She has joined the plethora of stars flocking to Art Basel to soak up a little culture.

But Zoe Kravitz made sure to include a little quality self-time on Saturday, gracing Miami's South Beach with her stunning presence for a spot of bikini-clad wandering.

The 25-year-old showed off her slim physique in her tiny swimsuit as she perused the pristine white sands.

‘I think it’s really important to be comfortable in your clothes and, ultimately, your own skin,’ says the actress Zoë Kravitz, who has gamely played dress-up for a special festive Farfetch shoot. ‘There’s nothing less sexy than a girl in a pair of pumps that she can’t walk in.’

So what’s her own sartorial comfort zone? ‘A good white T-shirt. You can dress it up or dress it down. Just a white T-shirt with jeans is such a cool, timeless look. Or you wear it with a black pencil skirt and costume jewellery for the evening, and it’s transformed completely. I have so many – I buy every cool vintage white T-shirt that crosses my path.’

Zoë likes to mix things up, zipping from the retro elegance of her favourite shoot look – high-waisted circle skirt and big earrings (‘It has an old-school, Audrey Hepburn vibe to it’) – to the downtown-cool aesthetic of her friend Alexander Wang (‘His first collection for Balenciaga was so great it actually brought tears to my eyes’).

It’s the same when it comes to her film roles, which veer between action blockbusters (X-Men: First Class) to heartfelt indies (It’s Kind Of A Funny Story). ‘There are characters that I’m nothing like, but there are aspects of my personality that I can explore in every character I play,’ she explains. ‘Even if they’re a really awful person, I can draw on parts of myself I don’t like so that I can try to understand them and give depth to that character. You can find similarities and identify with almost anyone if you try.’

As the daughter of Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet, a career in the performing arts was perhaps inevitable for the 25-year-old: ‘Acting felt the natural choice. As a kid I would put on shows for my family, and had so much fun playing different characters and coming up with stories.’ In 2014 Zoë will appear in some of the year’s most high-profile films, proving that it was a path well taken.

But don’t take our word for it. Here’s what Zoë has to say on the world of film – the ones she loves and those that look set to shoot her star into serious ascent.

The future blockbuster: Divergent

‘The movie takes place in a future where, in order for society to survive, people must join different factions, the social groups that they’re best equipped for. My character, Christina, is originally from the honesty faction, Candor, so she has no filter and says whatever she wants. I say what I think, so I definitely identified with her strength and independence. I really like seeing young, strong women in film. I think it’s really important to show women in this light right now.’

The beloved franchise: Mad Max

‘I actually didn’t think I was going to get the Mad Max role. The audition was really vague and everyone I knew was reading for it – my agent had to talk me into auditioning. I’d heard of the original trilogy, but hadn’t ever seen them. Now I have, and I understand why they’re films that people always reference, because with the landscapes and the costumes they look amazing, ahead of their time. The new film is an extension of that. I go to Burning Man festival every year and there’s always a lot of Mad Max stuff going on but I didn’t really understand it before. So when we started making the film it was nice to make that connection.’

The indie darling: The Road Within

‘It’s an independent film I made this summer with Dev Patel and Robbie Sheehan, a remake of a German film from a few years ago about an anorexic, a kid with Tourette’s and one with OCD who steal a doctor’s car from a clinic and go on a road trip together.’

Favourite films

The Party: ‘Peter Sellers is a genius.’

Midnight Cowboy: ‘Dustin Hoffman is amazing in this, such authenticity and soul. It inspires me to keep working and hopefully one day I can bring that kind of strength to a role.’

Reality Bites: ‘It’s just so enjoyable to watch, with so many classic lines.’

Paris Is Burning: ‘A fascinating documentary.’

Anchorman: ‘This always brings a smile to my face.’

