2016 resolution - shopping from my own bag and wallet collection. Any one else?

OMG, I used to be all over the place which led to a lot of buyers remorse! But, I've spent the past 3-4 years overhauling my collection. I'm finally at the point of knowing the bags I need to support my wardrobe. I have a list of to buy bags described by color and type. For example I've identified that I need a M/L work appropriate grey workhorse satchel and a S/M casual gold shoulder bag. I don't buy a bag just because I see it and like it. Instead I start with the function, size and color I need then I evaluate bags that fit the criteria til I find one I fall in love with. Then I buy.

My general criteria:
• Medium size
• Structured bags - satchels, shoulder bags and cross bodies.
• Only real animal skins (leather, python, etc. and no saffiano unless it's Prada.)
• No over the top branding.
• And I'm fighting with this last point but just need to give in - I need to only buy premier brands because the styles and quality makes me happy.

Even so, sometimes I get it wrong like with the MK (I'm giving myself a pass on the Knomo because it's only going back because the dimensions listed were incorrect) That's why I'm trying to make 2017 the year I don't return or sell any bags I buy. I want to force myself to be more deliberate.

What'a your approach?
What is the difference in the Prada saffaino vs others? I have never bought a Prada bag so I really don't know. I no longer have any saffaino bags at the moment. I got rid of the ones I had because as good as they would have been in the rain the shapes I had weren't working for me

Haha I need to buy the sketchbook that fits.

But I'll wait until the madness of the holidays dies down in the craft stores.

It is freeing. I've been selling a portion but giving away most of it and seeing the happy faces of my relatives across the ocean with the stuff that they received makes me feel better.

So to me, it wasn't a matter of money wasted, as the items brought joy to someone else after I had my bit of joy.

Use it or let it go.
I agree with you. I don't have to necessarily sell things when I let them go... donating makes me just as happy. I think of it all as "re-homing" and figure if I'm not using things, and they can go on to make someone else's life more pleasant, then it's a win-win. Not that I mind getting back some $$$ in some cases! But when it's clothes, I just give to the local thrift stores, and know that it's doing some good.

I like your approach [emoji175].

My bag list goes by
- 3 color group: beige/brown, black/grey, other colors (maroon, blue, turquoise and maybe green is what I usually "need")
- 2 size: small-medium, medium-large

I've also come to accept the fact some bags are only used once in a blue moon for certain activity. Eg lesportsac for beach/travel/volunteering event, clutch for dinners and longchamp neo tote as an airplane carry on bag.

I'm not a change-bag-in-the-morning to match my attire person. That's why I'm contemplating with the idea to use style app and plan my work outfit for the week to match the 1 work bag of the week.

Prada saffiano still feels like a leather. Kind of how LV Epi doesn't feel like saddle leather but you still know it's both leather and good quality.

Other "saffiano" leather often feels plastic-y or it can be too thin and unsubstantial. It can even have weird qualities where it squeaks like the DVF tote I bought and returned earlier in the year.

So when I hear people say there is no difference between Prada's trade secret Saffiano and other saffiano, I gasp in horror and take to my fainting couch. I guess it's similar to the psychic pain I cause my friends with developed palates when I say all wines are pretty much the same to me.
May I know which style app u girls use?
This is the one I'm using. I took a screen shot of it on iTunes.

Have you looked at MCM Milla bag? For your workhorse, it may fit the criteria. It doesn't have the laptop compartment though and you may have to use the sleeve instead. Maybe you could check it out? I think there's even a thread dedicated to it here somewhere. Or check out the MCM thread. ;)

And my approach;
1. I have to like the look of it.
2. It has to feel nice when I touch it. That's why I usually skip PU or any synthetic material when I shop online, but I'm quite open when I shop in person.
3. No disgusting smell. I don't care if it'll go away later. If the floor one is stinky, it's a sign.
4. The compartments have to make sense. It must be usable.
5. It has to fit me right or let's say I have to look good wearing it. Can't be too small or too big. It has to compliment my figure and my coloring. It has to look good on me.
6. The price should be within my budget and doesn't make me uncomfortable.

That's all. :)

I think the style app would be a fun way for you to do this.

And I like your colors. If you switch out your marron to red and pink we have the exact same color range! I love yellow / orange / purple but I just don't see me getting those colors in bags. Never say never but I really doubt it.

I love your list. Yes. These are criteria I think all of us should have. Especially #5. Sometimes I see someone wear the bag is wearing her vs she is wearing the bag.

Do you have a color range or even certain brands you have as your must go to's?

And, Vink, you always know the right bags to suggest to me. You're the one who told me about the Miss Dior that I'm obsessed with. ;)

I loooove the MCM tote and have been looking at it in grey (and red, and...)LOL!. Its one of the few bags I've wanted that I had a chance to see in person before buying and it's a wonderful bag. I like that it doesn't look totelike - more like a satchel and I love the leather. I was thinking about the grey for my workhorse but it's a little lighter shade than I wanted. It's not a no. Just a pause. I also would have to get a different strap. I don't care for the differently colored cotton textured one the bags come with. But that would be easy to swap out.

I'm tempted to try purple as everyone seems to like purple. But I prefer to split the purple to 2 standalone color - red/pink/maroon and blue [emoji23] I do love bright red [emoji175] it maybe my future addition [emoji4]

Re-homing actually feels a lot more satisfying than dealing with sales and posting.

And what money I have made back, that helps fund a small portion of my shopping. And I mean small [emoji23]

But it feels nice knowing that if I'm not happy with it, it can leave somehow haha.

Stylebook only can be used in iOS mobile device. I'm going to try another app YourCloset :)

Yay! [emoji1373]

How can you decide that your bags will be in medium or small-medium size? I feel I need to have bags in diffrent size (max 4 per criteria) to fulfil different needs.

Hm, my rule of thumb when buying bags are:
1. I dont have more than 4 in that size category
2. No inside divider
3. Secured closing (made exemption only for LV Noe)
4. Preferably with back pocket for easy access to phone

I only like certain brands, and especially only like certain models. For example I have balenciaga moto in part time, first, city, and thinking to buy red small city next year. Am quite boring, I guess.

By end 2016, my bag count is 19, including party clutch and 'lunchbag', but excluding 2 longchamps and fabric bags. It used to be 20, but I rehomed my Longchamp Cuir this morning following one of the question (sparkletastic?) in this thread or the 2017 thread.

My problem is I am sorely lack in medium bag category (ca. speedy 30 size). I thought Sofia Ferragamo small is in that category but turns out smaller. Any idea what other bag is in that category?
