I had great news today. My ex is agreeing to let me take my sons with me on my next trip home! So I get to be in my home country with my whole family next summer, for sure! I’m so excited. I’ll get 3 months to get out of here and feel at home, and I get to show my sons around places I grew up in, now that they are old enough (12&14) to appreciate it. Yay! And my dad will get to meet my daughters for the first time. It’s just going to be great. I’m so excited planning where we will stay, etc.... on top of that, I have some half brothers that I haven’t seen in 30 years with similar aged kids who are planning to try to go out to Hawaii at the same time as we are, so we can all see our dad at the same time, and introduce our kids to him at the same time (he doesn’t know most of our kids, only my sons a decade ago he has met, none of the other grandchildren), while he’s still alive. I think it’s going to be a really, really cool summer/family reunion experience. Yay!
Now if i could channel my bag energy into summer vacation planning , which I think I can, I can maybe cool off and live on Ban Island in economic favor of beach house rentals and the like!
Sounds fantastic!

Isn’t it a time honoured TPF rule that a HG bag is the exception to any ban?

Your bag reveal makes me unexpectedly sentimental. It’s a beautiful red bag that was worn with love by its previous owner, and has the wear to show for it. But it found a new life with you, and I can just feel your adoration for it. It’s like reading a story about a racehorse that is retired at the end of a racing career, who finds a new home with loving owners on a peaceful ranch.

Didn’t your life change a lot in the last year, Sparkle? So if these were bags you used to love and wear lots, I would wait longer and see what happens. If you find that you’ve really moved on, then I think it would become easier to let go of them.
Yes, my life changed like crazy this last 16 months-ish. So, you make a good point. Now that I'm settled, I may go back to more "normal" patterns and start using the bags more.
Those “just in case” bags can be the bane of our existence! I’m like you in that I don’t like to sell a bag until I have its replacement at least in mind, if not already in hand. But question yourself, what is the “in case” situation you’re thinking of? Or is it just a fear of the perceived hole in your collection, which, if you’re reaching for other bags instead, may not really be a hole at all?

Of the 2 Prada’s, are they very different styles and capacity or are they redundant to each other? If it’s the latter, I’d suggest selling the one you like least and seeing how you feel. The fact that you’ve lumped them together makes me wonder if you should really get rid of both, or if selling one and keeping one might be a more palatable answer, at least in the short term.
The in case scenario is that I'll need to run errands, go out casually in bad weather and not have the right bag. So, I do need to think of whether I have a replacement.

The bags are different. One a red small. The other a pink mini. (The size names are deceptive because the mini is actually 10" x 6.5" x 4") Pink and red are some of my favorite colors for bags and that is another reason I have some energy to sell. I see better looking (but not necessarily as sturdy or functional) red and pink bags.

@bakeacookie - oops not sure where your quote went, but thank you!!!

Thank you! She's a bit hard to capture 'cuz of the distress on her. Her handles are a deep red. Whatever shade, I love her =)

=D

=D haha your emoji's made me lol

I believe all HGs are exempt from any rule lol. Thank you, that is how I feel about the bag - I'm pretty sure I'm not the second owner of it, perhaps the third because I saw it somewhere else online, used by someone for a photo shoot of some sorts I think (the seller used the same pics). For it to make its way to me, I definitely feel like it was meant to be and kinda makes me warm and fuzzy inside to share in the bag's story haha.. kwim? And her wear is actually part of the original bag lol - that collection featured distress, so aside from some additional wear, the previous owners actually kept her in amazing condition, especially the interior, so I feel she was really loved and that makes me really happy. I hope I do her justice!

I love the modification you made to it, so functional!

If you don't have a more ideal bag in mind for the same purpose, it seems to make sense to hold on to bags that DO work, until you find them. And if you've been using other bags in your collection to do the same job, then maybe you don't need the Pradas, or even their replacements or better versions of them? And it's not terrible to have some bags for those just in case moments - I know I have more of those than I need or maybe want, but when those moments do come up, I'm really happy I kept them. It does make letting them go a bit harder, but it's also helped me keep my buying and pining in check because I have no holes in my collection, for better or worse.

that is such wonderful news!!
I have thought all you said. Maybe it's ok to let them go. Maybe it's ok to let them stay. I'm really not sure what to do right now.

And, I agree with your statement. All rules go out the window with true HGs!! LOL!

That red is stunning — it looks like a true, perfect red. But if you’re not using them, what are you using in rainy weather instead?

Maybe you need to let this rest for a bit and not push yourself to make a decision. Like you said, you just moved and that’s an incredible amount of upheaval. Maybe you need to get a little more settled and see if you naturally start using those bags again. Or maybe while you’re letting it rest, the more perfect option will reveal itself and you’ll know what to do.

I’m glad to hear this! Having the kids spend time with grandparents is good. I’m wish everyone in your family the best of time.

While I have no clue what to do with my Pradas, I did clear house a little. One of the less popular bags just sold! Whoop! It's almost no money but, it feels good to have it gone. So, I now just have two bags listed for sale plus one that just went to consignment.

I think you must have sold over ten or maybe 20 bags/clothing articles this year. That’s such a huge success clearing up the closet even though you always say you don’t like listing things. Congrats!

I think this is where I'm landing. When in this much doubt - whether purchasing or selling - I need to pause.

It's been a crazy time. I've actually moved twice in the last 14 months. And both of my kids moved during this time - one after finishing undergrad and the other to go to grad school. I don't want to see another box for as long as I live.

Thanks, @vink! Yes, I've sold 22 accessories items (bags, SLG's, jewelry) through my listings and about 30 clothing items through consignment. I do really hate listing so it feels good to have things out of my closet as a result.

Sometimes just having it gone and reclaiming your space is worth just as much or more than the money. Congrats on all the decluttering you've been able to do.

Since we're all confessing here, I haven't bought a bag since the end of July in NYC. I have bought a couple charms and a couple card cases, but no bags.

Today (Tuesday) I did something I rarely do and took my LV to work. Turned out to be only a half day though, lol. The computer system went down this morning and they let us leave (on your own time of course, it wasn't free) at 11:30. My friend did tell me the system came back up later, so I guess I'm back to work tomorrow. I don't want to take the LV again tomorrow, so I was looking at my list to try to find something else. I think I will switch to my Brahmin. She hasn't gotten any attention for a while, so it will be her turn.

Sparkle, I am biased because I own a black saffiano Prada, but: I think you could let go of the pink one. I would keep the red one as it really is a timeless almost indestructible classic!

:amuse: Your comment made me giggle. I have a black saffy Prada with a similar shape to the LV Alma or Hermes Bolide. I adore that bag and you can't get it out of my clutches. And I was just thinking that I wish the pink one was black as that would solve my desire for a small black bag with ghw.

I'm just going to sit on these bags and focus on switching out the red and black Chanels. I don't have any doubt that I want those in different materials so it makes sense to work on that "project" first.
