She brought too many clothes home and no bag . We are out shopping so she didn't want to lug her backpack.
Lol!

Makes some sense. She can't wear your clothes but she can borrow a bag lol.

Q to all: do u have a soft spot for a particular color or style ?

I'm really weak when it comes to black tote. I've triplets now. Should I sell to eliminate redundancy? Or just keep all and do my best to stop buying more such bag? [emoji15]

I love speedies!!

If you sell one of your triplets, will you end up wanting to replace it? If yes, don't sell. No, then sell and don't get more black totes! [emoji4]

Your triplets are really pretty! If these are the 3 black totes you keep and not add on to, that's a great selection.

Shoulder bags!

I'm thinking about my collection and apart from clutches all my bags have shoulder straps. My one and only top handle is my LV Pont Neuf which i've had for years; I don't think i can buy a top handle bag again except maybe a birkin [emoji6] (if i can afford it, lol).

Thinking about it, it wasn't a conscious effort to stay away from top handle bags; i just naturally gravitated to bags with straps.

As for color i tended to always do black and play safe so i could easily match with my closet. Adding shades of color now [emoji4]

If you love black totes and they work for you i see nothing wrong in sticking to that color/style. The key is enjoying them and if you do i say [emoji1551]

Yes.
Mea culpa
Style - BV hobo (6 in dif colours) and Balenciaga Day (5 in dif colours)

Thanks sooooo much for all the help!!!! :flowers: It really helps to get suggestions, frank opinions, experiences, reviews and pushback. I'm really struggling with this (In a good way I think) because being on this thread has taught me to buy only what I love and buy thoughtfully. So I'm resistant to getting anything that's "ok" and doing it in a rush.

This first world dilemma reminds me to stay proactive about filling gaps before I buying wants. I've known for a while that I needed a black tote but didn't feel like hunting one. I hate this feeling of not having what I need so I'm going to fill the last of my (not so interesting or fun to buy) gaps this year so I can be done with them even though that will put me over my goal. :frown:
@Sparkletastic I am obviously biased on your question. I just traveled with my MJ hobo to Colorado, and found it to be a great travel bag. Although it is now sold out on the Nordstrom website it is listed as weighing 2.1 lbs, and I think this is accurate. Other than my LC Le Pliage's, it's probably one of my lighter bags.

It has a fairly large zippered pocket inside, and 2 slip pockets. My phone is also my only camera, and I had no trouble leaving my phone in one of the slip pockets and getting in and out of the bag. I like the zipper closure for security and in your photo you can see a small snap flap that if undone makes the opening even wider. I find I only have to unsnap this if I carry files to work.

My disclaimers:

I like to travel with a fairly large bag. I have a big sunnies case and will carry DH's sunnies too. I like to be able to fit a sweater, cosmetic bag and water bottle in my bag, along with my other essentials even when walking. On the plane, it had my snacks in it too! [emoji896] If I had any neck or shoulder issues I realize that this wouldn't work.

Although I am petite, I have fairly broad shoulders, and had no problem keeping this bag on my shoulder. I read on another thread that someone had trouble keeping this bag on their shoulder. Something to consider.

I usually am not much of a crossbody bag person, so I am probably in the minority on not using a crossbody for travel.

On this trip I also took my fuchsia Le Pliage to coordinate with some other outfits. I could have easily just brought the MJ though, as this was a very casual trip.

On a trip to Las Vegas I brought my MJ hobo and my H Evelyn TPM (crossbody, [emoji6]) as I needed a smaller bag too.

