On the subject of preloved premier....
I agree 600 is a good limit and the most I've paid so far. My HG was a lusted after Carlos Falchi metallic croc hobo that came out for $4k and I pined for, for about 5 years until I found NWOT on the secondary market and paid $600. 85% off retail makes me feel savvy. And it did not disappoint. This fendi I bought for 80% off retail worn less than ten times she says is a similar happy situation for me. $450, I am comfortable with that.
Ironically the massaccesi I received yesterday was the same price and of course a totally different animal but a brown bag is a brown bag.
I guess I feel that it is too much for a bag with no resale value and without a particular soul grabbing style. It's a very simple brown zip top tote with long strap and I love the leather and it is very functional but pretty and it is a great bag but I do not really feel it is a price I will feel comfortable paying again in the future. The base version of that bag is €265 and my customizations added up to total €455 and to me that is just silly, but every single customization was something I really wanted. I now know that I will not be ordering any more massaccesi bags for more than €350, because much more than that range I could find a premier bag with exciting style and resale value to boot and buy that instead. I get excited by the 'build a bag' aspect of the massaccesi shopping experience and I get out of control. And forget that for me, the bags are about €300 worth of jjoy for me, and much more than that will leave me slightly unsatisfied about the price vs the bag. So I will wait and buy models that come out in the future that I don't feel compelled to modify so much, and on sale, so I feel like I end up feeling like it was an excellent buy. I am just cheap with non known brands that can't be liquidated for very much in a pinch I guess!

I say stick to new because YOU say...(see quote above, words in bold and underlined).

I prefer to buy new, but I do also (rarely) buy preloved if the handbag is no longer produced. And, I won't pay more than $600 for a preloved premier designer bag because that's the most I've paid so far. If I go higher than that, then it's better to just buy new.

$600 is a good limit and over all the bags that I was looking at today. A couple were half that.

I have no idea why I was looking but I saw some cuties and thought they'd be awesome because I wouldn't buy these brands retail.

But they have outlets. So I think I'll go the outlet route first before I go pre loved.

But I am still on a bag and SLG ban until April.

DBF is challenging me to go longer on a bag & SLG ban. So I might extend this ban for another quarter.

The ultimate goal would be to stay on the bag and SLG ban until September.

So no outlets or preloved, no gifts of bags or SLGs. [emoji33]

But it's surprising to see the resale of some brands. Some become super cheap. It's kind of a good way to try a brand if you don't want to go all out for one. But there's also outlets and sales.

Speaking of the pre-loved ones....
i am lusting after a BV Cabat, haven't yet made up my mind what size-colour-leather i want, i left it to the fate - once i see the one that will make me jump i will know THIS IS IT!! price in the boutique is within 6,500-10,000$ (higher for exotics) it's fully hand woven, and blahblah.... and it's way beyond my understanding and reach, thus i am looking at the used ones, and considering what they cost new, i think 1,700-2,000$ looks like a reasonable price for the one in good condition.
But the question is - IS ANY USED BAG WORTH THIS AMOUNT???? in the end of the day it's just a bag....
i am on the edge.... i know it will be an impulse... if i see THAT VERY CABAT, i might pull out my credit card and click 'pay' .... but it ill be a 5-8 year old bag.... but i'm not gonna pay full price for a new one anyway....
until now max what i paid for a 'second hand in LIKE NEW condition' bag was 950$ (with BN price tags of 2300 and more), and about the same 600-700 for USED but in good condition.

Girl, yes. Some "used" limited edition exotic Hermes Birkin's are worth 6 figures...to someone. LOL! Preloved bags, jewelry, etc. are worth what the market dictates...and more importantly what you will pay. I've happily and merrily paid just under $5k for a used bag and if I decide I want a used bag tomorrow that's going for $20k I'll snap that up too.

If we start saying things aren't worth X, we'll all be running around in white t shirts, khaki pants and flip flops while carrying our things in a recycled paper sack. :whut: Almost none of our stuff is "worth" what we pay for it. We like the brand or the style or the cache or the materials or the whatever and pay more for it. And that's perfectly ok.

