling a gift, especially so soon after receiving it? Unbelievable.

I hope your mom is doing OK. You’re right, life is precious. I’ve been realizing my mom is getting older and I need to appreciate her more.

Re. Kate Spade bags, yes, feminine and lady-like, but I also remember them as being a little quirky and whimsical. When her bags first became a hit, me and all my friends were crazy about them. She was the first one I remember to do really fun print linings on bags. I had a structured black fabric small tote bag of hers that I wore a ton, and then gave to my sister after I got tired of it. Also a brown nylon bag with hot pink lining. Her bags were so fresh, something different when every other young woman was carrying Coach. (Not that there’s anything wrong with Coach, it was just so ubiquitous and the KS bags felt really different and new.)

So funny, I just posted about the whimsy and the fun linings, and then read on to find you both beat me to the punch!

Ruedenestle, your story about the agenda reminded me I have one of her agendas — in red no less! I’ve had it for years and don’t really use it anymore, but I hang on to it because it’s so well made and the rare perfect shade of red. I’ll try to remember to take a picture of it tomorrow. KS agenda inserts are really fun and whimsical as well.

I’m mending nicely, thanks for asking. I see the surgeon on Thursday for my 2-week post-op visit, and after that I’m sure he’ll clear me to drive. I’ve been walking every day, which is helping me get my strength back. Still need a lot of rest, but it’s considered major surgery so I’m just going with the flow.

Watching movies, reading, and napping... and of course tPF for online company!

Best of luck with your second surgery.
I’m so glad you’re doing well. You had a serious surgery. Mine are inconveniences. So, please baby yourself. And, maybe get a treat for yourself too. :graucho:

My Kate Spade bag lusts were in college at the end of the nineties, I thought the nylon structured bags with bold floral prints were the height of chic fashion. But still a teenager I couldn't afford them and by the time I got to that point in my life I was just carrying a diaper bag and soon after was bitten by the premiere only bug, and after that the aesthetics didn't fit anymore with my style.
I remember walking in a Kate Spade boutique on Newbury Street in Boston in 2002 and admiring the bags and feeling they were awfully expensive.