I am not at all trying to talk you into getting this bag, as I would feel very badly if you bought it and it didn't work for you. I also don't want others to think that I was upset that they didn't think that this was a good bag for travel; I just wanted to give my point of view. [emoji3] I appreciate the sharing of reviews and opinions on this thread!
Thanks for the review! I was hoping you'd weigh in. I definitely need one largeish bag because the weather will vary over the 3 weeks / 7 cities from cool to warm and drizzly to clear. Some days I'll need to carry a wrap, umbrella, water, snack, etc. I love the simplicity of the MJ and think it could be a good carefree bag long term. And, I found a few new ones online.
After posting my first i have found the rest of our gand saying exactly the same things, so i am not alone
Re light and 'lug more', why don't you get a backpack???
It will fit all. Just all.
It's light
it can be packed flat, or used during travel as cabin bag
it's washable (i am talking about normal cloth sports ones)
It will spread the load evenly between both shoulders, so no back pain in the end
it has (usually) tons of compartments and pockes
it will leave your hands free
and then you are free to choose any smaller bag for your GIRLIE needs....
Lightweight - yes!! But, no backpacks as handbags for me. Half the reason I'm getting a new bag (instead of using one I own) is for zip top security. Having a bag on my back would make me a nervous wreck. Plus my girlie style doesn't really work with backpacks as handbags. :-s I'll be wearing sundresses and maxi dresses quite a bit, so a backpack would look out of place.

I am, however, utilizing a utilitarian backpack as my carryon for well organized, handsfree commuting. So, if my always spontaneous DD gets an urge to go climbing / hiking I'm covered. LOL!
Spark,

I don't like any of them honestly. If you must pick one then go with the Dior. At least its premiere. What about your Chanel tote? Its high quality and would work well
I seriously thought about it. The main issue is it doesn't pack flat. The second issue is it has gold hw. To make packing simple, I'm only taking a very limited amount of white gold jewelry and I don't mix metals between bag and outfit.
...and my eyes go straight for the Dior. However, I think Dioritus will kick in and you'll start to look after it and not want to chuck it around etc (that's what would happen to me). You need a bullet-proof bag.

I know you don't like Lonchamp LPs but there is a reason they're so popular. For traveling light, knocking about with and price they are hard to beat. I used to hate them on sight but that's prob because they were waaaay too popular in London and Paris. DH hates them too but I may be coming round because I often need a very strong, waterproof, zip-top bag to carry more precious bags in.

I think you're on the right track with a lightweight dark tote that zips.
I know they are well loved and very popular but, I really hate the look of Longchamps nylon totes. So, I can't make myself buy one. There has to be another option. :noworry:
And I would "chuck" this Dior around. The resale cost is low (Dior resale always plummets), and in my mind it would be a carefree bag. If it landed on an airplane floor, I wouldn't be bothered. I'd just clean it and keep going.
Nothing works for me like splitting the load between a flat cross-body (wallet, phone and tickets) and a larger tote (everything else).
Or what about a pre-loved blk-on-blk Chanel shopping tote for @Sparkletastic ?
I often carry a back-pack when I'm going to the gym/dance class or in Scotland. Whilst great for getting to and from destinations and activities like hill walking, they are otherwise a total nuisance to get things on the go because you have to keep taking them off and putting them on. Public transport is a nightmare with them and they are pretty antisocial unless you're really careful.
LOL! Getting a black Chanel tote is the true solution! But, <insert sheepish grin> um...that's the real reason I've been struggling so much with getting a bag now. I was actually considering this for my treat to me when I get to Europe. There are a few models available now that I love such as this:
Photo courtesy of TPF'r @liz IMG_2922.jpg And, I can get one cheaper in Europe. So I was going to Jedi mind trick myself lie to myself to "justify" full price - which everyone who has ever met me know I despise paying - by chanting continuously that it's on sale v the US.
During my last trip where I knew we would be doing a lot of touristy stuff, I prepared and bought the MbMJ crossbody specifically. But when there, turned out I was more comfortable with my Longchamp Le Pliage LLH nylon and my Longchamp medium Neo tote. So they got more use.
I remembered this and honestly, you were my inspiration for thoughtful preparation for this trip. I think the crossbody + larger bag option is the best. My LV will be my crossbody. At some point I have to not be overly paranoid about theft. Plus I can use it without a strap as a clutch for dressy evenings in Monaco, etc.

But I think I'll find the same thing you did. The larger bag will get a lot of use because I'll need to carry stuff. So, I have to find this unicorn and like it. Sigh. I dunno. Maybe I should make a beeline to Chanel the first day and buy the tote I want. LOL! It would be my luck though that I wouldn't like anything in stock and then be left to wander the streets the rest of my vacation carrying a plastic WalMart grocery bag.

