Vintage Coach Photos & Chat

I have sold several due to the weight - like the Plaza bag. I recently got a court but I haven't carried it on a long trip yet. A lot of my bigger vintage bags have wider straps, like the kind on Rambler's Legacy. TBH, almost all my bags will hurt my shoulder if carried for a long time. I always have trouble finding the right bag to take on a trip when I know I'm going to be walking for a long time.

Have you ever tried a daypack? If Im going on a long outting, I usually take my Herschel backpack & it distributes the weight comfortably. Now that I have a coach daypack, Im really looking forward to long outings so I can test if it’ll be just as comfortable

I haven't. I feel like I'm too old and I don't know how I'd feel about having to take it off in order to get to my things, especially my phone.

I use my Daypack 9960 almost every day and I love it - and I'm kind of old myself! I try to take daily walks around the neighborhood for exercise and I have found it to be the perfect accessory. It took me a long time to warm up to the idea of a small backpack but now I find it absolutely essential; see below for rehab and catalog pictures of my little Daypack:

To those who choose to carry vintage on longer days out, how do you feel about/deal with the weight?

I carried my Court on my outlet trip yesterday for about five hours and both of my shoulders are really aching. I was going to carry a recent bag or the Casino but I wanted to show the Court to my friend.

I can only do the thin straps for short trips, hurts too much on all day outings. I love my Patricia for travelling back and forth to the states but I am not carrying her, I am driving when I do that. My favourite for long days is the Rambler's Legacy, small but not extremely small and it has a good sized strap. I find this one very comfortable on all day walking around.

I'm glad you mentioned the daypack!

I took my daypack on a trip to a local rose garden and while I barely felt the weight while on (and I loaded it) I was definitely relieved when I took it off. I think that goes for any backpack though, and it was way more comfortable than the usual one strap purse I carry.

You’re never too old for a daypack! Yea, it’s a pain in the butt to take things out on the go but I find if Im gonna be walking for long periods of time, I don’t really need quick access anyways

When I am going to be walking a lot, I like to have easy access to my water bottle. That is one of the reasons my bags for trips are so heavy. I wish I could just carry a small crossbody on those occasions but that is when I need room for a water bottle and a place to put my sweater when it gets too hot. I'm thinking about carrying a small crossbody and a lightweight nylon bag for the water and sweater.

I saw a bunch of this seller’s bags on Ebay & wow, she must really be downsizing her collection! A lot of interesting pieces, some of which I had never seen before!

Im so forgetful, Id probably leave the bag with my water bottle & sweater on like a bench & walk off lmao. Definitely not the best solution for me!

ETA: OH…for yourself! I misread that & thought you were suggesting I use a nylon bag lol, oops!

I had shoulder problems a while back and had to seriously evaluate everything that I carry. I pared down to only essentials and downsized my bags. Everything had to be crossbody optional in case shoulder got sore. I found that helped a lot with the shoulder pain.

I had the same problem 20 years ago and replacing shorter-strap bags with crossbody bags, or just changing to a longer strap that could be worn crossbody, solved the problem. I'd been carrying heavy bags from my right shoulder since high school and switching everything to the left shoulder and being more careful about how much I carried in my bags was a huge help. Switching often to a lightweight fabric bag like a LeSportsac or a Kipling on days when I'd be running around all day also made a difference.
