I sold a bag! I brought 3 bags to the office, and 1 has sold. There are interest for the other 2, but just that for the moment. I really did not want to attempt to sell in the office because I don't want to be the BI (bad influence ). But one friend/coworker asked to look at one specific bag so anyway I brought two more. (And this coworker has not made up her mind, it is a different coworker who instantly bought.)

The bag that sold is the Marc Jacobs Box bag. It is a small bag that I tried to use, but I feel like it's not age appropriate for me. And the one who bought it is a younger coworker who is vertically challenged, less than 5ft tall, so the bag looks good on her, even crossbody.

Yay! I think it goes to a good home. [emoji4]

Funny. We are just talking about colors and, today, I did the reverse of what I’ve been doing. I’m wearing pink so I wanted a neutral bag. That got me into my ivory Chanel.

I definitely need neutrals and colors in my bag wardrobe. I can’t be happy with just one or the other.

Question for everyone: if you had to pick only ONE color for your bag(s) in your wardrobe and it couldn’t be the safe choices of black or brown, what would it be?

Shades of blue, especially midnight blue goes well with my wardrobe. But the best to go with it is Pink. Not just any pink, but the light pastel pink always work with my clothes. It pops well against my dark pants, but also blend it nicely at the same time. So, if I were to pick one, the shade of pink would be it, but not other. But if I have to pick the full spectrum of that color, it’d be blue.

And my 2 other bags just sold!! Though on installment terms (that is normally how it is when selling in my office). Good enough for me! I just said bye bye to my red small Longchamp Cuir and blue medium Longchamp Cuir. I think these 2 bags have identity crisis in my collection. They are super nice leather bags, but the style is casual. They didn't normally get worn during office days (except maybe during casual wear Fridays). When I travel, I use the nylon Longchamps. So maybe they are better off with their new owners.

Congratulations! I think you just wonder about these two the other day, right? [emoji4]

Hi @catsinthebag, thank you for your kind words and for your detailed review. You are speaking to my main concern, which is, can I wear it on my shoulder? I know some people can wear it on their shoulder, however, I know it is meant to be carried by hand or in the crook of the elbow - non shoulder carry is the reason why I haven’t purchased this bag yet. I recall my SA showed me a Rouge H Garden Party with Quadrige Lining three years ago and I turned it down back then. I like the contrast stitching on Rouge H, I feel it gives the bag a fresh look. What a brilliant assessment of the Garden Party, thank you.
To compare and contrast, I wore my Louis Vuitton Batignolles Horizontal today. It is lightweight (canvas), has flat straps and fits comfortably on the shoulder. The dimensions are similar to the GP. My BH is an easy, wonderful tote.
I will continue to do my research as I wait for the call - I’ll report back my decision either way.
Thanks catsinthebag!

Ah... I’ve always loved the BH, but never dare to own one. LV logo canvas intimidate me. I only have one long zip up wallet from them (with a special hot air balloon print and turquoise lining from years ago) and get self conscious every time I use it. So, that’s the museum piece for me. [emoji28] I know LV many times offer awesome bag design, but their logo always scare me. And for the leather bag, it’s the price that scare me. [emoji28]

Reactions: More bags
To me it looks casual (even if beautiful leather), but to some maybe not? I just want to share this - I have observed that some people here (my office and maybe even generally around here) equate price to aptness for an occasion, i.e., if a bag is at a certain higher price point, then it is appropriate for more formal events, regardless of the style. Just an observation.

Sometimes, I notice this as well.

CONGRATS on your sales. I know how hard it is for you sell in your market. So yay!!!

It’s interesting that you’ve made this switch (in bold) as I’ve been shifting a little bit from my adamant preference for preowned.

I’ve gotten some amazing preloved deals but slowly switched to buying new. I’m a little wearying of the hunting / authentication / refurb hassle. But, mostly it’s impatience. My collection is finally in a great place. So, when I add, it’s to fill a specific gap. If I want a purple feathered XYZ, I want the purple feathered XYZ now...not when someone else has decided to sell theirs. :-s

Also, when I was still figuring out my collection, I bought preloved to minimize losses on the highly likely chance I may flip the bag. Now, however, I am clear on what I want. 4 of my last 7 adds were brand new and (gasp!) full price. But they’re some of my best ever buys - I’ve worn them a LOT and still love them to pieces! Knowing what I want - and more importantly what I will keep - let’s me buy new because I’m not going to lose money from selling.

