A well known brand here in Australia but probably not so well known overseas is Mimco. I own two bags (Turnlock in patent leather beige & Molten Hobo in leather faded turquoise) & 3 purses of theirs. I love the quality & iconic styles. Their signature bag is the Button bag... <3
Check them out here:

They also do shoes, jewellery & other accessories.

Puntotres (from Spain). I only have two, so I can only judge by them. But the leather on these two is unbelievably soft, beautifully and evenly colored, and puddles like nothing I've ever seen before. Sturdy hardware too, and leather strips 'bolted' into the zipper pull.

First and second pic is daughter actually holding them up for me.

Third pic is what happens if it's empty and you let go of the handle. It's hard to tell from the angle, but the top 3/4 literally flopped completely over while the base (which has an additional layer of stiffer, dark brown leather) stayed completely in place. .... (And this one is the most accurate to color.)

Fourth pic is with my belongings inside, then puddling down atop them.

The leather is literally like butter (and it's actually not that overly thin). And they even have those nice strips of padding stitched into the shoulder straps. I found these both a few years ago at TJMaxx.

I got a Tuscany Leather duffel for christmas (from myself ; ) and I am so happy with it! Thick leather, smells amazing, solid hardware, great lining, and it so sooo pretty. Tuscany Leather bags are made in italy and vegetable tanned, so I expect my bag to age gracefully.

I also have a fun Sonia Rykiel, not exactly obscure, but doesn´t get talked about too much.

This is something not seen too often in the states and that’s Spain’s Loewe collection. They tend to be more conservative and stand with more traditional styling. Actually if it wasn’t for their embossed logo, it would difficult to distinquish it from a Hermes. Their totes seem like a carbon copy of the Birkin and Kelly.

I have a Loewe hobo and the leather is TDF! Super soft and squishy.

Henri Bendel has gorgeous bags. They are similar in quality to many of the designer bags that cost 10x more. The brand goes way back and the lambskin leather feels equal in quality to my Chanel, which is sort of shocking. I was looking at some of their new bags tonight and really impressed with the designs and quality. HB makes styles in Saffiano leather, canvas, sateen, lambskin-I'm not sure why they don't advertise or treat the smaller stores with the same attention as the flagship NY store which is amazing. And their customer service is good too.

Gerard Darel is wonderful. I bought this bag last year while in Paris for about $7-$800 US and it is worth every penny.

Whenever we travel outside of the US I try to buy a handbag from a local designer and it's sure fun looking. :p
