Dutiful, Beautiful, Morning and Night
Zoë Kravitz on Her Beauty Regimen

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/06/f...tm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter&_r=0

Zoë Kravitz, 25, the daughter of the singer Lenny Kravitz and the actress Lisa Bonet, has pursued both of her parents’ professions. Her new projects include a supporting role in the soon-to-be-released “Divergent,” an action movie based on the first book in a trilogy of young-adult novels by Veronica Roth. Born in the Venice section of Los Angeles, Ms. Kravitz, who is also a member of the rock band Lolawolf, now lives in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, with the kind of luxuriously bohemian beauty regimen common to each neighborhood.

SKIN CARE

My morning and nighttime routines are pretty much the same. My facialist, Dayle Breault, whom I’ve been going to since I was 15 — my mom and dad go to her, too, which is how I found out about her — makes her own line. She has an amazing face wash that I use, or when I’m traveling, she has these really great cleansing pads, which are like a toner and cleanser in one. Under the eyes, I use a cream by Dr. Hauschka. Kiehl’s has an avocado eye cream that’s good, too. In the wintertime, I might use Dayle’s mist afterward, because it keeps your skin moisturized, and I like her serum. I’ll add that when it gets so dry here. In the shower, I use Dr. Bronner’s almond soap. Kiehl’s has a really great soap, too, that I’ll switch to sometimes. It’s called Kiehl’s Aromatic Blends: Vanilla and Cedarwood. Afterward, I’ll use coconut oil. I’ll use any brand as long as it’s 100 percent, and it’s something that I’ll pick up at the health-food store. For the most part, everything I use is either by Dayle or it’s on the natural side. I don’t like to put too much on if I don’t know what it is. The product is going in your pores every day. Like with coconut oil, you can literally eat it. I also like this company called Simply Divine Botanicals. Their products are organic. They make really great body butters, and they have a face wash I like, too. I’ve been using their How Now Brown Cacao butter. It smells like chocolate — yummy.

MAKEUP

Day to day, I don’t wear a lot of makeup. Dayle makes an SPF that’s really great or Laura Mercier has these shimmery tinted moisturizers with SPF. In the summertime, you can put a layer on, and it’s glowy and pretty.

I do always wear blush, but it’s like a stain. I’ve been wearing the Benefit liquid one — it’s called Benetint — since high school. For a while, I was much more into shading, like contour or bronzer, and sometimes in the winter I’ll switch to that. My lip balm is by Dr. Hauschka. For mascara, I like what you can get at Duane Reade. I’m not picky about brand. I just don’t like waterproof mascara because it doesn’t come off.

If I’m going out at night, I’ll do more. I do like a cat eye. Chanel makes this great liquid liner. That’s my favorite thing. Sometimes, I’ll do a classic red lip or a dark brown, but it’s more work to keep it together as the color wanders. For that, Nars has good chubby pencils. I have them in Cruella, a warm red, and a color called Dragon Girl. I like to mix them together. When I first started performing with my band, Lolawolf, I would do more of a look. But it’s me and two guys who could care less if I was getting dressed up, so now I pretty much do the same as I would anyway. Depending on where my skin is at, I might wear a foundation. I don’t like a lot of coverage. I’ll dab on Radiant Creamy Concealer by Nars where I need it. And there’s something called Lycogel that I discovered when I was shooting in South Africa. I went to a spa and tried it out and liked it. It’s not heavy.

FRAGRANCE

I love oils. Right now, I like vanilla musk, which I picked up at Whole Foods. But I’ll have others, and I usually mix different scents. Sometimes I’ll add a sandalwood. I’m also really into a Tom Ford cologne called Tobacco Vanille. It probably can be unisex. It works on both men and women. Also, recently this woman was wearing Tom Ford Tuscan Leather, which is more masculine, and it smelled incredible.

HAIR

I have a woman, Nikki Nelms, who comes to my house and cuts my hair. I met her at a W magazine shoot about two years ago. She’s really adventurous and comes up with ideas for me for events and stuff like that. This is my natural hair color right now. I colored it a couple years ago and it was kind of blond. It looked really cool, but my hair couldn’t handle it.