BTW - in case anyone is looking for a packable duffle for travel, I'm buying this to hold anything DD & I buy on the trip. Its a Tumi "just in case" duffle. It's very inexpensive but has great reviews and packs away to nothing. I'm a pink loving girl but I could see it getting scruffy looking. So I may just get boring black IMG_3146.jpgIMG_3145.jpg

I don't and that's a problem. Getting bags out for color weeks has definitely opened my mind. How dumb is it to have bags you forgot you even had. I started today and took out 8 bags that I am going to get rid of some way.
I think many of us have been there. LOL! When I started my overhaul I was pulling out bags that I not only forgot but wondered which of my multiple personalities bought that thing. LOL!
I have a list of my bags that is use for counting wear. Then, every year, I get rid of what I don't wear. Maybe that could help?

Did you find there were certain brands, styles or colors you are getting rid of? My first wave of "rejects" were a lot of tacky, gaudy bags. I'm ashamed to admit I owned some of them. My taste was only in my mouth. LOL!
My dd came to visit and wanted to borrow a bag. I had my Gucci tote loaded and ready to go. She asked if she could use it but I said no pick something else. She said none of those weird bags with the pleats, no chains and no super soft leather that she would be afraid of scratching. She looked at quite a few of my bags and said don't you have any normal bags. She finally settled on a pebbled leather coach. Wow never realized I had such a eccelectic collection of bags. Dd can be tough.
Weird bags with pleats? What bags are those??? LOL! I'm envisioning you carrying bag wearing a pleated skirt. I think you have a range of interesting, classy bags that are fairly conservative. No Moschino plastic floaty bags or studded patent leather clutches with flames printed on them.
DD's are hilarious. Mine either loves or despises my bags. She thinks my Celine is for old ladies who sit around and gossip, the turquoise Gucci is for grandmas retired in Florida, my Jimmy Choo hobo is busy / tacky / floppy and she won't even acknowledge the existence of the burgundy Gucci I just bought.

I am a sucker for colorful flap bags. But I realized I have to stop buying them because they aren't as practical as some other styles and I can rarely wear them to work.

I don't think buying multiples is ever an issue unless you don't wear them. When something works, why switch out into something that may not? And you picked a very wearable and useful style to love.

If you wear all of these totes then keep them. If not, sell the one you don't use as these are similar in style. Perhaps you can even put the proceeds towards another black tote with a different in style for variety.

Quick question should I be worried if I found a chip in the hardware on the new bag? I popped over to the coach section and it seems to be an issue. Not sure if once I start using it if it will happen more.
I haven't had any hardware to chip yet. Is it somewhere noticeable? If it was on a lobster claw connector on the strap it would bother me. If it was on one of the bag's feet, I wouldn't care. I saw that you went to the store to exchange and it was crowded.
Is it possible to order this online and then return the one you have to the store? Or, you could call the customer service number to see if this is a known issue? I hope this gets resolved.
Lol. Ahem I feel like a "drug" (bag) addict. Always looking for the next fix [emoji52] there are so many many many bags that I caught myself thinking "I wish I can buy it" every day. I just went shopping and it's probably strange but I'm proud I didn't buy another bag [emoji28]. I wanted to go LV but stopped myself. I bought workout attire and chocolate for friends and family instead [emoji515][emoji320]
Congrats on your self control! It is hard sometimes. So good job.
I try to keep a list of what I want so I don't get sidetracked with impulse buys. It doesn't always work but it certainly helps!!!

Not really so much a style or color that I forgot about, I think it was more ....oh this is kind of cute. Then probably wore 1 or 2 times, then put away and forgot about. I need to love a bag, and lust after it for some time before I buy anything else. I am, and have been lusting over a Gucci bag. I have no store close to see it, try it on, see what fits in it and how it fits, so.....I'm going to continue lusting until I travel and can see it or until my lust for it just can't stand another day without it, and I'm not there yet. I want to clean house first anyway. Lol @ which personality bought it! I Can relate....oh, it's cute, let's buy it and never use it. There will be no more of that and that's a promise I made to myself.