So, ideally, I’d buy everything new on sale. The problem is, most of the brands I’m most interested now in don’t have sales.

And, to add to the confusion, the only bags I really want from two of my favorite brands - Chanel and Dior - were made in previous seasons. So I still have to buy them preloved. :shrugs:

Anyone else changing their bag buying approach? Preloved to new? New to preloved? Big to small? Colorful to neutrals? Expensive to reasonably priced? Leather to vegan? Domestic brands to other sources? Change in preferred style? If so, what is the change and why?
I've grown tired of having to have a potential pre-loved purchase authenticated. And this maybe is a small matter for some, but I really want my leather bag to smell of leather when I get it out of the box! With pre-loved bags it is a "surprise" every time. And I also put value to holding a brand new bag, my own, in my hands. I am not saying I will stop buying pre-loved bags. Brand new is just my current preference.

Like you, this may also have something to do on where I am now with my collection. I know I don't have real needs, just wants. So if I'm buying wants, might as well enjoy the purchase.

The other change for me is with style. I didn't use to be attracted to hobos, now I am!! Again, probably because I am fully covered when it comes to handheld totes/satchels. And it is the body hugging hobo that gives a 180 degree different look. So I guess I'm targeting versatility for my collection.

I used to buy what I like. Now, I have to keep reminding myself that I don’t have to own everything I like. It never become a problem until I get older and earn more and can afford to pay more. Plus, I still stress-shop sometimes, which I have to learn to keep a better brake on that. I don’t have problem much with space, but at some point, so many purses lying around overwhelm me. And that why I join this thread.

Yes, they looked at the 2 bags yesterday and just decided to get them today, after asking for payment terms.

Didn't you try the DA and DE prints? (not sure if there is BH in those prints, but my question is more in general terms)

Sometimes when I am lusting after a bag, I repeat that mantra in my head over and over - I don't have to own everything I like!! Some people who are not into bags might smirk at our bag purchasing behavior - too many for them I suppose. But what they don't know is that we struggle!

Thinking about my change in perspective on preloved / new made me go back to my list of “to buys” to see how I plan to source them.

<Side note - I was surprised how outdated my list is. Guess it’s good I waited. I’m not particularly excited about most of what I had on there.>

Going forward, I want mostly new bags. The problem is - nothing out right now is grabbing my attention. I was in the mall last week and didn’t see even one bag that made my heart go pitty pat. The few bags I do like - Loewe puzzle, Celine belt, LV City Steamer, etc, I don’t like enough to buy full price b/c I’d be prone to flipping them. They aren’t “forever” bags for me.

The only new bag that I know I would dearly love and not flip is the Bal City Edge with the longer strap. I want this in black so I need to review my black bags to make sure it would have a good home with me.

Have you ever consider renting those bags over a weekend or a week just to see how it’ll work out for you? It may sound extreme, but I think it’ll suit you. If you like a bag, you can buy it directly from the boutique later. If you don’t like them, it’s just a week and a bit of money. Not a big deal. Not much than a loss you may get if you buy them full price and have to flip them.

Speaking of msd's love of leather smell, my new bag from indie Australian bag maker Pur Jus smells so amazingly leathery. View attachment 4076987View attachment 4076988
The leather is also so amazing to the touch and the prettiest metallic leather I've ever seen. It's called antique pearlized purple and it has such a subtle shimmer and it's such a versatile muted shade . Love it.

That is a cutie! And glad to hear it smells amazing!!

Hello all, I am late to the conversation but wanted to share nevertheless. In my collection, I have two pairs of siblings and several LC LPs. First pair are the Mulberry Bayswaters. The mole grey one was my first premium bag - and then I could not resist the dusty rose one at Bicester Village. Second pair are the H GPs, which answers another question. They are under my most worn bags - always handheld or in the crook of my arm. Under the radar, easy to access, work stuff fits perfectly. And lightweight, which is a problem with the grey Bays, sadly. So I vote for the Garden Party! (And I am certainly the gold / caramel type.)
