Most of these examples are marks of neediness. Neediness is usually derived from lack of experience or success with women, which withers his sense of masculine validation. He NEEDS that validation and tries very hard to get it, which is ultimately self-defeating. It's an ugly, self-perpetuating circle of behavior/results, and it's hard to break out of.
Sadly, most men nowadays do not learn the full nature of this phenomenon and how they are enacting it. Even if needy guys read this, most wouldn't really understand the nuts & bolts how it works, it's full implications, and how it applies to them. Nor do they know what to do different - they've never been 'taught.' This goes hand in hand with a lack of understanding womens' mindset.
At least, that's my take on it...
Most single men I know act in this manner (albeit in varying degrees), until they finally get lucky and land a girl. Sometimes, the guy latches on hard(she comprises his validation), and serves to annoy the girl or even drive her away(smothering).
Conversely, the guy could just be a little 'off'....
