don't get me wrong, gals, I am not against any brand, neither I am against any amounts paid, or charged, to each his own, as they say, but since we touched the subject of reasonability of amount paid for the bag, which can be enough to pay for a small car, etc, I am just trying to understand how mad the world has become that we consider it normal to pay millions for a painting, dozens of thousands on a handbag... you can buy a couple of horses for the price of Birkin!

I think bag prices are now just numbers plucked from the air. They bear no equation with labour + materials + overheads (+ marketing).

Hermes was always very, very expensive and traditionally Chanel, Gucci and LV dear. Considering that a 1990s Birkin or Kelly could have been the only bag carried for 20 years, fair enough but fashion brands charging thousands like YSL, Miu Miu, VB, the Row and so on, sold with no aftercare or pretence that bag designs will last more than a season I totally despair.

Something that was said many times over but is really starting to sink in, is when you buy a new bag for an occasion that you already have a similar bag for that use. I through this sale season have not bought quite a few bags because it would mean less usage of the one I already have. How many small black bags with chains do I need for example. One with silver chain and one with gold should be good enough. This thought has been helping me really choose wiser on what I buy and what I keep. What statements are helping keep your bag shopping under control.

1. If I didn't look at it all season why am I considering it at sale time?

2. Almost like the bag I want is like almost the number winning the lottery

3. I reserve the right not to buy anything I reserve.

4. Any bag that needs the brand displayed on the outside to make it sell is not a bag designed well enough to sell itself.

5. Buying an HG (bag) is like committing to a soulmate. Not to be taken lightly.

6. There are always going to be fabulous bags.

7. A signature bag carried is better than a collector's bag on a shelf

8. I already have better.

Agree 100% on this.
Life's become a market place.
you're worth nothing, until you get buying power. Then they all are after you.
Buy this, purchase that, you can't live without this gadget, you will feel better if you get that device....
we've become the puppets, and the marketing managers are pulling the strings...

It's up to us to weigh up the pros and cons of everything and not fall into line. Out of almost every person I know I don't have an Apple phone - you'd think I choose to walk barefoot in the rain the way I'm questioned about it.

These are all so true.

Is anyone else carrying specific bags for the holidays? I see red bags, but the holidays aren’t limited to only red. [emoji4]
I'm carrying a very sparkly Marc Jacobs red sequined bag that I got via TheRealReal in 2015. A tPF friend pointed me towards it; it was a runway bag in S/S13, eye-wateringly expensive, but was listed at something like 95% off on TheRealReal so I simply HAD to pop for it! It's called the Tweed Girls Mae, and it's a red, cream, and black sequined plaid that is perfect to wear this month.
The outside is fabric. Inside, it's fully lined in leather. The strap can be worn either doubled as a short shoulder strap, or long as a cross-body. Actually, it is one of my favorites, but I only wear it in December and on Valentine's day, because of the "sparkle" factor. :giggle:
I haven't had a chance to photograph it, but here's the image from the web site:

Sorry to jump in, but I still owe you some pics! Turned out to be difficult, photographing this dark blue coat, especially showing the silver side buckles. This is the Boss Cielina coat and I am wearing both kinds of bag hardware with it. Have to try it with my dark red / soft pink / purple bags! Here shown with Longchamp and Mulberry, Burberry in the background. My other new coat (Strenesse) still has to be worn for the first time...

This is a GORGEOUS coat! It fits you beautifully, too. And it looks soooooo warm, on this first day of (shiver) winter!

I have this in black glazed leather, I think it's called Rita Mae. I love the size and look but I don't wear mine often. Love yours as it has its own character!