Cinematic wardrobe inspiration

‘Chicago: my favourite era for vintage clothing is definitely the Thirties. The understated glamour is super inspiring and the fringing and beading on all the costumes in this film is awesome. I love the sultry vibe of silk slip dresses worn beneath fur coats – so sexy and casual at the same time. I love things that look worn and faded, items that have a story. I love to find out where amazing old pieces were from and who might have worn them.’

Most loved Christmas films

‘I love watching Christmas films over the holidays. There’s something really comforting about going back to your family favourites each year. Mine are It’s A Wonderful Life, Home Alone, A Christmas Story, Trading Places and the cartoon version of The Grinch.’

"I Was Very on Edge": Zoë Kravitz Explains Why Her New Band Lolawolf Came Together at Just the Right Time
http://www.elle.com/news/culture/zoe-kravitz-lolawolf-interview

Early in 2013, Zoë Kravitz was deeply engrossed in a tough role for the film The Road Within. "I was doing a part where I was playing an anorexic, and I wasn’t really eating or going out, and had no energy…I was very on edge," the actress, muse, and daughter to rock icon Lenny Kravitz and actress Lisa Bonet admits. No stranger to music—she fronted the band Elevator Fight in 2009—Kravitz turned to her other talent for solace from the emotional and physical toll that the film was taking on her. And when Brooklyn-based friends Jimmy Giannopoulos and James Levy (later joined by Disney-alum Raviv Ullman) paid her a visit in LA, they joined in on her hobby.

That little piece of nightly sanity evolved into Lolawolf—named for Kravitz's half-siblings, Lola and Nokoa-Wolf Momoa—and while she swears that she didn't expect these jam sessions to metamorphose into a bona fide act, it's safe to say that, with a self-titled EP set to launch on February 4th and a handful of live performances under their belts (and on the way), success is in the cards for Kravitz and her bandmates. Need further proof? Just listen to any one of Lolawolf's infectious tracks: The low key but equally mesmerizing sound is a welcome departure from the oversaturated, often overly energetic indie-pop market.

And the band is just getting started. With another EP already on the way, Kravitz says her dream scenario would be to play the festival circuit. But in spite of her success in this pursuit, her acting career is not sitting on the backburner: In addition to The Road Within, the sci-fi flick Divergent, which also stars Shailene Woodley and Kate Winslet, will hit theatres on March 21.

In addition to introducing Lolawolf's latest single, "Too Lovely," exclusively to ELLE.com, Kravitz opened up to us about her musical influences, her equal allegiance to both music and acting, and why she prefers NYC over her native LA.

Growing up with a father in music and a mother in acting, did you always know you were interested in both crafts, or that it would go one way or the other?
I never really thought of them as separate things, just as the things that I love to do. I always loved theater; I always loved musicals; I always loved music. It was just a natural progression of things.

Do you prefer one or the other?
I don’t! They’re two completely different parts of my soul, I suppose.

What are some of the band’s musical influences?
I think it’s always changing, and that’s what’s kind of cool. We all have different tastes in music: electronic, dance, punk ****. It lends a lot of colors and possibilities. I love all kinds of stuff. I really love Fiona Apple—she’s always influenced me as a songwriter. So I guess when you put it all together, you get Lolawolf. [laughs]

Does your music have a message? What do you want it to express?
I don’t think we have one message. Every song comes from many different places. Honestly, the whole idea is making art—making music—and putting it out on the line, because we love each other and love music. So I think that’s what people are feeling from it—hopefully!

You’ve spent a lot of time both in LA and New York. How do you think that duality between coasts plays a role in your sound?
The first EP was recorded in Los Angeles, and I think that that came across in the music in a weird way, especially in the song “Drive”—it’s kind of like a bunch of New Yorkers out of their element. [laughs] But we’re a very east coast band in a lot of ways. That’s how we met each other—we’re all friends who were transplanted in this new neighborhood in Brooklyn.

Do you prefer New York over LA?
I do. I love LA—I’m from there and so is my family. But New York…the city just makes me really, really happy and inspired.
