This is my engagement ring - 2ct fancy yellow cushion cut on a pave of round brilliant fancy yellow diamonds and my matching eternity band. I love it so much - coloured diamonds are so unique and I receive a lot of compliments. We had it commissioned bespoke so I could choose the diamonds and all the details - I’m fussy so couldn’t leave it all to DH haha

OMG I was just thinking about if a ring with paved yellow diamonds is viable and here you are!!! Of course we need to look into all the details ourselves , I feel the same way! Your set is so refreshing in color! Do you mind sharing a bit about how you chose the color of your stone?

Of course!

I viewed lots of different main stones including in different shapes as was not sure initially what shape I wanted to go for. It was really between cushion and oval but it was really difficult to find any ovals which didn't have the bow tie which I felt massively detracted from the beautiful colour of the stones. Most of the diamonds were in fancy shapes.

I knew I didn't want fancy vivid as although I looooove yellow diamonds (obviously!!) given I was going to be wearing the set every day I wanted something a bit lighter and more low key. When I looked at the diamonds I preferred this fancy yellow over some of the fancy intense yellows I'd seen - and the fire in this particular stone was just crazy beautiful!!! I think as others have said the cut and clarity are particularly important to give off that fire.

Mine is quite deep and although I'd read that the depth can limit the sparkle and of course limits the face up size, I found the depth just enhanced the fire. I love when I stare at my ring and you just can't see the bottom of the stone - it just looks like the yellow fire goes on forever!

I knew I didn't want a halo but my jeweller showed me some examples of previous designs she had made and one of them had a yellow diamond with a yellow diamond halo and I just loved it! So there came the inspiration for the yellow diamond pave on the band!

I can't encourage you enough to go for a yellow diamond!! When the sun shines on it, there really is nothing like it!

Thank you so much for the information!! I like how you have your preference and narrow down from there, trying to do the same here. I'd want to wear the ring everyday as well and you gave me something to think about! And I actually really like the proportion of the ring compared to your finger, enough of a statement and enough for daily wear at the same time.

I was not particularly into jewelry before, so I had almost zero knowledge about diamonds. But I always knew I wanted a yellow diamond ring as yellow is my favorite color. Now I'm trying to gather information everywhere to decide on the details and when it comes to yellow diamonds there's very limited resources to look into on the internet. Thanks to you and others here I'm getting exposed to new things all the time :heart:.

Congratulations on such a beautiful ring!!!

In case anyone is interested to see these from Tiffany that I tried on earlier, please feel free to let me know your opinions!

The ring is a fancy intense 1.77ct and the pendent is a fancy vivid 1.34ct. The sa helped me couldn't find any fancy vivid rings to bring in so she ordered in a pendent and said we could always reset into a ring. I tend to stick with Tiffany for sentiment but I'm not eliminating other brands/jewellers if I see something I really really like.

I don't know why but the fancy intense looked more yellow and I was not expecting that. Aren't fancy vivid supposed to be more yellow and vivid as the name suggests? Or maybe color is not the only deciding factor here? Any thoughts?

Also I felt both diamonds are a bit big for me for day to day wear. I love the idea and the aesthetic of larger diamonds (given budget allows) but on me I feel quite uncomfortable with how tall the diamonds sit on my finger. In comparison, the other rings I am wearing are rings that I wear 24/7. I don't know if anyone else had the same issue and did you go with a smaller stone or just got used to it?

Both are beautiful but the fancy intense is nothing short of amazing!!!! Diamond shrinkage is so real I was the exact same as you wanting something for daily wear and I’m a teeeeency bit regretting not going bigger. My ring is set quite high so my band can sit flush and not going to lie it is a bit annoying at times but you definitely get used to it

Haha great to know I'm not alone!! You don't need to go bigger I love how your ring looks on you! Do you wear it everyday now? I was actually asking for a more square one like yours. I love the fancy intense color but not so much how rectangular it looked.

Love the yellow diamonds you got to see in person.

Very nice snap shots, did you take them with your phone?

Yes, Vivid suppose to be more yellow than intense, that’s why vivid cost more.

Intense and vivid are called canary diamonds. I also learned the best cut is radiant for a yellow diamond. Radiants sparkle the most. And round sparkles the most on colorless diamonds.

This is how I understand it from MY research, there are ten intensity shades 1-10 of each shade of yellow.

Example: maybe the vivid is on the low side 1-3 of it’s vibrant scale and the intense is on the higher side of its vibrant scale 8-10. That would make an intense yellow more prettier than a vivid. But the vivid would still cost you more. I feel if that’s the case if a person prefers to spend less but still have a stunning vibrant ring look for 8-10 intense diamond, it can save you a lot.

Also could be ... different countries mines have different looking shades.

I have been learning about colorless and colored diamonds for six months non stop. It’s so fun learning as much as one can find out there.

I agree a ring has to feel comfortable wearing it 24/7, unless someone prefers a cocktail ring.

Keep us posted on your search!

edit:
I also read that the ‘sweet spot‘ size in a diamond solitare size is 1.20 carats.

Thank you! You are so kind! I know what you mean about the rectangle shape as I wasn’t sure about that when I was choosing mine but I really have grown to love the beauty of radiant cuts and elongated cushions - it just so happened the more square traditional cushion was right for me at the time!

I wear mine every day. I do have to be careful but if I’m honest the only real drama which I find particularly irritating is I really struggle with gloves. Even if I can find gloves which will fit over my rings I get a bit worried about forcing them in the glove so I don’t really wear gloves anymore. But other than that I have found it quite easy to get used to after wearing it for a prolonged period of time!

And it has stopped me splurging on a pair of Kelly gloves so my bank account is happy for that!!
