We're going to the ballet tomorrow afternoon! Haven't decided which bag to carry (though I have picked the H scarf, since it has dancers on it, LOL) but I know it will be one of my mini bags.

The colors on this scarf seem to want an orange, red, or green bag, but I haven't got one. So I will probably carry my black BV pillow bag, which is always perfect. This time of the year, I wish I owned the pillow bag in silver, but I already have too many mini bags plus it seems a bit OTT to have a bag just to carry a few times in December!

Elaine, this is such a special scarf! Beautiful ... I hope someone there notices, like most of us would if we strolled past you during intermission. Enjoy the day and the ballet.

So beautiful to hear you speak of your mother. She sounds like am amazing woman, full of life, learning and love. The developed world has changed so much from the days when educated women could be nurses, secretaries, or teachers and anyone with greater aspirations had to be a pioneer, usually hard won and at a good deal of personal cost. I really stop to celebrate these advances, despite the obvious muck, but there’s still a lot to do.
This happened to my mom in some ways. She got her teaching credential in college, but got a job working as a trainee in space technology since there were no teaching jobs to be had when she graduated. She was quite a few years into her career and already had a family before either she realized or someone told her that she should have become an engineer. She worked with engineers, but always below them, never at their level. If she had been a man when she was coming of age, she probably would have been encouraged into engineering at the beginning of her career, or in college. She still could have done it, but by then, she had young children, she may have been a single mother already, and to go back and get her Masters was just not feasible at that point. She had a good career, but I think she regrets not going to that next step.

All this talk about coats and winter outfits has led me to shop my closet and wear my much neglected Zara coat - which is good.

But: DBF being away on a men‘s weekend in London led to me doing an excursion to an outlet village. Guess what? I bought two beautiful blue and black wool coats *facepalm* A third one was very tempting, but then I would have had enough coats for the rest of my life...

Ooh. Please share the coats. Living my coat dreams vicariously through others.

Thank you, WV! The thing about Hermès scarves is that the design doesn't show when they're tied, so (for example on this one) I know that ballet dancers are hidden inside, but for anyone looking at the scarf it just looks like swirls of color. Which to my mind makes the scarves a lot of fun.
Of course, it would be a real treat if someone were to come up to me in the lobby and say "I love your Ballets Russes scarf... kind of like a secret sorority handshake!

I'ven't been following this thrad actively so my post is most likely off-topic. I just found interesting research article about rude sales associates. So in the event you get treated poorly, it might be just another trick to make you purchase instead of unprofessionalism.

"When it comes to luxury brands, the ruder the sales staff the better the sales, according to new research from the University of British Columbia’s Sauder School of Business.

The forthcoming Journal of Consumer Research study reveals that consumers who get the brush-off at a high-end retailer can become more willing to purchase and wear pricey togs.

“It appears that snobbiness might actually be a qualification worth considering for luxury brands like Louis Vuitton or Gucci,” says Sauder Marketing Prof. Darren Dahl. “Our research indicates they can end up having a similar effect to an ‘in-group’ in high school that others aspire to join.”

For the study, participants imagined or had interactions with sales representatives – rude or not. They then rated their feelings about associated brands and their desire to own them. Participants who expressed an aspiration to be associated with high-end brands also reported an increased desire to own the luxury products after being treated poorly."

Way to go!

Thanks bakeacookie! Truthfully, it didn’t feel like a hardship letting these items go. I loved them and enjoyed them while I owned them and now they get to make someone else happy. I love the items that have joined my bag and SLG wardrobe!

You’ve got a great sense of style. If it makes you feel happy then wear it regardless of your age. If you’re second guessing a particular piece, explore that feeling further and find out why, then make a decision to keep it or toss it.

Thanks dcooney4, greatly appreciated.

Great advice and purging during moves. I am curious, which bags are you taking on your trip? We’re heading to the Bahamas in three weeks. Have a fantastic bday and bday trip Sparkletastic!
I actually took 5 1/2 bags.
• Hot pink Miss Dior
• Silver Diorama
• Black LV LockMe II BB
• Red Trussardi Lovy
• Beige / Gold Prada Jute Tote

The 1/2 is the black packable tote I got for my European vacation. I was going to buy a beach tote but could find one I like. Two of my swim suits have black in it so I'm making it work. :-s I think cute beach totes are hard to find.
I’m totally on board with you on this. Oh, and happy birthday, Sparkle! Hope you have a blast in the Bahamas!
Thanks!!!! :amuse:
In these photos you are wearing the prettiest plum color in your scarves and sweater! I have a hard time finding this color. I love it with navy or black.

OOTD with Dora.

My wardrobe has changed drastically in the last two years. I got rid of a lot of clothes that I wore in my 30s. My clothes are a little more conservative, although I do have some short (though not too short) dresses/skirts because my legs don’t look bad yet, at my age.

I put a lot more thought into what clothes I buy because I have to be more sensitive to what will look appropriate for my age. I also must consider the flaws that creep up on women age 40+ and how to disguise them.

That’s life.

I have had to force myself to not buy this bag. I just adore it. The color is just stunning. I need a cobalt blue bag that I can wear casually (as well as other times) and this would be perfect. But, I need to pause hard before I buy anything else. Buying 10 bags (8 that I've kept) in a year is enough.
Thanks to all for the  and 'likes' :ty:
@Sparkletastic have a great fun, spoil your beautiful self and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! :presents:
Thank you!!

I’ve read about that!

It triggers a desire to like show that you fit in, kind of thing. There might have been a thread about it awhile ago.

But hopefully more people walk away from such treatment. I refuse to purchase from rude SAs.
