U guys dont get i.t.. Shes trying to decide between a Hermes and a Tiffany diamond, not a Hermes and a lesser quality item of jewelry. Thats like saying "Oh well you can always get a lovely fake Birkin copy from Thailand"... :faint:

I second thissss finally someone here that understands me!!! Nothing is comparable to a tiffanys diamond ring, to a person that loves tiffanys....just like nothing is comparable to a hermes bag - to a person that loves hermes

my cousin on the other hand doesnt care if she carries fake handbags...and she doesnt care if her ring is from tiffanys or not :) she does her thing, i do my thing!

back to the topic at hand ---- DIAMOND for sure :) love it and it's something you can wear everyday vs. a bag -- if ur like me, youll change your bag daily to match ur outfit!! hehe :)

This just isn't true, Tiffany is all about marketing, and you can get the same quality diamond for much less elsewhere. Tiffany diamonds are cut using the same standards as other diamonds. It's just that Tiffany does not sell below a certain range of standard, and you can easily match this elsewhere. You're just paying for the name.

For me, the jewelry would have to be a signature design for me to buy designer. For instance, clovers by Van Cleef & Arpel, floating diamonds by Chopard. Otherwise, a diamond is a diamond. Only you are paying premium for the name and the ability to say the brand.

But a beautiful diamond is a beautiful diamond, regardless of brand or no brand. I would be more focused on the CCC's of the diamond. D or E color would be nicer. VVS would be nicer than VS. How is the cut?

As far as the Hermes bag.....do you have any H bags yet? How about diamonds? If you want both, you could sell some smaller jewelries and non-H bags, and get both!

I agree.

I adore Tiffany, but you are just paying for the name.

I vote for Hermes

again as i said in my original post, this is ALL relative to the person wearing the diamond! to me i wanted the name behind the ring, just like i want a birkin bag made by hermes -- not one that looks just as good, made with the same materials and of high quality! But that is just me :) Why get good when you can get the best? My e ring is from tiffanys and I could have gotten a 2 + carat of superb quality, but to me bigger always isnt better! :) im sure my cousin, friends and some of you may think differently - and it's all good! :) to each it's own!!!! :supacool:

"Best" is certainly a subjective term and in a lot of circles, Tiffany isn't a brand that qualifies. That's not just my opinion -- it's substantiated by tons of press about Tiffany having a crisis because its brand has frankly lost its luster. So I'm not sure how declaring one's own possessions "the best" is an argument. If you like Tiffany, you like Tiffany, but "Why get good when you can get the best?" I don't know about making a statement like that. But to each her own.

^^ Well said IntlSet--I agree. As much as I love their jewelry, I've actually always thought of Tiffany as a second tier below Harry Winston and Cartier etc.

OP--where are you? We have so many questions for you!

Agreed. For example:

1 carat Tiffany ring, G color, VS1 quality =

1 carat wholesaler/retailer/family jeweler ring, G color, VS1 quality.

DH and I looked at Tiffany, Cartier, and some other jewelers in San Francisco. We ultimately got a wonderful stone at a wholesaler and it was 1/3 the price of what it would have cost at Tiffany. With better clarity, I might add.