And it kills me when people disdain preloved bags, clothes or cars but will happily live in a preloved house - with all the previous owners' hair, dead skin, animal waste, germs, etc in the air ducts, carpets, kitchen appliances, bathroom & jacuzzi pipes, etc. Or they'll sleep on a preloved bed in a hotel. Or fall in love with a preloved mate. I'm a germophobe and have to knock myself in the head at times. It's all perspective.

Life is short. Get the bag you love at the price that makes sense to you. If my unicorn (not HG) preloved Chanel pearly beige lamb jumbo w/ghw crosses my path, my AmEx will be a-smokin'. :graucho:

Exactly this!! And, love you too! :ghi5:

We budget fashionistas on a mission have to stick together. LOL!

I'm also totally fine with preloved. It's all about the condition. If it is visibly worn then I need to like that about it (leather broken in in a nice way, softer against the body) and if it's actual wear from bottom corners I need to feel like it isn't visible or I can get some leather conditioner in the same color and perk it back to new looking with some massaging conditioner into it, but if it's actual cracking and crumbling then that's a bag that needs a total overhaul and price needs to reflect that for those seeking a project.

I can't wait see what you got!
And if you count it for last year, that give you room in your count for whatever you need to buy this year.

Really? It's a pretty bag. Do you know why you aren't reaching for it?
I could definitely see myself getting an Alma at some point. I really like some of the colors in epi.

Ooooh! Thanks for this list!

I love your Mulberry Lilly!!! I have been so tempted with this bag. I even thought of it for a workhorse. But I have enough flaps (yes. I'm saying this til I mean it. lol! ) and need something with more capacity and no chain strap for a workhorse. So I'm still on the hunt for my perfect bordeaux bag and / or a great workhorse.

You, however, have done a great job in picking a range of bordeaux / burgundy bags across styles and even with nuance in shades. Which are your favorites? Any on the chopping block?

Beautiful reds! Your edit of the Alma was perfect. And , I am still loving your burgundy patent!! I neeeeeeed a burgundy / bordeaux bag in my life. It's one of my favorite colors for bags and I don't have one. I think I love the color so much I'm putting a lot of pressure on getting the "perfect" one. Lol!

Are you still loving your Henri Bendel bag? Do you wear it? It may be time to upgrade (nudge, nudge. lol!)

I really love your Tom Ford. I love how unique it is and the color really works for it. It allows everyone to see the shape and structure. (I saw it in black and was unmoved - not nearly as pretty.) But I can't get myself excited to own brown yet. :-s

The talk / showcases of burgundy bags made me remember a bag I "sorta" have. It's in purgatory because I don't think I'll wear it again but haven't bothered to list it.

As far as alma goes I think because it is in de like my pap 30 and my speedy 30 so when I grab a hand held it's usually one of those two. Speedy because it is super light and Papillion 30 because I can fit it on my shoulder if I get tired of hand carry. Visually though I think Alma is the prettiest and she was a gift , that is why I have held on to her.
I actually really like your coach willis? Are you not loving her because she does not have a high end designer name on it or because your tired of her. I have discovered I can be a bit snobby with my poor bags and now I am trying to look at each bag as if it had no name on it and would I still love it as much.

I found another red bag, how could I forget!!?!

Spark,
Couldn't have said it any better...I buy what I like and I'm always mindful of my coins... yes I love Chanel Flaps but I only like single Flaps so with that being said I can only get preloved. Can I afford to buy New double flap from boutique of course, I just choose not to. Heck I just scored a Givenchy biker jacket nwt for 500 bucks that retailed for over 5k. Everyone is so jelly about it.

Some People feel retail is better but buy lower quality stuff which never makes sense to me. Why spend 2k for mid range item when you can get premium item pre loved in excellent condition for same amount

Neither it does to me.
i was just feeling bad about being weak and not so committed to my goal, my 2017 aim was to resist and not spend as much as i did in 2016, but instead i already got 2 bags outside of my commitment and again considering one more, even more expensive, although pre-loved..... thus needed either talking out, or encouragement... which Spark did very nicely, confirming my reasoning - life's too short, I know what I like, i don't go crazy but trying to be reasonable and mindful, as such, if the price is right nothing should pull me back from it :)
