Yea. That makes sense. But, in the case of the 2 Pradas in particular, I'm struggling with semi rational issues.

Because they are saffiano (durable) and double zip totes (very functional), I consider these my go to all weather / all situation bags. But, I barely wore them last year. So, obviously I'm finding other bags to wear for this usage. I just feel like I should keep them "just in case".

In my saner moments I think - sell and buy bags that will be more functional and get worn. I just don't know what those would be. Nothing is on my radar and I hesitate to sell without the better / more optimal bag(s) in place...or at least on the horizon.

I always struggle with this. I'll hold on to not perfect bags when I'm not clear what the perfect bag will be. I hate feeling a gap in my collection which makes me more likely to buy poorly.

I need to bite the bullet. :whut:

Those “just in case” bags can be the bane of our existence! I’m like you in that I don’t like to sell a bag until I have its replacement at least in mind, if not already in hand. But question yourself, what is the “in case” situation you’re thinking of? Or is it just a fear of the perceived hole in your collection, which, if you’re reaching for other bags instead, may not really be a hole at all?

Of the 2 Prada’s, are they very different styles and capacity or are they redundant to each other? If it’s the latter, I’d suggest selling the one you like least and seeing how you feel. The fact that you’ve lumped them together makes me wonder if you should really get rid of both, or if selling one and keeping one might be a more palatable answer, at least in the short term.

That is very nice of you to give that bag to your mom! Your mom’s husband reminds me of my grandfather, who remarried late in life (I was already in my 20s, so his “kids” were long grown and financially independent). The way he did it, his wife was allowed to life in “his” house until she died, and then ownership of the house went to my father and uncle. Of course, by the time that happened, his wife and her kids had sold most of the contents of the house and the house itself had fallen into disrepair. Not my grandfather’s intention, I’m sure — you can’t contol everything, but yes, you certainly can put things in a prenup or a will so your spouse’s children don’t get “your” stuff.

Oh it was my MIL, not my mom. My mom can have anything of mine she wants, and I often give bags to her and then take them back later, and basically as her only child and as we are best friends, anything that is mien is hers and hers is mine. But we have mostly different tastes and needs for bags...

I had great news today. My ex is agreeing to let me take my sons with me on my next trip home! So I get to be in my home country with my whole family next summer, for sure! I’m so excited. I’ll get 3 months to get out of here and feel at home, and I get to show my sons around places I grew up in, now that they are old enough (12&14) to appreciate it. Yay! And my dad will get to meet my daughters for the first time. It’s just going to be great. I’m so excited planning where we will stay, etc.... on top of that, I have some half brothers that I haven’t seen in 30 years with similar aged kids who are planning to try to go out to Hawaii at the same time as we are, so we can all see our dad at the same time, and introduce our kids to him at the same time (he doesn’t know most of our kids, only my sons a decade ago he has met, none of the other grandchildren), while he’s still alive. I think it’s going to be a really, really cool summer/family reunion experience. Yay!
Now if i could channel my bag energy into summer vacation planning , which I think I can, I can maybe cool off and live on Ban Island in economic favor of beach house rentals and the like!

Happy for you that your sons will go to Hawaii with you! They will love it, and how special that they will meet the rest of your family. That’s very important.

I mean, that they will meet your family again after so long.

I know! They don’t remember being there, at least not well. They’ll get to visit my mom and stepdad on the way to and fro as well, several day stopover en route. So a ton of family to see in person on one trip; There are several cousins on the mainland to see, as well as aunts/uncles and grandparents, and then they’ll get to meet 5 cousins and 3uncles once we are in hawaii, in addition to my dad.

This is a big big deal! I feel like yeah, planning for this trip is going to give you the motivation to stick to the ban. You never know when you’ll be able to get the whole family together again so you have to make the most out of it. I’m glad your boys get to go. Your daughters are probably too young to remember this trip well when they grow up but at 12 and 14, the boys will make wonderful memories to keep for life.

@bakeacookie - oops not sure where your quote went, but thank you!!!

Congrats, such a lovely rosy red
Thank you! She's a bit hard to capture 'cuz of the distress on her. Her handles are a deep red. Whatever shade, I love her =)

=D

=D haha your emoji's made me lol

Isn’t it a time honoured TPF rule that a HG bag is the exception to any ban?

Your bag reveal makes me unexpectedly sentimental. It’s a beautiful red bag that was worn with love by its previous owner, and has the wear to show for it. But it found a new life with you, and I can just feel your adoration for it. It’s like reading a story about a racehorse that is retired at the end of a racing career, who finds a new home with loving owners on a peaceful ranch.
I believe all HGs are exempt from any rule lol. Thank you, that is how I feel about the bag - I'm pretty sure I'm not the second owner of it, perhaps the third because I saw it somewhere else online, used by someone for a photo shoot of some sorts I think (the seller used the same pics). For it to make its way to me, I definitely feel like it was meant to be and kinda makes me warm and fuzzy inside to share in the bag's story haha.. kwim? And her wear is actually part of the original bag lol - that collection featured distress, so aside from some additional wear, the previous owners actually kept her in amazing condition, especially the interior, so I feel she was really loved and that makes me really happy. I hope I do her justice!

Yay for shopping the trunk of your car! For ten euros I got it fixed up and crossbodied up! Now I have the perfect nylon tote. In a color that will look lovely with my summer clothes but I actually like this purple year round
I love the modification you made to it, so functional!

If you don't have a more ideal bag in mind for the same purpose, it seems to make sense to hold on to bags that DO work, until you find them. And if you've been using other bags in your collection to do the same job, then maybe you don't need the Pradas, or even their replacements or better versions of them? And it's not terrible to have some bags for those just in case moments - I know I have more of those than I need or maybe want, but when those moments do come up, I'm really happy I kept them. It does make letting them go a bit harder, but it's also helped me keep my buying and pining in check because I have no holes in my collection, for better or worse.

Just popping in guys! November was a 0 in and 0 our for me but in the very early days of December already, I found my bag that got away!!!! As many of you know, my hg is an lv lockit which I managed to procure very early on when I started this thread series, but the one that got away, I never thought I’d find. I walked away from my approx 10 years ago and it lingered - i found it crept into my mind often, and I would google it, trying to find it so I could just look at t but it was elusive. With incredible luck, I found it in a local fb group recently for a crazy price! And amazing interior (which is super important to me on the occasion I buy preloved - a total of 3 times now, which also happen to be bags I’ve really loved and pined for), without further ado, my new to me red Miu Miu - some of you may recognize the collection since I have 2 other bags from the same line. So that’s me being bad and clearly breaking my resolution but after 10 years and the conditions surrounding it, it was something meant to be!
Congratulations on Your Nov stats. Oh wow, amazing bag that got away find! Pretty colour- congrats, it was definitely meant to be! Talk about patience and persistence!

That’s huge news - enjoy planning for your family trip. What a great way to deepen relationships between your kids and all of your relatives. I was lucky to spend some time with two Aunts earlier this fall (last visit was 10 years earlier.) They spent time with my DH and sons, too. It was so great to reconnect!