Otherwise, I use Wen products to wash my hair. The shampoo is really a conditioner and shampoo in one. It’s especially for African-American hair because it doesn’t strip it of all the oils. My mom introduced it to me. I’ve always had her there for good beauty advice. We’re both beauty fans. My friends are always laughing at her and me because we’re like witches with our potions and bottles and things.

TREATMENTS

Where I really spoil myself is my facials with Dayle. She’s between L.A. and New York, and I try to go as often as I can. Her facials have also become my go-to gifts for girlfriends. My theory is, when your skin is good, you can be confident and you don’t have to wear makeup.

DIET AND FITNESS

I’m a big fan of juice and health and all that stuff. That’s where beauty starts. I make sure that I’m eating well.

Usually for a film, I’ll have to hit a gym. Although in the winter in New York, it can be tough to go out of the house. I go through phases. Right now, I really like the “Ballet Beautiful” at-home videos. I haven’t been to an actual class of theirs in ages, but I’ll travel with the videos, and you can do it anywhere. I do try to fit in cardio. In the summertime, I’ll run in the park or something, and in the winter, it’s the gym. I also walk everywhere. Thank God for New York because I probably spend 80 percent of my time walking, from going up and down stairs to catching the subway.

Zoe Kravitz and her mom Lisa Bonet attend the 2014 Vanity Fair Oscar Party hosted by Graydon Carter held during the 2014 Oscars on Sunday night (March 2) in West Hollywood, Calif.

Also in attendance at the event was Grammy nominated singer Sara Bareilles.

“I’m Oscaring it up! Get ready for sneaky pics from a party I probably shouldn’t be allowed in,” Sara tweeted before going to the party.

FYI: Sara is wearing a Nicole Miller dress, Stuart Weitzman heels, a House of Lavande Vintage necklace, a Corto Moltedo clutch, and Jacob & Co. diamond stud earrings. Zoe is wearing head-to-toe Balenciaga. Lisa is wearing vintage YSL with a vintage fur.

Lisa looks a little gaunt in the face. Usually she looks so young.

Zoe Kravitz Will Take Part in Andrew Niccol’s “Good Kill”

From Deadline:

EXCLUSIVE: Andrew Niccol has cast and a title for his upcoming directorial project. He’s named the picture Good Kill, and Mad Men‘s January Joneshas signed on to star as the wife of a fighter pilot-turned-drone operator.Ethan Hawke — who worked with Niccol in Gattacaand Lord Of War — is playing the pilot, Zoe Kravitz (Divergent) and Jake Abel (The Host) play members of his flight crew, and Bruce Greenwood plays his superior officer. The tension comes from the stress of battling the enemy by drone. He fights the Taliban by remote control for 12 hours a day, then goes home to the suburbs and feuds with his wife and kids for the other 12. He starts to question his mission, asking himself if he is creating more terrorists than he is killing in a war seemingly without end. Niccol wrote the script. Said Voltage’s Foreman: “This film will give the public a glimpse into what they are reading about and seeing on the news every day. This is not just about where war is heading but what is happening around the world right now.” Said Amin: “Andrew’s script is not only extremely well written and full of great characters but it pulls back the curtain on the topical subject of drones and the lives of the people who operate them.”

Zoe Kravitz Girl Crush: She's like your real BFF... only famous

http://www.sheknows.com/entertainme...tz-shares-details-bloody-injury-divergent-set
With the mega-success of The Hunger Games franchise, it seems certain that other books-turned-films will follow suit, catapulting their stars into the limelight. And the Divergent series, based on the wildly popular young adult book trilogy by Veronica Roth, is shaping up to be the next big adaptation.

Our March Girl Crush, Zoë Kravitz, nabbed the coveted role of Christina in Summit Entertainment's take on the first installment. Yet the down-to-earth actress shrugs off the idea that she could become a household name after the movie's March 21 release.

