I'm carrying a very sparkly Marc Jacobs red sequined bag that I got via TheRealReal in 2015. A tPF friend pointed me towards it; it was a runway bag in S/S13, eye-wateringly expensive, but was listed at something like 95% off on TheRealReal so I simply HAD to pop for it! It's called the Tweed Girls Mae, and it's a red, cream, and black sequined plaid that is perfect to wear this month.
The outside is fabric. Inside, it's fully lined in leather. The strap can be worn either doubled as a short shoulder strap, or long as a cross-body. Actually, it is one of my favorites, but I only wear it in December and on Valentine's day, because of the "sparkle" factor. :giggle:
I haven't had a chance to photograph it, but here's the image from the web site:

What you mention here is what makes me pull my hair out sometimes when I'm thinking about my handbags.

My ideal is to have "forever" bags. Ones with the quality, style and function to last for decades or even the rest of my life. So, I consciously started buying Chanel for that reason. I love and use my Chanels and feel comfortable that they have staying power in my closet (once I figured out my material preferences).

And, this makes me feel like I should buy Hermes. But, I'm just not in love with any of the styles. I have very strong like for the Kelly. But, if it weren't Hermes, I can't say I'd definitely buy it. So, I shouldn't buy it because it's Hermes. (In contrast I'm drawn to lots of quilted flap bags. So my Chanels make sense for me to buy.)

All other brands - including to some extent Gucci & LV - will have styles that date pretty easily. And, it's hard for me to stay in love with a bag that looks dated. Not vintage. Those are great. But, an "it" bag that has an obvious and very much past year and era - no bueno.

And many brands, like YSL or Prada, have known quality issues. So, just why would I spend lots of money on them if I have to worry if they'll not only "date" but may not last.

Throw in that I like variety. I couldn't wear the same Kelly or Chanel flap or anything every day.

So, what to do? I'm not sure. Right now I'm buying bags I love that aren't trendy and come from quality manufacturers. And, I have to keep the size of my collection manageable so I wear all my bags. And, I try to look at resale so I can get value out if I sell a bag. And...

Sheesh! This is a lot of thinking for some sacks. But at the end of the day, I do bristle at some of the prices - especially when the bag won't be a valued "keeper" for years to come.

No one has to have an Hermes. H has plenty of competition from Moynat, Valextra and the oldest leatherwear house of them all Delvaux.

I don't think LV Steamers will ever date, they're based on a trad old model nor will their Speedy or Alma, Gucci have their classics that only get rested for a couple of years before they come back like the Jackie/Bouvier or Bamboo Top-handle.

I remember when my mother got rid of lots of bags (mostly Chanel in classic black gold) 'at a certain age'. The emphasis was suddenly on casual minimalism for a few years, anything but classics. I'm not sure if she thought they looked old fashioned (this was in the mid-90s) or they made her look old fashioned. Anyway, years later she seems to have bought most them back again.

Unfortunately I have never been able to see Moynat, Valextra or Delavaux in person. :frown: I'm going to have to make a point to track down a seller of Delvaux as I do love those bags. Unfortunately all the US stores are in cities I rarely visit with the exception of Chicago. And, I don't plan to go there any time soon either.

That all being said, I would looooove to have this Hermes bag! :woot: Anyone wanna give me a late bday present?

I would if I could, it's FAB.

I am impressed that you even get to carry a bag. When mine were small I had three under four years of age and I was lucky if I had everything in my diaper bag.

Oh trust me the road to carrying a hang bag plus diaper bag was not smooth, lol!

My twins are now 4 but in the early days I went through the phase of carrying everything plus the kitchen sink when out and about. Then I had my now 20mths old and it was triple the stuff! The only thing I use to put in their diaper bag was my wallet and that was literally it. I used to feel like I was living just for the kids with no identity of my own (pls don’t get me wrong I love my kids to death [emoji7]). So I started small using a small crossbody bag filled with my own stuff and now I’m at the stage where I can carry a handbag and not even think about it getting in the way with the kids.

Thankfully the twins are independent and fully potty trained so they really don’t need much when out of the house; for the 20mths old I take just extra pull-ups, wipes, disposable nylon bags, change of clothes, sanitizer, drink cup and snack.

That is was me by the time I added the fourth child.

I lost my marbles this month. I sold two bags but also bought two. One was planned. I wanted a small zipped tote with a good strap drop . The other was today at a local boutique that is in my area and just started carrying MZ Wallace. They had a super light metro Sutton in steel metal . This bag can shoulder carry and go cross body. My husband said It was light as a feather . It is a fun bag.

You should make a trip to NYC. Those brands are carried at Barneys & Bergdorf Goodman. There are flagship boutiques of their own on 5th & Madison Ave. You can also order them from Barneys online store which offers free return shipping. ;)
