Totes are my most frequently used bag style. I need the function and would like it to be stylish and light. Hence my love for the Dior panarea with the doomed handles. So my quest continues. I ran across this Coyn and I was tempted because of all the built-in pockets (laptop, phone, water bottle etc) and it zips up. But it just lacked that extra panache. Maybe it’s the leather? If Only I could feel the leather.. maybe it’s the color? Not quite the right caramel/tan? Dunno. Can’t pull the trigger.

Then there’s the Cuyana - tan with blush interior and the interior “ties” to change the profile..but it doesnt have the interior organization that the Coyn has. Does the blush interior supersede functionality? Seems like I’m leaning that way.

Yup...emotion overrides reason. (Which is why I have an impressive collection of mini/cocktail bags..but that’s a story for another day!)

Thank you everyone for hearing my tales of woe on my Panarea. I will contact the various leather repair shops you recommended.
I'm just getting into totes. I always disliked them. Now, I like them for the functionality. The problem is finding the right look.

Are you looking for a fashion tote or a work / practical tote? Or a combo of both?

I have my workhorse tote covered with this Knomo Tote that I bought last year. It's super functional and brand quiet so it's the perfect tote for work. But, it's not pretty and I'd never use it outside of work.IMG_2688.JPGSo, now I'm looking for a beautiful tote that I can use for fun when I need bigger capacity than my bags allow. It's just hard to find fashion and function together. Especially when I have such specific requirements.
+1 this looks like the sytle on my wish list. Does it have the central zip divider? What size is this?
Are you looking for the central zip divider or trying to avoid?

I totally hear you on the tote dilemma! It’s just so unbelievably hard to find a bag that in itself is so basic, that has all the necessary requirements.

My take on the two you listed: I had the same feeling about the Coyn. The interior organization sets it apart, but on the outside, it looks like any other tote you might see on the street. And yeah, from the photos, the leather doesn’t look great. It is so hard to tell from just photos. But the Cuyana, although less expensive, does look like it has scrumptious leather. I actually ordered a Cuyana tote a couple of years ago. I sent it back because it was way too big for me, but the quality was really good for the price.

Some bag organizers have that water bottle feature. I think you can get that feature both from Samorga and from Divide and Conquer on Etsy. Maybe get the Cuyana and an organizer to make the interior what you want?

This is so funny. Your comments are exactly what was on my mind. I never cared for the woven BV leather but, then I started falling in love with the pillow which I think is adorable. Based on that this tote wouldn't have caught my attention but, I also think the woven leather with the chain is striking.

This proves something I've been thinking lately. There probably isn't any one element / feature / brand etc. that I can say I'd never (or always) buy. Mixing things up in different ways can make something look completely brand new.

I feel the same way. There’s a thread asking What One Brand for the Rest of your Life? I can’t answer that question. I like different bags from different designers: the Kelly and Evelyne from Hermes, the Reissue from Chanel, the Speedy from LV, the simple nylon tote from Longchamp. All very different bags that I love in different ways for different reasons. All from different designers.

YES! There are so many great bags on different styles, materials, etc.

I also said I'd never buy hobos. And I love my 2 Jimmy Choo hobos. I actually wore this one today.IMG_2689.JPG
And I typically love almost Dior and Gucci but I'm not moved by anything in the current collections.

I hate it when that happens. You’re all about everything one designer or house does, and then they put out a collection you don’t care for and it just stops you in your tracks. Hmm, come to think of it, my DH loves it when that happens! :p

Love that Jimmy Choo hobo. So cool looking.

Thank you! I always feel a little self-conscious posting mod shots, but I’ve found it so useful when others post theirs, I try to do the same.
You shouldn't have any concerns. You look great!

Thanks for the compliment on the JC.

And, I hate it when a brand radically changes direction. I just want to know that x, y, & z brand work for me. Having to hunt down new options takes time. Even worse - it introduces me to new options / brands to buy. LOL! Don't let your DH know that it maybe safer to keep you from roaming.

I just realized that if I make it to Dec. 4 without a purchase, I'll (somehow) be at 4 months with no bags in. :whut: I would've thought that impossible given that I still have some additions I want to make to my collection.

But, BF/CM are days away and my bday is in Dec, so I'm not making any promises about making it through month 5. That being said, I'm pretty bag content right now. (I may even pull another bag for sale.) Rather than buying now, I want to continue to think about what I truly need and be planful about any buying.