Kravitz is just "excited to be a part" of the much-anticipated franchise. "I think it's a really awesome story, and I think it's really nice to see something that's made for young adults that is empowering and encouraging and complex," she elaborated.

On tough girl stuff
This isn't Kravitz's first foray as a bada** femme fatale. In 2011, she starred as X-Men: First Class' stripper/flying mutant Angel Salvadore, and she recently wrapped production on Mad Max: Fury Road. When we ask her if she has any cool scars from doing her own stunts, Kravitz at first can only recall "a few cuts and things" from other films she worked on.

Then something dawns on her. "Oh wait! That's a total lie… what am I talking about?!" she said, gesturing to a (nearly imperceptible to us) mark. "I have this giant scar. Can you see it?"

She sets the scene by telling us it was the last day of shooting, and she and co-star Shailene Woodley were eating lunch at Woodley's trailer. "Chicago… what do they call it? The Windy City!" she said, joking about a gust that caused Woodley's trailer door to blow shut.

"I'm sitting there and all of a sudden, I'm like, 'Hey! (makes crashing noise) And the door just slams closed on my face, and I just feel blood start coming down."

After a brief moment of panic on her part, Kravitz let co-star "Theo [James], being like the gentleman that he is" come to her rescue. After making her lie down and put ice on the wound, he broke the silence. "He was like, 'Do you want to see it, or do you not want to see it?'" she said, imitating his voice. "'It's not that bad, but it's kind of bad.'" The whole debacle ended with a trip to the hospital, where Kravitz got eight stitches across her nose.

On industry pals
With such a hunky man of chivalry on set, we wondered, did Kravitz find it hard to concentrate?

"No, no… Theo's like my brother," she stated. "He's very, very funny, which I think is funny that people don't really know because he's so serious in the movie — total heartthrob. But he's just very funny and very kind and very approachable."

James isn't the only other entertainer she admires. Kravitz cites esteemed actresses like Meryl Streep, Helena Bonham Carter and Cate Blanchett as role models.

And, we presume, her very dear friend, Jennifer Lawrence. Since the two are now both starring as ballsy chicks in their respective blockbusters, we wanted to know who would win in real life if Kravitz and Lawrence were to battle.

"Her, absolutely!" Kravitz exclaims. "That woman is strong and tall. Yeah, she would definitely win. I would cheat, though. I would, you know, like, bite or something totally dirty."

On what's in store
When asked if she's an adrenaline junkie, the actress doesn't dispute the idea. "I think we probably all are, you know? I mean, I get scared every time I go on stage; I get scared every time I start a project. It's like… it's vulnerable. You wanna do a good job and you wanna be honest, so I just think that's a good sign when you get nervous before starting any kind of project."

And projects are plentiful for this 25-year-old.

In addition to several films in the works, Kravitz stays busy with her band, Lolawolf, and is optimistic about the idea of touring with them.

So while you might see her on the big screen in Divergent or, if we're lucky, onstage with Lolawolf, there's one place you won't be seeing Kravtiz anytime soon: social media, which she says "freaks me out, man… freaks me out."

And even though she doesn't believe in social media, she does — like the factions in Divergent — have strong beliefs. "I believe in women's rights," she said. "I believe in peace. I believe in avocados. I believe in freedom of speech. I believe in fairies. I believe in a lot of things!"

She also believes in making a name for herself, which she's doing a pretty bang-up job of at the moment. She doesn't even mind the expectations attached to being the daughter of Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet.

"It made me stronger, I think. It made me work harder," she revealed. "But no, I think there's only as much pressure as you allow there to be. I'm very proud to be in that family."

Her father Lenny Kravitz is known for experimenting with the elements of rock, soul, funk and reggae as he created his own distinct sound.

But it looks like Zoe Kravitz is following in her dad's footsteps by experimenting with her own fashion.

The 25-year-old actress rocked a rather daring ensemble on a recent appearance on the show 106 & Park at the BET Studio in New York.
