I just sold a piece of luggage that has patent leather trim. It has some scuffs that while pictured & disclosed were still unsightly. I just didn't want to send it this way if I could avoid it. So, I googled solutions and guess what? Toothpaste removes scuffs! Then you can buff with vegetable oil. This actually worked. So now I'm very happy because I'm sending the buyer a product better than shown.

This is the second time toothpaste has come to my rescue. I was wearing some silver jewelry for one of my overseas trips and noticed a piece I'd packed was very tarnished. I googled options and used toothpaste to polish it to an amazing shine.

I love these home remedies!! Sometimes I need solutions and don't want to / don't have the ability to hunt down a specific commercial product.

A quick question ladies. I need your opinion. With all the blingy bag leather straps available in the market now, will you mix metals? I see some cute Kate Spade leather straps now, but they all come with light yellow gold hardware. But the bags I am intending to use them on have silver. Do you think it's okay to mix?

Here is a sample:

MD,

I love the strap and tassels. I'm not sure about mixing metals as I struggle with this all the time. My sissy tells me everything doesn't have to match but idk.

Do they look good together? I don't care for minor details in some cases if the result goes well together. If the result is marvelous, get them. [emoji6]

This is one area where I can't get comfortable with mixing. It's an issue because I took am a silver hardware person!

Welcome, QF! We're glad to have you! It sounds like you've thought through your goals and know what you want. So you should be very successful!

I'm also looking for a carefree / throw around bag so please share your ideas. :amuse:

Thank you Sparkle! I really appreciate the support and input of others who are trying to reach certain goals here.

Re the throw-around bag, I think for Tanzania I am going to need something very, very basic. I will be sleeping on mud floors half the time and on safari the other half.

Gorgeous, and suits the toolbox brilliantly. I'll check out Prune Noir  thanks QF

Thank you! Yes, check it out if you can - these kinds of colors look best in Swift IMO, but I have only seen Prunoir in Togo <3 BTW I saw your post about getting caught in the rain with box calf. It has happened to me a fair amount and I THINK if you wipe it off quickly it is fine....so far so good anyway and my bags aren't treated :)
That said, in rain I will now take Barenia on which, amazingly, water has zero effect.

Love this color!

What a stunning bag, QF! Prune is such a deep rich color.

Thank you both! :flowers: I should really let this bag go to help fund a Kelly in a great color, but I too just love the Prune in Swift and the funky Toolbox shape. I actually think I prefer Prune to Raisin.

I am really in love with this bag! I have been obsessed since I saw a previous post of yours [emoji173]
Thank you!! I was obsessed with it when it was for sale and stalked it for weeks before giving in. It also converted me to a huge Swift leather fan.

Your prune toolbox is lovely with your scarf. :girlsigh:

Thank you :) It's a men's scarf I bought for DH and then "borrowed" so much he got the black version! It's also Prune so they are meant to be together....

Your trip sounds amazing! You have to share details when you return!

And, yes. Something very basic and durable would work best. Are you thinking crossbody? Backpack?

I like the toolbox shape!
What's the inside like? I've never seen someone open it lol

What a helpful tip, and I must say that I commend you on being a very considerate seller!

This is interesting. What causes the spots and stains on barenia then? Oils?
I LOVE swift. The texture is luscious.

Hi Nicole!
I'm curious (and don't know a lot about Hermes) why is your gold Kelly not insta worthy? Could it be brought back to life with a spa visit or is it they style / leather that you aren't enamored with?

Hi! [emoji4]
I have this thread in my subscribed threads because every time it pops to the top of my feed I get a jolt reminding me to put away the credit card and use what I have!
My Kelly is actually in good condition, and it was my first B/K, but I was not thinking long term when I purchased it. It is a great bag and very practical. My Insta comment was kind of a joke; it's not a hot color right now, nor a hot size with the small bag trend and clemence is more of a casual leather. I bought it thinking if I had one H bag it would be perfect, a large enough size for me and a neutral color. Of course I did not stop at one, so maybe it feels a bit redundant and I don't reach for it. If I could do it again, I would wait for a slightly smaller kelly with a delicious color/less casual leather that would have its own purpose (looking really cute) and save the larger size for practicality, which for me is a tote. On the plus side, I have enough cute bags, enough dressy bags and one really nice new tote that I love (and the leather baggu that I also love, though it's on the other end of the tote spectrum).
If money were no object, I would give away/sell 4 bags: Kelly 35, the GST, vintage Constance, LV empreinte citadine GM (I love this bag for long plane flights but the straps are so painful when the bag is overloaded with everything)...and I would buy a Kelly 28 or 32 in a halfway stiff/halfway soft leather, a great leather well-made plane carry on that has comfortable straps, same specs huge work tote without a big logo on it, and a leather cross body baby bag that is medium size and which I could use for myself later on.
It was so helpful to think that through!
Now I know what I have to get rid of.
I have been looking for the 2 perfect leather totes and the cross body nice leather baby bag for so long with not much success.
I think my lesson finally learned is that I should not buy anything that is "almost" what I want, because then I will not be happy with it.

Thanks for explaining. Hermes is a "black box" to me so every bit of insight helps. I thought gold was a classic "always in" color for H. Shows what I know. LOL!

And you did some important thinking here! You figured out what you need to do and now you're more clear. I find talking on this thread really helps me think things through. So feel free to jump in any any time with any thoughts.

You also have come to a conclusion it took me yeeeeeaaaaarrrs to get (and I can still go rogue and make a silly decision if I'm not careful) No compromise / almost bags! Never! Not for any reason! It's better to struggle with the gap in our closets - even for a couple of years - than get a filler bag.

So kudos! You're a smart cookie.

I have one purple bag, nothing in pink though. With apologies to anyone who's fed up of me posting it - raisin bolide. This shade definitely looks redish in some lights to me, and is a very wearable purple, it seems to adapt to whatever I'm wearing  It looks different in these two photos but they were both taken just now.
