Your Favourite Obscure Brands!

Smythson of Bond Street, based in England. Is that obscure enough? They are an upscale stationery maker and ventured out to bags in recent years. They have amazing sales and I often score great bargains for amazing bags and SLG.

I've been eyeing Smythson for quite some time, and just bought my first Smythson notebook a couple days ago. Your bag looks gorgeous!

My "obscure" brand is Valextra. No logo and most people can't identify it at a glance. I have their bags, wallets, writing folders, etc...

I have a Valextra wallet! I love the quality. It has a really nice smooth leather lining.

My favorite obscure brand is Loro Piana. Quality leather and very durable. I'm not sure how well known they are, but I haven't seen too many posts on TPF about them.

Unearthed on etsy - she only makes accessories (wallets/card cases, bracelets, etc) but I got a stingray on stainless steel wallet case from her a few years ago and it has been my go to ever since.

Small enough to put in my jacket pocket when going out and want to be hands free, otherwise just throw it into my bag with my other stuff. I feel like most wallets age rather badly due to handling, but the stingray + stainless combo looks almost as good as new!

I just love my DKNY bags. I got most of them last year. Such great quality and so many people stop and ask me "where did you get that bag?"

I own bags from both premium designers and smaller less known brands. Mostly I found them during my travels by local designers. I pride on finding these small brands with superb quality and design that aren't known to most people. These are the few that I can think of right now. I know there's plenty more in my closet but I can't think of any right now.

Moni Moni - carried by celebs which you can see from the link. the leather is very soft and durable!

NMBR NINE - designed by a beautiful couple from Amsterdam. I accidentally found this store shopping around the streets in Amsterdam. I bought a large tote made in python and lizard skin for about 700 euros. I thought the price was good for its value.

Hester van Eeghen - also by a designer from Amsterdam. I purchased a clutch/crossbody similarly to the one showed in the link. But instead of sting ray leather, mine is just the regular leather in bright yellow. Price was around 200 euros. Received a lot of compliments from family and friends.

Abaco - purchased one from Paris, France. Again, soft leather and great quality. I've seen them sold at Century 21.

I ADORE this thread! It is so satisfying to find something impeccably made that suits me perfectly, and that the rest of the world doesn't carry. My contribution is Mark Cross--I can't tell you how much I loved carrying this bag this summer--
http://www.lyst.com/bags/mark-cross-mini-madison-satchel-orange/. I replaced my Balenciaga Town with it--a fabulous trade for me.

The backstory (and where to find them)--

I don't know all the brands you mention but I own an Abaco bag.
Made in France, wonderful leather. Beautiful designs too!:smile1:

So glad to see love for Smythson! Such great quality, I love their notebooks and leather accessories.

I love Deadly Ponies, a brand from New Zealand which uses incredibly soft deer skin leather. All handmade and made in New Zealand from New Zealand deerskin. I have a few bags by them, I keep going back to that irresistible leather.

Ghurka... I just bought the pencil case No. 207 (chestnut) and the slim card case No. 204 (briton red), both currently on sale. They are also an American-made company out of Connecticut, even better.

I have a Loro Piana scarf/shawl that was handed down to me. I think the quality is superb. Now that LVMH has purchased a majority of the company, I hope the quality of their products doesn't suffer.

Two words: Deadly Ponies. Here's my Mr Fill N Zip Twist in Ink (possibly my no. 1 bag and yes, I want another...) and a stock shot of the family of Mr Fill N Zips:

I would also love to try a Horse+Nail bag! They are so gorgeous and edgy: http://joonbug.com/national/glamdam...ooler-Handbag-Line-than-HorseNail/xE6psczRAMF
Wow! (Deadly Ponies) - Now that's a satchel I want to try! The leather looks scrumptious! I love all the zipper compartments and the handle to wear on the shoulder. Looks like a bag that was thought out! Thanks for sharing!
