I think you should! She is such a pretty color.

Is it that the material or the color isn't working for you for winter. Because I think this bag would look fabulous with colors like black or chocolate in the winter.
Spark,

I always think of it as my summer bag for some reason. I wear it with orange, pinks and yellows, so I naturally in my mind put it with summer. Also the issue is that because I have colored Flaps in my base colors they all look well with my summer wardrobe. It then becomes which looks best and normally my pink flap wins. I will try with darker colors and see how it goes

On the topic of aubergine, this leather is the closest I've found and really is more black cherry (as its called in the laurel dasso leather selections) and reads more burgundy black than purple black. But the saturation, intensity, reflection of the leather is kind of like an eggplant. And it's proximity to black without being muddy and totally indiscernable from black unless in perfect lighting. But yes if this kind of color that straddles purple and black appears with less leaning on red, I would be really into that as well. My super deep blues are such great staples that I really want super dark Bordeaux and aubergine as well, as I think they will work just as well.

Took a clean Envirosax bag to put my red Box leather Bolide into for the hospital. So sunny, warm and bright today but caught a rain shower on the way back and I got caught out (even with an umbrella). Note to all, especially myself, Envirosax is NOT waterproof at all!

DH was really sweet and patient, he switched all the shopping from a supermarket life-bag and let me use it for my Bolide. I had to wipe the Bolide dry with the sleeve of my cream cashmere Ballantyne sweater before switching because my open packet of tissues fell out onto the wet street.

Photos later. I'm still damp but Bolide seems fine. Honestly, this bag business is all slightly ridiculous sometimes :girlsigh:

Papertiger ,

What a sweet DH you have. My DH thinks I'm nuts whenever it starts to drizzle and I run for cover. Rain is my dreaded enemy for bags, shoes, coats and my hair. It's horrible because I hate that yucky feeling that occurs when rain water gets on anything. Bags and shoes are the worst because realistically they should be able to withstand the elements but most aren't. I'm so glad your bag was ok even though you have to use a cream cashmere to fix it. We are all obsessed and definitely dedicated to taking care of our collections

That's a lovely colour :-)

People/businesses have their own definitions, but I'd say officially around 20+ years for vintage and then the 'so-out-it's-in' 8-20 years for classic almost-vintage (particularly great for ex-it bags, they were 'it' bags for a reason). Also, classics like your Chanel Reissues and Classic Flaps or @vink 's Lady Dior that, new or old, never go out of fashion.

Personally, I'm over this idea that fashion (commercial brands) dictate our likes and style. It's all just to keep us spending more and more money buying new. My taste doesn't change that much and neither does my shape or needs (though I respect others' often do). I think the price hikes of the past couple of years have gone off the scale!!!! especially in terms of what we (the consumer) has in return. When I see the scale of growth and financial annual shareholder reports of Kerring and LVMH (and others including H) pricing and strategy is not about reasonable return and sustainable business practice and it certainly is not about a longterm service relationships with customers. I'm also sick of so much waste (including my own) and over-spending (esp my own).

I have got rid of some bags that I may have bought in a weak moment, seemed like a bargain ho ho, or are of a style that never really suited me, some things were great shapes/colours etc but reflect what I could afford at the time. I'm not sorry for all my 'editing'. However, I did make some good decisions even 'way back when' and money couldn't buy better now.

Asserting my independence. Frowned on by the 'fashionistas' but I'm love'n', keep'n' and proudly keep wear'n' collection. I own them so I need to own them.

MJ Venetia (navy, shw) - beautifully made, solid bag, fantastic leather and finished. So retro (mid-70s or mid-60s) it fits perfectly with casual, minimal and mod clothing. Con = heavy
Large Chloe Bay (brown, brass hw) - Great patina, smooth, smooshy leather, posh-casual. So retro (looks exactly like my Aunt Masha's old bag) goes with any narrow '70s-style silhouette outfit (tweed jacket, bootlegs/kick-flares etc). Con = heavy and I've forgotten how to wear casual and/or brown.
Chanel Cambon Tote (cream/python/blk (no hw)) Light, easy to carry, worry-free Chanel, worry-free off-white, perfect going to wedding bag. Con = feel self conscious carrying large CC logo (unless I'm at a wedding LOL).
Burberry reverse check back-pack (mostly black, shw). Used for dance classes, I have no problem using this bag a lot. Separate leather shoe compartment base. Con = have to make sure I brush any cat-hair off it.

Come-back kids Still need to carry them more!

Large Chanel quilted back-pack (black, ghw) OK so this has been back 'in fashion' for a while. Con = chains ruin good jackets and coats so more Summer only, I like to be very casual bordering on grunge wearing this. Originally my mother's, perhaps this has passed over to the official vintage side (?)
Med front-pocket Chloe Paddington (all-black, black hw) great leather, amazing with a an all-black outfit in the city, so many compliments, easy to wear without the lock but I like the lock > Con = heavy!

Anyone else have some not quite-so-fashionable bags?

I don't have many vintage, but I sure have some older it(?) bags. [emoji4] When I like my stuff, I just like it, and just like you, I wear them when I feel like wearing. [emoji4] Going by the definition of almost-vintage, I have quite a few. [emoji4]

Old-school MJ such as Stella, Sophia, and Venetia : They're my first love and my first buys. If it's not for the weight, I'm sure I'd haul them like crazy in the pre-loved market. The quality is superb you can absolutely see it. I'm surprised the resale price isn't so good, but that's good for a fan like me. These days, it's very hard to come by one in a good condition though. It seems like people wear them to shred before decided to get rid of theirs. (It amaze me what kind of treatment people do to their bags for them to be in such stages. [emoji848])

Old Coach like those that's made around and before 2000: I have a few myself. Solid leather. Great quality. Some are not counted in rotation anymore since I just give up on wearing them, but if you really want to see, I'll unearth them just for the project. [emoji6]

The hands me down : these are sure to be vintage. [emoji4] I don't count them in current rotation so they're not in the "color" project photo.

Please don't ask me about the stage of my walk-in closet. Sometimes I wonder myself how many stuff are in there. [emoji848]

I am definitely in for vintage week. I have some bags that I don't count or ever carry which belonged to my mom and aunts when they were teens. Also have couple of my first bags my mommy bought me. Will be great to photograph them

Love the old vintage Coaches, their leather and tanning process must have ben amazing way-back in the day. Please unearth a few old-time Coaches for us to have a look at, in a way that's partly what this thread's about.

And it would have to be this colour (below, a true black-red-purple) and not just be some vague purple called 'aubergine'

View attachment 3654225

That's pretty. I'd say my City used to look almost like that when it's new. After years, it's lighten a lot. (I now realize that the best color for dust bag is black. The color can really fade even if you keep it in the dust bag, on shelf, in a walk-in closet. Exposing it to all kind of light is just bad, especially for Bal. Chanel is genius with their black ones.)

BTW, I really think Hermes has something like this, but I'm not sure. [emoji848]
