the purpose of purchasing my first bag was different from the purposes with which i'm buying my bags these days. so definitely choice will be different. i think the designs of the bags are more important that the brands they are from.

My first designer bag was a Gucci. I bought it in Paris after careful consideration of all the designer bags in front of me that I can afford. It was used in the fashion show and came out in the magazines so that sealed the deal for me.

My first designer bag was Coach and still buy it once in awhile. It has to catch my eyes and I go the outlets. Right now I'm back into LV and Chanel is starting to catch my eyes.

(Monogram is back, girls, and so is this thread. I'm reviving it because it's a good question. These posters most likely got their first purse during the "It Bag" era and commented before the recession. My gut says that firsts and brand loyalty hasn't changed much... but idk)

My first designer purse was an leather 80s Coach crossbody from a garage sale. I wore it non-stop through middle and high school until the strap fell off and the cobbler put it on backwards. I haven't worn a Coach bag in forever but have almost exclusively carried large wallets and keychain change purses from them. I don't switch SLGs like I do purses (and I'm really hard on the smaller wallet that has like 1 credit card and my nycID), so it's nice having something cute and durable that can be replaced every 2 years or so at a good price.

Coach was my first and I no longer buy them and eventually sold all I had.

Along the way I added Kate Spade and Michael Kors. I no longer buy them either. I sold all the KS. I still have one MK that I’m thinking of selling.

First premier brand was Prada. I still have all but one of these bags and plan to keep them but I no longer buy the brand.

Now I primarily have bought and wear Dior, Chanel and to a lesser extent Gucci. I do have “one off” bags from other premier designers.

Going forward I think I’ll primarily stick with Dior and Gucci. I don’t see me buying a lot more Chanel. I may possibly add in a couple more LV leather bags (not canvas). And I would like to add a Bal. Hermes is somewhat interesting to me but I’m not yet sold as the styles aren’t exactly “me”.

But, while I’m partial to certain brands, I am very open to buying whatever bag I like as long as it has style staying power and relatively good resale value.

My first contemporary bag was Coach, when I had just graduated from high school. I didn't really buy much after that first bag, but I'm drinking the kool-aid hardcore now that the 1941 line is around.

My first premier bag was Balenciaga. I still like it, but I am not seeking to acquire any more, as none of the recent styles do it for me.
